Hoping to see someone huck themselves off a cliff and pull a double backflip superman barspin while blindfolded?? Well, sorry to say, that ain't happening here!
Chances are, you're just an average person, like me, who loves riding their bike and is passionate about the sport. Perhaps you're working long hours, or a parent with young kids, or just starting out and not sure where to ride. Just like me.
I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and only started mountain biking in Feb 2016 but I'm hooked. All the videos I watched were of pros riding the gnarliest tracks or doing massive road gaps and I just wanted to find local trails where I wouldn't kill myself. And thats what this channel is about - good fun trails for average mountain bikers.
I hope to show you the awesome scenery and trails that New Zealand has to offer, while pushing my limits, learning more and having a laugh along the way.
Maybe I'll try a road gap one day - make sure you subscribe to see if I survive!

Would you recommend this guard as a means of injury prevention?
@TheAverageMTBGuy
@TheAverageMTBGuy Месяц назад
No, only for protection of an already-injured wrist. It restricts movement so is not ideal. Best thing thing to do is stay fit and flexible to help reduce injuries.

Do these Wolf tooth chainrings require the special 10mm bolts from wolf tooth? Looks like the chainring has threads on it which is not like most.
@TheAverageMTBGuy
@TheAverageMTBGuy Год назад
It's been a few years since I did this but if I recall the chanting doesn't have threaded hole, its the crank spider that has threads to take the bolts. And I just reused the bolts that were with the original chainring. Hope that helps.

Cut a piece of inner tube or other rubber to protect the bike parts. And my bearings have a very thin outer race so you can't press them in using a bevelled socket.

Bro I love your bike, I ride the same model of trance except it has a few modifications such as a new Kashima coated Fox factory 34 shock and carbon handlebars with Deity grips. I love the thing and I take it out in the redwoods a lot! Taniwha, double down and Boulderdash are the trails I ride often and the trance handles great down all of them! Billy T is also a real fun track but I don't ride it heaps because of the climb it takes to get there if you aren't catching a shuttle.

I have a severed SL ligament in my right wrist. Looking at your review it gives me hope I will bike again. I was looking at the Modius X8 but that is very pricey. I will try this first. Thank you. Much appreciated. Stay safe. F

Nice video. What is the difference in a downhill bike vs a regular full suspension mtb?
@TheAverageMTBGuy
@TheAverageMTBGuy 2 года назад
A downhill bike has more suspension travel - around 180-200mm whereas a trail bike has around 140-150 and an enduro bike 150-170. A double-crown fork for extra strength and bigger brakes too. And the cassette is usually 7-speed with smaller cogs to get maximum speed going down - unless every day is a leg day at the gym they’re not the easiest to pedal uphill!
@marshallhughes4514
@marshallhughes4514 2 года назад
@@TheAverageMTBGuy cool. Thanks for the info. So those double crown forked bikes I see in videos looking like motorcycles with pedals are downhill bikes? Good to know.

@TheAverageMTBGuy 2 года назад
Hi Michael - I ain’t dead! I had a very busy 2021 renovating the family home (plus lockdowns!) and didn’t ride at all. I also took a big disliking to social media so took a break from that too. Not sure whether I’ll get back into making videos as I’ve just started a new hobby. Thanks for your concern though and hope you and your family are keeping well. Cheers, Adrian

How does it climb compared to your old trance?
@TheAverageMTBGuy
@TheAverageMTBGuy 2 года назад
Surprisingly well. There’s a little bit of pedal bob as there’s no full lockout on the shock but it’s not really an issue I reckon. The key is the steeper seat angle than the 27.5 reign which makes it more comfortable and efficient on the uphills.

The crank arm with arrow going clockwise My shimano crank I actually fit it and torqued and now saw the crank arm wording on opposite of arm. Since the holes fit perfectly u think for shimano it's ok to leave it. Or best to install chainring with the crank arm and arrow directly behind the crank arm? What u think

It's just annoying to listen to someone constantly repeat over and over how they don't know what they are doing, and disclaimer this and look away now and the list goes on and on. Either make a video or leave it, it's as simple as that(there has to be a goal to it). I would never assume you are complete shit at this if you just made a video without all the excuses, because you have managed to achieve the goal which you most likely knew well in advance. I'm just weirded out by all the nonsense in the beginning because it should never be there at all...

Fantastic review. Would you feel comfortable riding an amateur cross country race on this one weekend and an enduro the next weekend?
@TheAverageMTBGuy
@TheAverageMTBGuy 3 года назад
I don’t know whether I’d feel comfortable racing full stop at the moment!! The old body has seized up over lockdown 🤣 I guess it all depends on the rider and whether you’re fine with doing that on one bike. Of course an XC bike will be lighter and quicker but are you going out there for fun or to qualify for the next Olympics? And it would handle an enduro fine.
