My name is Karl Brobakk and I use this RU-vid channel to share my travel videos.

I am all about the outdoors and make a lot of hiking videos, but you will also find some action packed activities on my channel.

I live in Oslo, but spend some of my time working as a hiking guide in the Norwegian mountains, as well as leading Northern light trips. And in between spending time in Oslo or leading trips, I travel quite a bit.

If you would like to contact me for business purposes, you can reach me at us_kalle@yahoo.com.

Glad you liked the video! It was possible to buy beer on the boat, maybe some wine as well. I think it was about 3-5 usd for a small can of beer. 100 ft of 6 ft wide seine is a lot for one man to move by himself. you have to use poles, driven into the mud, to help you move such a seine. What you do is attach each end of the seine to the outside corners of each of the 2 weirs. which are set say, 60 ft apart. then you move the center of the seine towards the shore. after you get to the shore, you keep moving further up the bank and moving more of the seine onto the land. eventually, the fish will all be forced into the weirs.
@user-ci2mn1oy3w
@user-ci2mn1oy3w 6 месяцев назад
there's 900 ft of rope in the hammock, 3 strands in the rope, 44 threads in each strand. Cotton gets STRONGER when it's wet, so 6 threads makes a string that's strong enough for netting. You wont be lifting huge catches of fish out of the water. all your netting has to do is be a seine, pushing fish ahead of it, or a weir, trapping fish in a small area. You can make 1200 sq ft of 2" mesh out of the hammock, 6 threads to the string, and still have plenty of rope and strands for camp needs. If you put 5 threads to the string, it would let you make 9 strings, not just 7. so 18% more netting. 1400 sq ft of such netting. can be had and it would be strong enough
@user-ci2mn1oy3w
@user-ci2mn1oy3w 6 месяцев назад
you see idiots trying to make netting as they STAND in front of a line stretched between trees. No man, you create a hoop out of a bent and lashed green stick and SIT DOWN. You''re going to be making netting for half of each day, for 2 weeks. the other half of the day,you'll be unraveling the two person cotton rope hammock, unraveling the rope, unraveling the strands, and spinning 6 of the 44 cotton threads into string, then spooling tbat string onto sticks, so it's ready to make netting. There's more work in getting the string than in making the netting.

minnows will detect the rotting fish guts inside of the bait bags of the chumliner and hang around the little holes you've poked in those bags. The bigger fish will come for the minnows. Eventually, LOTS of fish will be in the sweep area of your seine. When you seine such a heavily-baited area, thousands of cubic feet of water, 2-3x per day, you're going to be catching 20+ lbs of fish per day, maybe even 100+ lbs of fish per day This lets you bait in a bear, which is fat for hibernation. Make a stake and log bait box that only a bear can access and set it 10m from your tree blind., That bear's fat will mean that you gain BACK any weight that you've lost on your fish and cambium diet. Bears can detect the stench of a 50 lb pile of rotting fish heads and guts from many miles away and they DARE NOT just ignore such a food source when they need to prep for hibernation. So you'll get multiple shots at bears. if it was for-real, you''d need 400+ lbs of fish and 2-3 bears to get you thru the winter.
@user-ci2mn1oy3w
@user-ci2mn1oy3w 6 месяцев назад
once you have the raft, you can make a 400m long 'chumline', with a tarp and tape bait-bag tied to a wooden float every 20m. This lets you bring a lot of fish into the area that you will seine. Pulling a weighted rope thru the area you INTEND to seine will locate the various "snags' that will catch your net. If you can' remove those snags, set your weirs someplace else, or mark the snags with a tall pole and strategist how to work around each one. You can make your seine divisible at such points, letting you divide the net there, move those ends of your seine around the snag and then re-connect the seine-ends., without losing many fish.during your "sweep". Be sure to butcher your fish IN the weirs, so that the resulting blood and guts baits the weirs Some of the guts and heats can be tied into bags, which are tied to some of the weir-posts, so that the baiting does not just dissapate into the water.
@user-ci2mn1oy3w
@user-ci2mn1oy3w 6 месяцев назад
You can make the pontoon outrigger raft in one day, using the 3 pairs of coveralls and the backpack as pontoons. Stuff them with dry debris, sew and tape the seams and each one will float a big man. the 8 small logs that make up the FRAME of the raft total 80 lbs or less. It wont matter if the logs float or not, you see. when you tie up the raft at the end of the day, remove the pontoons and secure them vs flooding and wind storms. They are irreplaceable.
@user-ci2mn1oy3w
@user-ci2mn1oy3w 6 месяцев назад
If you take the gear that's always been taken, you'll be stuck with being unable to do more than has always been done, which has always FAILED (miserably) other than when pure LUCK got a couple of them a big animal. Those two had no other game plan. If there had been no big animals in their area, they'd just be two more losers whose name you could not remember. Those lakes are PROVEN to be full of big fish. Efficent netfishing will ALWAYS outperform hook and line fishing, especially when it's cold and especially when you cant use organic bait OR barbed hooks.. No, you do NOT have to wait until you finish making all of the netting before it can help you feed yourself. Each days netting can become a baited net-weir, until you have enough more netting made to assemble some of the weirs into a seine and use the seine to force fish from 4-5 ft deep water into the 18" deep water where the weirs are set.
