I'm seeing several hundred reasons why finding a nice 991 with a blown engine and installing an LS3 is the best idea ever - not trying to insult the purists - just sayin'
@@ManinaGarage Your video series inspired me [or cursed...we shall see ;)] to purchase a 1999 Carrera C2 with >160K miles on it! Thanks. My specific question is if you ever heard of the Ferrostan piston coating being more protective than the Ferroprint piston coating in regards to bore scoring? I'm a noob and know next to nothing but found this listed on another RU-vid video and it piqued my interest. I hope you are past your health issues!
@@teddydanielsHello Teddy, your 1999 is less likely to bore score than most, good choice 👍 This video talks about the piston coatings. WHAT IS BORE SCORING? PORSCHE 996 & 997 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QJ_6V0ihrks.html Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
i did notice that you went around some of the outside of the bolt holes... aren't you supposed to go inside of the bolt holes ? if you go around the outside of the bolt holes there is nothing stopping the oil traveling between the flanges up the bolt holes through the thread and out from underneath the bolt, as there is no sealant to stop it. ..just wondering
@@oilcoolman This was a while ago for me, I don’t remember the details. One thing I do remember is the advice from Lee Jenkins at Hartech, he recommended putting sealant into the bolt holes to prevent the kind of leaking you are talking about. It may not be obvious in the video footage but I did do that in most cases. Thank you for watching & commenting!🤘😎
Appreciate the video! Bought a used 991.1 C2 (identical engine as here) a little over a year ago. Bought it with 72k miles (115k km) and I've driven it a LOT since then, so I'm just over 90k miles ( 145k km). Suspect I'm passed the window of concern. If it was going to fail, it likely would have by now. That said, if this ever happened, I suspect I'd just have a shop bore and re-sleave. Getting a used engine is rolling the dice again, but least expensive. Getting a new engine from Porsche is assured, but most expensive. In both of those cases, you're getting another 3.4L engine. Refurbishing the damaged engine by boring & re-sleaving is middle cost, but you're basically getting a new engine AND getting 4.0 GT3 engine. A bit more expensive than eBay, but you're getting a huge upgrade that's essentially a new engine. Hoping I won't ever have to deal with this, or at least not for a long time, but that's how I'd probably handle it.
I just purchased (Sept 2024) a brown 1978 MGB that looks just like that. Got mine from the original family with 16,500 original miles. The engine compartment looks like it has zero miles on it. So fun to drive.
I have a 79 MGB fortunately I live in the state where I could legally remove the air pump and replace the Stromberg carburetor with a Weber. Now I have 90hp like the old ones.
I'm restoring an 80! Completely redo'ing the engine with higher compression pistons, older version head with larger intake valves and electronic ignition. It won't be a world-beater but should have a little more oomph for the high and hot elevation where I live. The smog crap was ripped out and trashed a few weeks ago. Very satisfying.
Never keep it on drive, it’ll end up switching gears at the wrong time causing you to line lock and crash into something. Start on 1st gear then go to 2nd.
Bore score the Porsche lottery where you buy one and keep it as long as you dare and sell it to the next one that do the same, the lucky winner get to pay 6000 to 30.000 £$€ for engine repair ;) And still I want to buy one...
Since the "rubber" bumper version was the first I knew, I have always liked it, and I like the graphic, clean, and updated look of it. I also like the late-70s luggage rack like on this car the best of all of them. My MGB was a 1969 and I wear 12W shoes and am 6' 1/2" tall and had no issues at all with feeling crowded with the pedals -- not in the 1969 I owned or late-70s models like this that I drove. The "bathtub" driving position was also excellent and comfortable. I followed it up with a Triumph TR8 and an Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, and all three of these cars were roomy enough for me (unlike a Mercedes 450/380/560 SL or an MG Midget or Jaguar E-Type where the windshield was in my face or across my eyeline). The MGB was my first love and I still have brochures from 19877 forward. To each his own on the bumpers, original or "rubber." The side markers never looked ugly to me either. The parts I really find ugly (to me) are the original taillights rather than the flattened off style on this later car.
Is that a permanent solution or has it a life span,iv heard not to touch the ims unless having a rebuild and if im not mistaken if something to do with the timing isnt correct it causes catastrophic damage and cant be done properly with just gearbox out?
This series is about education and not being intimidated by the endless stream of bullshit online. This engine has over 20k miles on it since the rebuild, no leaks, no smoke no faults. This stuff is NOT rocket science, most people can pull it off just fine. Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
Great video....thanks! This is the exactly problem I just started having on my 2001 boxster base. At idle it's rough and smooth throughout the rev range. It's throwing code P1325 which from researching is directing me to the vario cam solenoid bank 2
@@ShamileII I’m glad it helped you 🙌 Check out Porsche Engine Gurus on Facebook, they have started dismantling the solenoid to replace the O-rings, they have photos on their facebook m.facebook.com/groups/591859944843493/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF Thank you for watching! 🙌😎
About ten times longer than it would have if I did not make videos about it. You can look at the dates on the video series if you like. Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
Very informative video! A tip, don’t bank anything with a hard steel hammer. It don’t know if the dowel is steel or aluminum but you risk deforming it. Get a plastic installation hammer.
There is a Card that pops up in the top right at 8 seconds in + there is a link to the english version in the description. There are Japanese versions coming, prepare to laugh your ass off. 🤘😎
