How did you end up with the wrong size? Did you use any of their suggestions?
@hantswalker
@hantswalker Месяц назад
I did send to Nicks a photo of my foot on their sizing print out. I'm in UK and we have different printers and paper sizes. My foot is longer than the paper size so it printed over two sheets. I didn't trust multiple points of error so went with my usual boot size rather than their advice so my own fault.

Quite right. Did you see my video on Bordon? I've taken to sending photos of my foot on a metal ruler. Even so, had I followed the advice, the boots would have been too small. I contacted Caswell - got a very detailed reply but I'm still nervous about ordering.

I'm certainly a fan of GS footwear, mostly veg tan leathers. I consider boots such as the Diesel and Garrison as business casual or weekend out on the town boot. It's certainly not for outdoor play or working on a construction site type of footwear.

With all my boots that have all eyelets and no speed hooks I always leave the top two to three eyelets unlaced to put them on then lace them up, SPEED hooks are called speed hooks for a reason. Great that break in was relatively easy. This is a dressy business casual boot compared to the Diesel IMO. As per your friend’s damage to his pair that is just bad luck, sh*t happens. Veg Tan is always more prone to scuffs scrapes etc, takes longer to produce and is always the more expensive option compared to chrome or combinatiation tanned leathers. Better luck with your next purchase, beautiful pair of boots, good review on your experience with them.👍
@ryanpiyo98
@ryanpiyo98 3 месяца назад
The damage has no effect on the boot itself. Bar the suedes or waxed flesh, any leather receiving that level of damage will scar in similar fashion. Badalassi Carlo already is one of the better quality veg tan boot leathers and favourites of many bespoke bootmakers. And for sizing, possibly those with a higher instep or possibly size 10 and above will find it difficult to slip on the boots. If you're 9 and under, you should be fine.

After one year of use of use on paved and unpaved trails, I've found the Targhee 111's pretty darn good. They are waterproof, with good toe protection and plenty of room for my toes in the toe box. I wear either cotton everyday socks or medium wight wool socks. Quite happy with the purchase and the price which sees to have climbed quite a bit since.

Fantastic question. I'm going to say it does have a true toe cap rather than a skived down single skin. I'm thinking this because of something I may have read a while ago but also because of the price and the Truman approach to quality. It does have a structured toe which will keep its shape. I don’t believe it is a true toe cap. I think it was bedo leather works video doing a repair to a Truman boot and if I remember correctly it was two skived pieces. That’s pretty normal for this style of boot. I’m pretty sure viberg and grant stone are the same.

I also bought a pair of those, in burgundy kudu, missed the fit by a bit too wide (10.5E) but other than that they feel great, agree with you about the laces, just adding that the sole is stiffer than the original vibram or they dainite version, depending on the use that may take a bit of comfort away. Keep us updated on how it ages. cheers!!

The Tukano is a great boot. In my size, 13EE it's close to the same size Truman on a 79 last or 12EEE for Grant Stone. Some may not like the rolling action but I do. Quality doesn't quite match those brands though but I'm being very critical here. Acid test is would I buy again - yes definitely.

Thank-you for posting this video! 1. What size are your Grant Stone Brass boots, in this video? 2. Are the two boots, in this video, the same size? 3. How does the boot volume of the Brass boots compare to the volume in the Tukano boots? The Brass boots look more roomy, than the Tukano's, but I'm not sure. 4. After owning your pair of Tukano's, for a about a month and a half, would you recommend them to someone else? Thanks in advance!
@hantswalker
@hantswalker 7 месяцев назад
Great questions. GS don't do EE or half sizes this large so the Brass are 13EEE on the roomy Floyd last. They are a bit too long for me but the volume is way too much. I asked GS about this and I thought they would say 13E. No... 12EEE for Floyd or Leo. Nervously I ordered the new Garrison on the Leo in a 12EEE and the fit is identical to the Tukano 13EE. Perfect for me. I know I'm not the only person struggling with GS sizing so it's worth asking them for advice.

I just received these and they are much darker than I expected. Did yours lighten up over time? I suspect mine are so dark because they might be over conditioned out of the box. I will wear mine daily, but maybe wait at least 6 months before my first condition. I don’t expect not to condition these, no matter what they say. It’s leather and will eventually need it. There are conditioners that don’t darken much if any, like Venetian Leather Balm.

James, it's a continuous process : condition - wear - lighten and scuff - condition again. Just don't overdo it and stick to lighter less intense conditioners like Bik4.

I tried the III at REI and they felt great but I decided to wait for a sale. Got home and found a big online reseller who had them for over 40%off so I bought and quickly returned them. Not even the same boot. The ones at REI were made in Thailand and fit perfect. The ones I got online were made in India. While they looked the same they were one of the worst fitting boots I ever tried. To top it off when looking at the sole from the heal to the toe you could see a noticable concave in the tread. When I get the ones at REI Ill double cjeck and amend this but Im guessing they wont look warped.
