I've directed two feature films, YOU SHOULD MEET MY SON! and REAL HEROES. I'm about to start crowdfunding my third, VAMPIRE STRIPPERS MUST DIE!, a comedy about male strippers on tour in Eastern Europe who are forced to battle the undead.
Imagine a world where eating tomato is forbidden. There is no harm in eating one, there is no clear advantage in never eating one, and yet people that like tomato are seen as a freak. They never chose to like tomato. They don't even know WHY they like tomatoes. It doesn't change anything in their life and they eat other type of food just fine. All they know is that they've eaten a tomato once and they like the feeling it gives them. Aside from liking tomatoes, nothing else separates them from the rest of human beings. Hell, if they had spent their whole life never eating tomato or telling anyone they like tomatoes, no one would even be able to tell that they do, in fact, like eating tomatoes.

I could tell instantly this was way old! The main character would have had Botox, the camera quality would have been much higher resolution, and “the internet” wouldn’t be anywhere near foreign to 40-50 years old women! 😅
Love the pride infused from another's perspective in the title "You should meet my son!". Unique and accurate because its about the mom's pride and love too.
This movie was integral to my upbringing as a gay teen. Loved the film. I was just coming out of middle school into high school when it was released, my mom even enjoyed it too!
I came out to my family 3 times. The last time was around 1987 when the theme of NYC Pride was “Out, Loud and Proud”…I called her down in Florida after the Gay Pride March (it wasn’t a Parade yet, youngsters!) and I asked if she saw the news and the gay people. Naturally she went on and on about it blah blah blah…finally I said “did you see the clip about NYC?” And she said “yes” and I told her “I WAS IN IT!!!” She swore me to silence then told everyone but my father, just as I had planned! This movie would actually be really good if they thought to present both sides of the story equally. They almost had it. The line should have been "marriage isn't about someone you love. It's about creating a family" That is a far more intriguing counterpoint than the mom just being a biggot.
it took my mom more than 40 years after finding out about me for her to come to terms with it and accept that about me . Daddy figured it out when i was 4 year old and he told Everybody except me . The only worry he had was that he wanted to make sure i knew how to defend myself so he taught me about guns ,had me taking self defense classes.
