I agree with everything up until the very end, especially about everyone being harder to kill. I genuinely feel like the game is more enjoyable when the time to kill is a bit longer than just walking from spawn to point. Kills should be a cascade of decisions or mistakes coming together, so that strategy can actually have an impact on the game. Kills shouldn't be just about having one lucky or unlucky moment. Edit: also disagree that people don't know how to play support. Weird take lol

I disagree about Rammatra. He's actually decent to play with when you specifically see him as a tempo tank with two distinct modes, defence and offence. Deciding which tempo to use is the difference between a good and bad Ram and often decides whether you win or lose the team fight

problem is that pro players or high skilled players 2% of the game think these changes will make better to the average player (bronze-silver-gold-plat) but it will make it worse, because the average player has other issues, the solution is to separate master's and g'ms from the rest of the game, so they have their own patch so they can stop crying. Blizzard should focus on the majority of the game not a 1%. Double shield was a pain in the ass even at high elo, open queue was cancer even at high elo, so alot of bullshit this guy is spreading in this video. the company should focus on the majority because the majority pay the bills, for me at the moment 1tank is bad, and counterwatch is bad make the game sucks some heroes are bad but i think the main thing is counterwatch and 5v5

CH 4193 Mercy/Flex Support Player here, I actually used to play with Tensa on Xbox (against, not with) while on Eternity esports. We were a small organization that competed in maybe 15 or so small regional tournaments, all of which were casted, but the Xbox scene was too small. Tensa and his team, MnKers, who consisted of players like Gator and Coluge as well, all swapped to PC and began to capitalize on this new meta, going straight to contenders. They did what we couldn’t. I think it was the fact they had been using the XIM, hence the name MnKers, though Tensa has always been known for his use of hybrid gameplay - controller for cooldown, mouse to aim. Anyway I just love hearing about this time of my life. Taking maps off these guys was a ridiculously hard feat, but we did it on occasion. Tensa, Gator, Coluge and others were jerks a lot of the time, almost like rage filled babies, but all would eventually temper down in adulthood a fair bit, especially Coluge. Long story short - the GOATs meta actually began on Xbox, also to be used as a way for them to make up for the difference in mechanics between XIM and PC, as tanks tended to be more forgiving.

I think this is why I enjoyed playing Gundam Evolution way more than Overwatch, for as short of a lifespan as that game had. Only one support character with very limited healing, no deployable barriers to shoot down, and universal movement options like boosting and quick dodging but the more agile characters/flankers get more boost meter compared to the big ones. If only it wasn't criminally mismanaged.

I started playing OW in 2016 and stopped around late 2017. Out of curiosity last week, I gave OW2 a try and the biggest turn off for me was the change to 5v5. Every match feels awkward and desolate. I feel like I'm always waiting for the last two people to connect but they never show up.

Speaking for the 95% of players here who dont have 8k hours into the game, don't care for esports, weren't affected by goats. Role queue needed to happen. It forced players to pick and stay on a role that was needed. Nearly every game back in the day resulted in people legit fighting about swapping, which usually was refused. On top of that, it stopped another lower elo problem that was ruining the game and that was having smurf accounts for single heros/roles and refusing to switch. Players with their tank only, widow only smurf accounts who would never pick anything else. Sorry but you need to understand that many of your arguments are coming from an elitists sweat level where the majority of the community is no where near.

People were telling me to quit playing Moira because she's underpowered compared to other supports because she has no cleanse or anything like that. But as a Moira main I feel overpowered. I do tons of healing to the whole team easily while destroying backlines, all that while not using any aim. So if Moira is underpowered, well than the better supports must be hella overpowered.

I swear it WAS that common to have 5 dps 1 support in the lower ranks at least. It's easy for higher ranked players to say that never happened because in their games people were more flexible, they did what they had to. In platinum and below people would unironically rather lose than play support or tank. This was also the sort of environment that made one tricks insufferable to deal with because they were so unyielding in the demands placed on to the team by their existence. One tricks are pretty frustrating today but having a more balanced team as a base makes it more manageable, it's much better than the day and age where someone could be a dedicated torbjorn one trick and lock it when 5 other people wanted to play damage or would just flat out instantly leave the game if someone else picked torb and refused to switch off because having only one character on their career profile meant that much to them. Role que was an over all major improvement to lower ranks and while that isn't exactly smth people with 5 hour que times for dps in their top 1% of the ranked community that was the reality of what the vast majority of the player base were dealing with.

When I clicked on this video I thought I was going to disagree. I don't. Overwatch has a serious legacy problem of switching the design philosophy of the game. Support wasn't supposed to just mean healing. That's why Symmetra was there. They needed to double down on more supports that weren't focused on healing. Things like Immortality field wouldn't be so bad on a support that wasn't also a healer. Roles should be playstyles. Support is about utility, Tank about defence and space making, dps about damage. IMO there should be less healing and more utility on support, less health on tanks, bring all characters down to similar amounts of health, no role queue and make each just a playstyle preference. (the the role preference queue is a good idea I fully support). I've filled in a fair few surveys about the game and then seen the report on the feedback and often what they say has nothing to do with the questions asked. I am of the opinion Blizzard collects a lot of data but very bad at interpreting it and is looking for things that reinforce senior management decisions rather than genuine feedback. I'm not a pro player, I play for fun. I was very tired of the game by the end of OW1 and was having more fun in OW2 but it got stale. Mirrorwatch was the most fun I've had in ages. A big part of it was things like double tank just making everything unkillable, but as I've said, I actually think the answer to this is to reduce tank hp down to levels similar to dps. (The ones that don't have very defensive abilities like Roadhog and Mauga need a bit more than a DPS and Doomfist should go back to dps) I think there's so little identity in the game now. The gameplay is now very fast, it's like they want it to be Valorant, but that's not what the game was, that's not how most of the characters were designed. I like Lifeweaver, though I think his healing design is still... not right, healing is a reaction, LW has to pre-empt and can't do anything else while doing it. While Symmetra works now as a dps, she's still very weirdly designed for it just to cling to an identity for a game philosophy that no longer exists. The purpose of each role has narrowed further and further to the point where there's just nothing new characters can do that's interesting. Brig's kit would not be so op if she didn't have healing in her kit. Then she provides short term sustain but not long term. I totally agree there's too much aoe healing and it's too good. I think single target healing should do good healing, aoe healing shouldn't. Brig, Baptiste should not do healing due to their high utility in other areas Kiriko I'm not really sure how she could be fixed. Maybe she also shouldn't have healing and the cleanse should and ult should be the focuses of her support kit. I think all the other supports currently are fine as healers. I know there's a lot of meltdowns over cc abilities like mei, flashbang, antiheal etc and perhaps you should get temporary cc immunity after being hit with CC so it can't be chained, but I think it actually adds something to the game. OW2 with just all damage all the time just isn't that fun. Maybe Mei should be a support, her defence role also no longer exists. I'm sure plenty of people disagree with things I've said, that's fine, I'm not claiming to be the final word, I just think that for longevity, the philosophy has to be closer to what OW1 started as.

I agree. Personally, I feel like Overwatch created a really toxic influence on the perception of role types, and as much as I like how OW1 Oriesa felt (I understand she was broken and needed to be fixed), I think we started to get "tank means sets up shield, support needs healer'", thankfully it wasn't BOTH which stuck. ...but even one sticking was bad, as now you can have very supportive characters and you now have to make them recover health and have the name, or melt health and not have it. I think melding attacker/defender was bad as well, too, because they had to make defender characters rework so that they would have the same kind of pacing as the attacker characters do. I left by then, but I hear OW2 got really bad about everything having to be fast paced, so now not only do we have narrow minded roles like you said, but those narrow roles aren't compatible with the game unless if they can really book it. It just... all feels so awful trying to get back into

Yeah I really am not having fun anymore. I agree that the perception of role was way too MMO trinity, which doesn't work or make sense in a pvp shooter and doubling down on those perceptions has only harmed the game.

I would say Overwatch was ruined when they tried to turn it into a super competitive Esport. The game was always terrible to watch. It was never going to succeed as an esport. Blizzard also tried this with WOW and failed there too. They stopped worrying about the game being fun and instead had to worry about what cheese meta comp would super high level players and pros pick and basically changed the entire game to try to balance that.

Hot take, pros ruined OW. If the devs focused on what is fun instead of what’s meta the game would have been better off. Like brig would never have been made to counter dive because the devs wouldn’t know what dive is.

Come to think about it. the first 3 maybe 4 characters added (ana, sombra, doomfist, orisa), where designed to be unique and didn’t try to fill gap in the meta often being pretty weak. Later characters would shoehorn them into the meta and design them around that, often being OP (brig, moira, bap)

I’d have to disagree with this take, the dev team actively wants and wanted the game to be competitive so balancing around them is crucial for their vision. Also players would discover metas no matter what you think or say there will always be players that want to be at the top and play at the top.

I think the reason development is so all over the place is because of how blizzard hires and fires their developers. You could feel a noticeable difference during the first year of OW1 and the years after that because most of the developers were laid off and there was also a moment when the heroes of the storm team was merged with the OW1 team.

Getting rid of 6v6 was the mistake that turned Overwatch in to a job masquerading as a game. As a tank main, Ow2 feels like they actively hate tanks

remember when you had to actually utilize health packs to work as a team? with small heals for dps and supp and saving the big heals for tanks whenever possible/necessary.

Overwatch is a competitive game, so design it for competitive players. Make it based around pro, and let the low ranks mess around until they figure it out. Why should a player try to play to improve when the game is designed for a casual experience rather than a competitive experience? Tank synergies may have been an issue, but now tank counterswapping is the issue. If my tank locks in DVA and the enemy has Zarya, we probably lose. If the enemy is playing Zarya, then the tank is expected to swap to Winston. 6v6 could reduce the need for counterswapping because tanks can help each other, especially when the enemy team is countering with their tank.

Illari is also broken dealing way too much damage from a distance. Like almost as good as McCree or perhaps better in certain ways. The falloff needs to start at 1 meter damage should just slowly drop until 30 meter orso. Also no 75 damage GTFO with that shit. Bapt needs to be nerfed in a similar way.
