why the Netherlands has so much money is because of the tax system the Netherlands used to be rich too but that was for the Dutch, now we also have to support our fellow countrymen who walk in and hold out their hands and we have to pay much more tax and even so much that it is ridiculous

The VOC did not amass its wealth through fair trade, but through colonialism, exploitation and violence. The company waged wars, imposed trade monopolies and oppressed local populations. Millions of people fell victim to VOC oppression. Locals were forced to work in inhumane conditions on plantations, were exploited by VOC traders and fell prey to diseases brought over by the Europeans. The wealth that the Netherlands acquired thanks to the VOC thus came from the exploitation and suffering of others. This must not go unmentioned.
fun fact the Netherlands is rich but dont let it fool you the poeple arnt that rich in general. if you compare it to italy the countrey is poor but in general the people are more rich then in the people in the Netherlands.
People often seem to forget the amount of taxes we dutch people pay is bonkers, literally everything is taxed; even inheritance is taxed; so they are taxing wealth that was already taxed. At a median to high income level, every euro you earn about 0,36 to 0,50 cents is for the government. And after that they tax you on owning the wealth as well whether that be a house or just cash etc.
Fun not so fun fact: cuz we first pay like 50% of our salaries or even our own businesses we have to pay a giga % to them. Besides that gas is like 100/300€ depends on car everything is expensive. Houses are like a million for nothing and we just pay 400 types of random bills that are literally for nothing so yeah they get 50Duocillion per minute from its sl@ves yeah
We are not rich. We cant build houses...CO2 problem. So the prices are insane. We have a lot of gas int he ground but we cant use it anymore because of earthquakes. So now we by gery expensive gas from the USA. BTW thanks for blowing up the pipe Joe. Now we know why We have more than 100k people homeless, all together more than 1.5M people who life from goverment money. Our rent prices are terrible. My house for exemple is 55m2, i pay 728 euro with a salary of 2043 euro, alone. Water/electricity 100, 400 for food, no luxury thinks. We have al lot of problems with the dykes, roads, bridges garages, all because of wrong leadership. And than the taxes. I think one of the highest in Europe. But we are not alone. Every European country and the USA will go down down.
It is stated that in the south of Limburg there is the highest concentration of higher education in the world. With stuff like Universities in Maastricht, Heerlen, Aachen (Germany) and Leuven (Belgium) which is all like 1 hour drive. Always mention The Randstad which is like a super city including Amsterdam and Rotterdam, where most dutch live.
I'm Dutch, the country might be well off but the citizens certainly aren't rich. Probably above average compared to all of Europe, but I'd expect German and Norwegian citizens to be better off on average. Didn't check any numbers tho

We were the number one in the 1600's. We owned every sea but there were only 4 million of us, we couldnt maintain it. To put it simply: we are the biggest smallest country in the world. But we are degenerating due to a woke cancer virus.
