I picked up this exact model at a local goodwill for about $10.00, maybe three months ago. I replaced a newer 5-CD carousel model (model year 2011, also by Sony). The sound quality via the installed DAC is much better than the newer model. It has an issue where sometimes the tray gets stuck, and I have to power cycle it, in order to get it moving again, but all in all, great model.

i don't tend to bother with receivers, but i _do_ tend to bother with old sony. i have the integrateds from this lineup. the ta-f35, ta-f45, and the ta-f55. i would love to find one of the factory wooden cases for them, but i think it would be more likely to take up woodworking and make my own.

You ever find a suitable speaker? Mine is blown and I can’t seem to find the matching part. Looking for an alternative that’s magnetically shielded

How do you make it work? Mine, i think the motors don't spin. I hear a sound of a motor rotating, but the tips do not turn. I have the same one . Do you know anything of what is happening?

I got one of these new in 1983. It must have been after Sony started to put more effort into marketing than general quality. The "Legato Linear" phrase was mostly marketing, but the technical theory given was that the transistor amplifier can have noises due to the way "fast" (staccato) switching transistors, so they try to convince the buyer that a slower switching method (legato) would sound better. Somebody at Sony stayed up all night inventing that line of reasoning. Mine started to die after a few years of use, and I found out it was due to poor construction. To Sony's credit, they used big copper heat sinks on some of the power devices, including a pretty important regulator. It was screwed tightly to the heat sink which was held to the circuit board with only one of its legs soldered as anchor. With heat cycling, the heat sink would expand and contract a lot, and it eventually broke one of the leads on the regulator off its plastic case. The regulator was only $2 at the time, but the tight placement of parts around it forced me to remove a couple of them just to get to the broken regulator. After I replaced it, I soldered both legs of that heat sink to the board so that problem doesn't happen again. But a few years after that, I started to hear hissing noises from one of the channels that would grow in loudness until it ended with a pop. Then it would sound normal for a while before repeating. Then the repeat cycles became shorter and shorter, but it was too hard to diagnose. So I gave up on it. Interestingly, the STR-V55 I bought the year before is still working.

Dude, the stones sacds in the plastic cases are regular cds. They didn't bother to remove the labeling. The stones digipaks are the only real sacds.
@Sonyphile
@Sonyphile Месяц назад
This is a Hybrid SACD I've tested on other players, it is a legit one. I didn't pull it from the original case, I pulled it from a paper sleeve since the case was destroyed.
@patbarr1351
@patbarr1351 Месяц назад
I had that player for 2 or 3 years. It was fun listening to surround sound SACDs, but I didn't think the Sony sounded as good as my '90's era Harman/Kardon single CD player. The bass was not as punchy. When I bought a $250 DAC and connected it to a Mac Air PC, I heard more clarity from my CDs. Now I have a Cambridge Audio SACD/DVD/BR player which sounds much better. Sadly, SACD players that do 5.1 surround are almost extinct now. BTW, Vocalion in the UK has a good selection of '70's era quad recordings on SACD multichannel from Columbia & RCA.

alo, cool monitor. I used to have a Dell Trinitron at work but my manager tossed it one day because apparently it ''wasnt needed' when a new one showed up I snagged it and talked to my manager that I could buy it. I took it home less than a week later where it is now on my desk displaying the xbox 360 marketplace for the final time :P

Hi. I also have a Sony trinitron TV. I have a PS one when I turn it on. The image on the Sony logo is also shaking. There is also a screen shake in the memory card menu. And at some points in the games. Any suggestions what it might be?
@rady782

I thought maybe it was a problem in the power supply chain. The capacitors have already dried out and are not filtering properly. But the question is, which one of the hundred? A frame chip or a string transistor. I still can't figure it out...

I was thinking of adding an acrylic mat to the platter on this same TT in hopes of getting better sound and they look cooler than an old rubber mat. Is that a bad idea due to the size of the platter or height of the tone arm being set to the rubber mat it came with? Did I just answer my own question? 😂
@Sonyphile
@Sonyphile Месяц назад
Since the arm is not adjustable, I would recommend against it unless it somehow has the exact same height.
