you are wasting your SSD, with a computer from then running XP there will be very little to no performance change using an SSD over a standard hard drive, those older computer operating systems are small compared to Windows 10 and already load up pretty quickly even from a hard drive
15+ years ago not only did I want to do that. But also run a 25pair copper (110 punch down.) , coax, and a backup wireless PTP. Just for fun. But, as time went on. I have a shed now. :) That and mostly places only use fiber and some sort of wireless if they can't use fiber. But, I was looking at playing with old stuff like HDSL, Digital PBX, Moca, etc etc.
Just finished a 10X16 using Kings as well. I did the same, made some adjustments, added a little roof height. I ran 220 to it as well, my plan is to drop a mini split into it so I can use it as a wood working shop in the winter (and keep it cool in the summer) Ended up going with 2x6 so I could better insulate i. I'm hoping the 2x6 helps the roof hold up in the winter, I'm up in AK so snow loads are an issue. yours looks incredible though.
The sunroof eventually broke again after trying to vent it during the winter. I bought a PremiumCare ESP through Zeigler after the fact and had the sunroof replaced under the warranty about a month ago.
I have WOW for my ISP. with their free modem they provide on the 1.2gbps plan. I got rid of Xfinity due to their data caps. I wish I had fiber, maybe in the future they'll run it to my neighborhood.
it'll be better as a Windows 98 PC because if i can remember correctly i had a early Pentium 4 and it was so underpowered for XP even tha Pentium 3 models was underpowered for XP
My experience of Gateway machines way back when, is there seems to run very well, optimised hardware. I actually had Xp pro running on a pentium 2, 350 and it was surprisingly snappy, even before optimised windows. It ran as a server at home and would run stable for months at a time
My first PC had a Pentium 2 350Mhz. I ended up replacing the cpu with the 450MHz version and ran Win XP on that for quite a while. It worked well from what I remember.
Oh wow, this is perfect. I'm really glad RU-vid suggested this to me! How did you rack your Z840's? I have a Z440 I'd LOVE to do some racking with but just not sure the parts I'd need (I've never put together a home rack).
I purchased the NavePoint adjustable rack rails from Amazon and the PCs just sit on them. They were much cheaper than the official HP sliding rack mount kit. The only drawback is I cant slide the machines out to easily work on them like you can with the official rails.
that would be a far better Win98 SE system, XP is fairly heavy on resources, especially if you upgraded to SP3. And for a retro gaming system, there's few to any games that will be better on XP.
Suggestion: the ati catalyst program was found mostly in the taskbar down by the clock. if not found there then try reinstalling and doing custom then select full install. (as it may have only installed the drivers)
nice looking rack and setup. Unifi is like a drug, you get addicted. starts with a switch and an AP, and months, years later, it spirals out of control. :)
Nice video. I've had my basement flood previously. I would be worried with the rack that close to the sump pit. Might want to mount stuff as high as possible and organize the cables.
Thank you. Ive thought about that as well but really the UPS is the only thing down low and if the water ever gets that high, I have bigger issues to worry about.
Started with a 12U wall mount and in months, had more equipment than it could hold. This was due to a neighbor giving me three older Ubiquiti cameras. What’s the logical thing to do? Buy a 42U Dell APC cabinet to mount it all in, then buy Dell servers lol. I’m loving it all though :)
Nice video. Thank you for posting. What model is the wall mount cabinet and do you like it? I would love to upgrade my wall mounted setup (I made a video on my channel all about it).
