Hi I’m Jay Kelly, welcome to my channel Jay Kelly Golf. This RU-vid channel is designed to help you play better golf with easy to apply drills for your golf.
I mainly specialise in long game coaching. I look to provide you with some breakdowns and areas to search for in your game.
I understand not one drill will help the same issue so I look to dive deeper into what you can mechanically look for.
I want to help you play better golf so I will be providing topics on all areas of your game such as how to help fix your slice, fix your hook, hit the ball further and striking the golf ball better.

This guy does NOT RPT NOT have the yips. I had them and a friend of mine has the worst case I’ve ever seen. This guy has a nice rhythm/tempo which people with the yips cannot do.
Yips for me are just off the green, basically a putt with a wedge or 9iron for example. Jerky and wristy. Having the heel of the club up and using a putting stroke around the greens has helped massively
I constantly battle, getting to the top and having my arms go down before going towards the ball. I haven't tried this drill before, but I'm excited to see if it can help. Nice job!
I started getting the yips on my short chip shots from around the green, on the practice ground I could chip perfectly but not on the course, it then went on to my putting, it got so bad I had to give the game up which has haunted me ever since, I loved my golf
Great video mate! I def have this problem! When I do the movement correctly and pull my right hip around towards the target my right leg wants to straighten!! Should I be trying to keep my right leg flexed??? Cheers
I’m lazy with drills but I do go to the range at least once a week. This early pressure move is one element lacking in my swing, I suppose if I want to achieve this then I better get into some drills! I do get my weight forward, but it happens as I pull down on my arms I start pulling everything forward if that makes sense. I appreciate your style of explanation, cheers.
Excellent recommendation Jay to use a handled weighted bag to swing back and forth in order to practice getting the weight onto the lead leg. A drill I will definitely be trying since I have this weight transfer challenge. As you indicated, this weight transfer has the feeling of a "punch shot!" Well Done Jay!
Personally, I think focusing on quality of impact makes a huge difference. It's hard for seniors to generate more club head speed without a lot of work, but ball strike quality is easier to achieve, and working with your team I feel I've achieved that, and only then have I focused on swing speed changes.
This may sound contrary to some instructions but I gained more control and distance by shortening my backswing. I’m 67 with chronic back and hip problems. I’m definitely squaring the club head at impact with much greater consistency.
What a great rubber band drill Jay to work on keeping the left arm straight in the swing. I have used this and a rope when working on this sequence. Although both are useful, I think the rubber band is better! Well Done Jay! I'm enjoying working through your library
Excellent explanation and demonstration Jay on how Senior Golfers can Gain More Speed! As a senior golfer, I was very intrigued at what you are proposing. I liked the idea of "flared" feet at set up and bringing the left knee in on the takeaway. Your recommendation of making the hip turn into the right leg and not past it is good one as was the lifting of the arms in the backswing when they are at about hip level. This is something I try to do and as you warned, it does sometime lead to a steep return to the ball. Well Done Jay! I have decided to subscribe to your channel and check out your library.
This is exactly what I needed for my swing right now. To the point, gives a couple options, and doesn't promise a quick fix lol. Appreciate these type of videos
Thanks for sharing this Jay, great video and this is something I’m looking to add to my own swing. The clear way you explained the shallowing move whilst maintaining good wrist positions will really help me!
This is a great video. It nicely covers a variety of reasons that could be the cause of shanks. The second was not the reason, for me, and the first may be a minor cause, but the last one is one I'm going to work on.
@@jaykellygolf7100 No golf here for awhile. High Sunday will be -8 F (-22 C), but I will try it indoors and see what happens. I have some impact tape, so even without a shank, I will know if i am hitting on the heel. Thanks for the ideas.... I have just been compensating by trying to strike the ground an inch in front of the ball, and an inch inside the ball. It will be nice to have an actual fix.
I've found after drooping that right foot back in the last 6 months after playing 5 years, that its really given me room to swing more from the inside and help with over the top. I wonder if this is due to a lack of flexabliity?
Not a bad video but to be fair as a better player suffering with the yips its more within 5-10ft off the green. This video is more like a Pitch shot which most with the yips dont really struggle with. In my case being this distance from the green isnt an issue.
I hope you spend more time on the full swing..forgetting about the ball..and showing how/angle the club takes after it hits the ball. Does the club travel the ball line to some point then comes up at the toe line?? Is the exact same but opposite of the back swing. After watch so many training RU-vids, I have found myself stopping the club swing at the ball...so much practice with freeze downswings.
Great video. With the freezers would you start with the club hovering above the ball (2:23) or set down behind it? The latter more representative of hitting a normal shot? If that makes sense
Thank you! I think it all depends what I’m working on. I don’t mind either to be honest. Freezers are more for a backswing change and feeling what it’s like to come down from there. Does that make sense?
@@jaykellygolf7100 💯 thanks. Working on trying to get higher arms with more loft on the clubface at the top so freezers in a bay with a mirror are ideal
