In all of music history, there has never been a more "all about ME" conductor than boy Simon Rattle. Karajan and Fürtwangler were aimable serfs in comparison to this self-aggrandizing prat!

why do trumpets in orchestras never play an actual, normal, standard, Bb trumpet??? It's always gotta be some bass trumpet tuned to F or some shit like that

Please could you provide the texr of the translation into English? This must be the only one in existence! I have tried many times to do it myself, but it feels so "failed" in comparison with the way M. places the vowels in the original German. ..."Herr Goooooht," for example--that perfectly extended surge on an open "O." I'd be very grateful, for I am an organist who has the good fortune of accompanying a fine church choir. However......here in the U.$. not everyone wants to sing in German. (That was putting it mildly.) I applaud all of you for such an impressive, pure performance of a pure score if ever there was one. When this happens with "Verleih uns Frieden I, with so many others, cannot hold back tears. Complex tears. Bc Mendelssohn was banned by ignorant fascists in his own country 1933-1945. And now look how is performed in all the ends of the world, and specially revered in Germany itself. Bc never in this planet's history have we needed God's peace like we do now. Bc the Good Felix Mendelssohn, a 101% believer in Jesus, converted from obaervant Judaism, imparts that piece to me, you, and all persons of good will no matter the race, the color, language, nation, class. Like God! The one true God who is "no respecter of persons" says the scripture. A Gospel (Goid News) that is free and without price. Mendelssohn knew this. Bless every one of you for the way you cimpleted this massive project. For the way you put your heart and soul into it. You lift. You build. You inspire. Thank you, Mark (Arizona USA)

People forget that this solo is supposed to be like Taps, a haunting funeral knell that calls the Reaper to attention. "Trauermarsch" translates from the German into "Funeral March." That's the intent here. And I love his interpretation of this. Soft, pained, but focused. And with a German trumpet, that's perfect.
