Ik blijf maar terugkomen naar deze video. Ik heb diverse versies van Melanie beluisterd en deze is toch veruit de beste van Lay down. Jammer van de mindere kwaliteit van het geluid. Ik hoop dat iemand een opname heeft met betere audio. Dit is echt een superversie.
For Melanie... Unfortunately, somewhat out of touch here in Tasmania, Australia, moreover due to other circumstances, I only have become aware of Melanie's very sad passing (five months ago) this day, today, 23 June 2024. My deepest condolences are offered therefore to all her family and friends and to all whose lives Melanie inspired. For me, Melanie was, without a doubt, my teenage soul-mate. From age thirteen, 1973, hearing Melanie's Carnegie Hall Leftover Wine Concert, (a vinyl record of my friend Marian) immediately, I became obsessed not only with Melanie's music, but her unique individualism. From here I tried (albeit poorly) to pick out guitar chords and to imitate her sound; practicing every night, to get it right. Needless to say, it seemed a miracle when Melanie visited Hobart, 1976, performing at the Town Hall. Of course, I was there, amid all the spectators and applause! More than forty years later, Melanie is still at the fibre of my being. Indeed, I love Melanie as one of my closest friends. For this, I pray that her beautiful soul is at peace with God - yet, as she would have it, still be free to bring about all those beautiful things she so loved and worked for On earth. I Saw Melanie in a concert in 1972 or 73 in Saratoga, New York State, Usa..great memories as I got to Say hello After her show and get her autographe..I was only 14 or so but liked her alot then..😊

Such a little child's voice & such a great big heart. Her voice was so plaintive, so high on life. She was everybody's little soul sister. Makes me cry everytime I hear her.
Beautiful... such a powerful voice yet there's this transcendent essence in her singing. I just watched Joan Baez perform this song. Different take, different vibe but just as beautiful. . Joan Baez can put one in such a beautiful state of mind when she sings. Damn courageous as well as she was / is a strong advocate for justice. In case you may not know, Joan Baez was Melanie's idol and brought her tea when they both performed at Woodstock. The story goes, Melanie was coughing a lot and there was nothing in her little tent, no food / water, just a little stool to sit on as she waited, and as it turned out the entire day and most of the evening before she performed. But just like Joan Baez with her performance at Woodstock, Melanie's performance made her an international star! Generational, legendary gifted singer / songwriters!. Bless them both!
I cannot get this song out of my head. I can see her sitting tapping her feet I can hear her tapping them. I cannot believe she has gone, I wake every day and hope it's a bad joke. I like other singers, none as much as Melanie she will always be my number one. Heaven a better place with her in it.
I saw a Facebook post about Melanie's concert at Woodstock in 1969 and the moment in the rain with the candles that inspired her hit Lay Down (Candles in the Rain) in 1970. I read in another online post that she met Amma The Hugging Saint and that inspired her to write the song Motherhood of Love. I met Amma in the summer of 2019 at a gathering and even though I was not inspired to write a song, Amma's hug inspired me to find and encourage others to share peace. We lost Melanie in January of 2024, she was 76. But I hope Melanie's song will inspire other people around the world to share peace and harmony with others.
..I also loved that Melanie was so down-to-earth; sitting on a stool, never dressed like a Madonna 'whore', eh? And her songs were heartfelt and sincere!
I never heard this song written by the late great Jim Croce! Melanie sang it most beautifully! Rest in peace, Melanie and Jim! You were two of the greatest folksingers and songwriters and musicians!
You could not meet a more humble person. She took everything she had for fame with a grain of salt. Her humanity always shone through in her conversations. There will never be anyone like her ever again ❤️

Hi Ian Walker. I subscribe to you and we've communicated a couple times. Just want to say how sorry I am about Melanie's passing. I'm sure it is very hard for you, me too. This has been quite surreal. I think we spoke before about Melanie's long, permanent and positive effect on the lives of true fans. Hope you are well. Ron
