Welcome to Finding Speed, a channel dedicated to sim racing (mostly iRacing). I live stream races, make track guides, tutorials, and more. I also coach beginner and intermediate drivers. Shout if you need me. Every now and then I stream other games I'm playing.
Hey just wanted to say thanks for the guides they've helped a ton! I'm sure you know but your website is down, I'm guessing you stopped creating content. I hope everything in life is going well for you though and thanks again!
Those setups wouldn’t even pass technical inspection now, let alone be competitive. Decent setups are usually only good for a single season (maybe 2 at a push) due to pre-season updates / changes 4 times per year.
I’m about to do my first fixed race in the SR10 at Sebring. My best lap so far is a 1:59. There is no way I am getting down to the times you guys are running. Is this race also fixed or is it open? Nice driving, BTW.
I'm improving from 1.54 to now avg 1.51 per lap after this video. In order to be competitive, you have to be 1.45 to 1.47. I'm not sure I can get there.
No way! I actually mastered this track thinking I was too slow. I Was getting high 1:54.000. Came to your video and I’m way more consistent in my laps with your chicane approach.
Thanks for the kind words. I’m still kind of involved (I work for Apex Racing and VRS), but no plans to drive again at the moment. Issues with my lower back
@@FindingSpeed Ah man, I’m really sorry to hear that. I have a few compressed disks in my lower back that cause me issues but they’re still intermittent. One day, I’m sure the issues I have will catch up with me. Best of luck to ya man. Your lap guides were always my favorite. Be well 🤙🏻
@@Mancave_Racecar yeah - I didn’t look after myself after the early signs and it really bit me in the ass! Thanks again - really means a lot. Good luck on the track 🏁
@5:31 do you mean by setting something other than autoblip in the settings menu and use clutch and throttle to manual blip?in general, which mode would your recommend for driving mx5, autoblig, completely manual, etc
Autoblip is no good for MX5. Set it manual and learn how to rev match with a manual throttle blip when shifting down to first gear (and sometimes even down to second). It’s the fastest method and gives you the most control.
I guess I have the same questions about cost as the posters before me. I really enjoyed your build, good design, consider at least some aspects of it stolen. 👍🏻🔥
Hi, thank you for this series of videos, - I'm a DCS sim pilot and also wheelchair bound (this will make sence to you soon) I have issues setting up my gear so i cant even go for a fly often, brought the next level racing flight sim pro and it didnt do what it was supose too and was too uncomfitable too (40" seperation between throttle and stick) but i found your video and now am looking to design a ali station. May i ask, do you think they would be strong enough (ballence wise) to have with out a chair, so i can use it more as a front frame for example, so i can use my gaming chair or wheelchair depending on my day. did u order your alli profile from the company you send the quote to on the software or someone else (sorry if i missed it) and would u be willing to say roughtly how much it all came too? many thanks
Thanks for watching. You could definitely tailor this to make a frame that simply sits in front of you. I don’t know what kind of weight of equipment you’re putting on it, but mine wasn’t top heavy with out me sitting in it. It needs a non-slip mat or even rubber feet ideally since it’s surprisingly lightweight and would slide on hard / wood flooring. I designed it in the software, which prints a handy parts list which gives you dimensions. I used that info to order direct from my supplier. I spent around £250 on the profiles, but I don’t know what today’s prices are like. Hope that helps!
@@FindingSpeed Thank you for the reply, helps a hell of a lot tbh, as for weight i really dont know either, but i know the Foot pedals are probably most of the weight so should help hold it down. i will start coming up with some ideas soon then, winwing took a ali frame setup with them to the flight sim expo to show off what can be done, so i might try and work with that. Thanks again bud this is so helpful
@@FindingSpeed got another question for you, if you dont mind, how did you know what parts you would need for "strengh" of holding parts? - im new to all of this so i honestly dont know how much weight one of these can / should handle
@Phoenixfett assuming you’re dealing with racing / flight sim equipment you’ll be fine with 40/40. People often use 80/40 or 120/40 for based to make them higher or heavier, but in terms of strength they’re incredibly strong so you won’t need to worry unless you’re creating an industrial application.
Hey man, very nice video! I started playing iracing 2 days ago with zero driving experience. I don't even know how to drive a real car. I don't have a wheel, only an xbox controller. In my first day, I wasn't even capable of staying inside the track. My car was also oversteering and understeering in every corner. On my 2nd day, I started to get better and better and better and I was able to stay inside the track at lower speeds but at least I was finishing the laps. On day 3, I started to gain more speed and soon after I managed to do my fastest lap at 1:51! After this video, I think I should be able to improve my time a bit more!
As someone who has driven a car before…. What on earth are they thinking at iracing headquarters? No car drives like the mx5… even on cold tires, heck you can drive on snowy roads and have more grip than that car. I get it… it’s a car that is incredibly rewarding to master… especially if you do a lot of driving on hockey rinks, frozen lakes or margarine. Seriously though, can I get an amen? Honestly the car makes me giggle sometimes by the insane antics.
@@DirtyMike2024 that’s wild! I guess they wanted to exaggerate the forces and reactions on the car, but I can’t think of a reason why, especially considering the towering cost of using iRacing, you’d think they would want the first road car rookies use to be a friendly foray into the esport…. But what do I know..
I tried this car, gt4 and gt3, I found this is most suitable for beginners. I can drive the other two smoothly for sure, but way slower than others and cannot apply the correct technique
I know this video is 3 years old but I've got 2 questions, where can you buy that wheel mounting plate from and do you recommend using an actual car seat (and where can I find measurements for them if you know)
Thank you so much for the video. Very useful. I look after for a sim rig and your video also design fits my needs perfectly. Can you send me that’s documentation please.
Absolutely amazing video! THANK YOU for the work you had with this. It almost makes it too easy... And the tips on the software and motedis website; that's just too good. Absolutely golden! I was struggling a bit with finding suppliers in Portugal, but this way it's just a streamlined, enjoyable process
Sadly not. I’m out of racing due to health issues. Working for Apex Racing UK and VRS in brand and marketing so still kind of around! Thanks for watching 🏁
@ 1:13 Once we go flat out through that section, when we catch it right, and were on the limit all the way through, it's one of the most satisfying sections of turns that I've experienced so far. Summit Point Sector 3 gives me the same sensation. LOVE IT!! Seriously Im addicted to thatfeeling now.. If my PC didn't run iRacing. It would be a 2000$ Paper Weight. I literally use it for NOTHING else.
I'm looking at this now, my issue is having the placement of mounting for chair and pedals... can I mount to the base, or do I need all the cross members...? Ie, the 40x40...?
Hard to say without seeing your driving, but it sounds like you’re lifting out of the brake way too fast. Don’t focus on wheee I start breaking - focus on where I stop braking (and how I trail the brake into the apex). This will keep your car more stable and controllable during corner entry.
Oh man when I saw this video I really wished it was of the old Rudskogen. I used to do roadracing on it in my youth together with the family. It was super cool on 2 wheels!
When I do this I have a line down the center as if the pictures didn't line up. Any thoughts? I have a 2560x1440 monitor. So I doubled that resolution.
