Beautiful day in the park, band was great as usual and all band members had plenty of solos. My favorite slide whistle player also played cornet. The groupies (wives) encouraged them.
They are all terrific players! The two in the front row are playing Eb alto (same as Eb tenor) horns, and the lady in the second row is playing a Bb baritone horn. Both euphonium players in this video are men. However, in other concerts, we've had some fine female euphonium players.
This is the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band, based in Red Wing, Minnesota. FYI the woman playing the cornet solos in Cossack Fire Dance recently joined the faculty at University of Minnesota and also joined the Canadian Brass Quintet.
The Minnesota Mandolin Orchestra has been around since the early 1990's. The Classical Mandolin Society of America has pictures of past mandolin orchestras. classicalmandolinsociety.org/mandolin-orchestras/ The standard instrumentation is 1st and 2nd mandolins, mandolas (or octave mandolins), mandocellos, guitars, and basses - analogous to the strings of a symphony orchestra plus guitars.
Hey Glen, I sent you a friend request on Facebook. Would like to talk to you about getting these live recordings as audio files. Would love to turn these videos into a vinyl to play on my record player, since grandpa’s cds don’t have him speaking. With your permission of course. Much easier to discuss through private messenger on Facebook. Hope to hear from you
Thanks to John Rusterholz, video director and his crew for capturing the video of the concert. Also, thanks to some of our substitute performers: Dan Theobald on flugelhorn, James Lund on principal cornet, Roger Grupp, Connie Root, Tina Cavitt, Benjamin Thompson, Shawn Radcliff on the extra trumpet parts, Tim Mills, Jim Root, and others on trombone.
The St. Anthony Civic Orchestra included The Maine Coon Cat Waltz on its May 7, 2022, benefit concert, whose theme was "Animals". Sharing the spotlight with cats were bats, dogs, horses, chickens, swans, eagles, swallows, and itsy bitsy spiders.
After singing a full chorus with modern harmonies, the quartet was right on pitch! This song was part of the June 10, 2003, concert in Central Park, rosevillebigband.org/history/2003-06-10.htm
I just put on my Dan Kirchner CD this morning and decided to do a google search to see if I could find out where our old neighbors were. Listening to his playing now. I was sad to see he is no longer with us. I would have loved to get in touch. My husband Rick and I (Annette) used to love when he would sit on their porch and play. I would open all my windows so I could listen. Dan and Lorraine were such wonderful neighbors and friends. They were a blessing to everyone they met! I can't wait to see Dan playing for Jesus in Heaven. Blessings and prayers to the family from the Mutzebaugh's in Colorado Springs !
I don’t know if you would remember me. But Dan was my grandpa. We’d visit in the summer and lived with them for a short time before moving to Pueblo, then moved back from Oklahoma. Thank you for your kind words, I needed them today. Today was a year ago we lost grandpa
