What was the point of putting anything in the can before it was dunked in water? If it was gonna leak it’s gonna be wet inside whether or not anything is in it!
The reference to the hinges coming off is because original military ammunition can lids are designed to slide to the side and come off. Many cheap Chinese made cans have a solid hinge system, which is cheaper to manufacture.
A swimming pool, 3 feet maximum, would be a better test as that is the depth that someone could be expected to retrieve their full ammo can from, say from a stream/creek they were trying to cross and accidentally lost their can in. Any deeper, like 6 feet and you're not getting your can back by swimming down to it and back up (full can is too heavy to swim with).
Remember guys Harbor Freight sells two types of 50 cal cans. One made in Vietnam and the other is made in China. The Vietnamese one seems to hold better.
Dude these cans work great,, I always inspect them at the store to make sure there aren’t cracks in the seal or rips… but I’ve had zero issues with them,, every time I open one up all the ammo looks beautiful still… Although,, I’ve had a box of .30-30 in one of my drawers for 20 years,, I just looked at them the other day it’s like the day I got them.. It’s really all about keeping moisture,, humidity out and if the temp stays the same relatively all year round in your house you should have no problems,,
mine are the same quality as military cans. They don't leak! 99% of stickers will come off clean with the heat from a hair drier. Heat guns even better!
Going to check to see if they have the smaller version. This old lady would have a bit of trouble lifting a full .50 cal can. Also like that you can take the lid on and off. Versatility is a good thing.
My local shop haven't had a 21 gen 5 till recently. Been waiting to see if they would ever get one in then forgotten about it for a bit but just last week went in they had only two one with ten round mags and one with 13. I snatched up the 13 real quick. Traded in a gen 4 21 to get it but love the gen five better
Call me stupid but, what's the purpose of putting it in water? My HF ammo cans sit in a nice dry cabinet. Never crossed my mind to go swimming with them to where I would have to worry about water getting inside. Even if it was raining, I'm pretty sure it's not going to get wet on the inside.
I love the 21. Mine has Trijicon HD night sights, a Surefire x300 turbo, and I added +4 mag extensions to 2 mags, kept the other ones stock. I use civil defense +P ammo, and I sometimes carry it around. But it’s mostly my home defense pistol. I’m hoping to get a suppressor soon and change out the ammo to subsonic (civil defense is flying at almost 2000 feet per second) and I want to add an Acro P2 on it. Compliments my BCM home defense rifle nicely. I live in Colorado and sometimes go up to the mountains and it’s a great mountain gun too.
When you open the can, the lid /hinge, is designed to slide off. As to the stickers, there are 2, maybe more, types of stickers. The plasticized one that you have and another one that comes off in pieces. A lot more work taking that sucker off. I bought 7 cans, 4 were plasticized, and 3 were bastardized. For the price, not a bad deal.
Be prepared to have Streamlight replace the plastic battery door on that TLR-1. They disintegrate all on their own just sitting in a safe after about 3 to 4 years.
Just got one on Black Friday, I noticed a bunch on the shelf had the gasket pinched and not on right. You can route that gasket back in place but if you didn’t it would leak. Kind of need to pick through to get a good one
Bad reviews provided by people that have to crap on inexpensive shooting gear, gun show ammo can sellers, and their friends. Then there is the Harbor Freight haters too! Far too much thought goes into ammo can integrity. I vacuum seal my ammo then drop it into the ammo cans. For $75 on amazon I got a vacuum sealer and 5 rolls of various width tubes that I can cut to any length necessary for what I'm sealing. That is less than buying 5 ammo cans. I'm told they do good with food storage too...LOL The better leak test is to fill the can with water, close it, and invert it. Don't do it in the sun or the rising temps will pressurize the can. Or do it in the sun and see how much pressure it will retain before something leaks.
