I’ve seen other tutorials that try to replicate serging without a serger differently, but I like this method the best. It’s definitely more work, but it’s so much cleaner and really avoids any fraying at all. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

Very nice and understandable tutorial but then during gathers, how will you know the inches you will stop the gathers at ? Or did you use the measurements you got that you use for the collar before you split to gather
I am definitely going to give this top a try. I think with a strategically placed back- underskirt it would make a lovely cool summer dress in a viscose.
It’s because the center front needs to be cut on fold. And the only way to get that is by placing the pattern in a bias like way. Try it out and you will see that’s the only way to place it.

Fantastic instructions! Well done. Very clear in instructions and demonstration. I had to watch the part on sewing the armholes a couple of times to understand as that was confusing! The top turned out beautifully. One question - you mention that it makes a lot of difference if the top is cut on the bias. What happens if you cut it on grain?
Thank you for the feedback🙏 I’m glad the instructions were clear enough for you to understand. Cutting this pattern on a bias makes it drape better and finer. The opposite is the case when it’s cut on the straight grain. Hope this helps?
