I never tried out unreal before. But I already know the experience, even though I’ve never used it. I pretty imagined what would life be like there. From interface, cpu performance, programming, preparing models, even MHs. That’s a true battle. Let’s be real, Unreal is more for experienced devs, and definitely not recommended for beginners in game dev. Besides, you need a capable hardware to handle most of the crashes. IDK, maybe 16 GB ram, core i7 with more than 7th gen, like 8, 9, 10 or 11, better graphics card, SSD, and so much on. It’s too much to handle. However, I’m not trying to discourage you, but, we need to be aware of that. :D
The unreal engine viewport navigation must be the biggest insult that the industry and developers have received, it is a powerful advanced tool for its time, but its use and navigation make it a golden bicycle without wheels. It's very nice to have a catalog of mechanics and resources ready to use, but when you have to do something from scratch, everything is always a problem. I'm part of an unreal team for money, and I hate every second I have to use that aberration. More than 7 years of experience in the industry and nothing has trampled my spirit and my creativity more than a unreal engine.
Unreal Engine is nothing more than a marketplace aimed at people who want to make games (Everyone at some point in their life will think "I want to make a game") So you cash for their assets and they run away with your money while you burn yourself out trying to get a simple thing to work.
As a dev started in 2018, learning 2 years unreal staff then in 2020 started at first game. After 4 years too many bugs and errors, I can't even migrating around 100gb of reversed engineering games assets to 5.4 version because it crashing during migrating on my high end pc. I need hire more people and pay them to add more AI specific types and speed up basically development workflow. Unfortunately story of the game is short it's 1-2 hours of gameplay. I Decided to invest money on new studio because progress is slow
