The stradi violin is still the biggest flex I have ever seen on a parody, not just is price, but the history and prestige it holds.

The Cello is not good at all for this piece, the bass is not rumbling enough for any Brahms piece, I play a Storioni Cello and it sounds ten times better, especially the G and C string. I would change the Cello for Brahms, the Cello is too " well- behaving" for Brahms.

For me it might be no 2. It was not the most open throated, but it was the most complex and colorful of them all, it had a unique character. No. 5 gave it a better fight and had even more clarity IMHO. As it turns out the No 5 was the Strad and No 2 was the Philip. Wait and see over the years and decades how the No. 2's voice and response will open up and it becomes more open throated resonant, and unique sounding.

What does standing and swaying have to do with learning to play the violin?
@tingdavidson
@tingdavidson 5 месяцев назад
The swaying helps to keep the knees/body from locking or feeling stiff. It also helps find the center of balance so students don't lean off center (ex. into the violin side if they're focused on their left hand.) Movement is also encouraged while playing if it is aligned well as it keeps the body relaxed and can help with expressiveness and communicating with other players!

Vuillaume and Bernardel clearly underperformed. I actually liked the Fiorini at least as much as the Philip Ihle in some ways. That would need some consideration. The Mirecourt was not at all terrible, especially for the price. There is always the problem of placement vs mikes, and quality of playback equipment. In the playoff, #5 sounds a little weak and more even with #2 than was indicated in the first round. In that preliminary round, it was clearly better and Philips's less so.

I actually liked #1 and #5. #1 was very balanced and sweet. Between #2 and #5, #5 was obviously the better instrument. It was voluminous and rich. I actually didn't like #2 much. It sounded inconsistent and thin in the low and mid registers. #4 I felt was the worst.

I picked #3 and #6. Surprisingly the Strads don't sound really that great! Kind of underwhelming to be frank...

2:38 3:04 vs 6:25, No. 6 is also great. For me, No.3 and 5 are the best , and No 6 is comparable to Philip Ihle's Guanerius. 4:46 is impressive.

The violin gets transported around a lot. Obviously the museo del violino was a destination. Same with the Hellier strad as well

Listening again Feb 2022. I thought that this was a video of them being played. It is still enjoyable, though. I picked 2 and 5. Then on the playoff, I picked 2 as sounding better. Either way, the violinist is very good. It's interesting that I partly changed my mind.

Thought 3 should have been included along with 2...ca. 1709 strad copies. However strad had sharper sound separation.

Did the player know which violin was which? That alone could bias the result.

Can you spot the glaring flaw in this test. Every person who is listening to this comparison is doing so on an electrical device. Strads are noted for their sound in concert halls so this is pointless
