Gary was just at The Bend Raceway for the 2023 Australian National Superbike champs - what a weekend. Incredibly, former 2000 season 500cc MotoGP star Gary McCoy made a comeback in the Masters Class on a magnificently re-built Yamaha TZ750. He placed 2nd on both days, against some big bore four strokes. It was interesting to see him coaching the Yamaha BluCrew kids riding factory prepared standard Yam 150cc road bikes. When he returned to the Parc Ferme for prize giving and interviews he was besieged by the kids… which I thought was the perfect example of “Don’t do as I say, do as I do”.
I reckon he'd have won the bloody race if the thing he was riding, had more beans down the straight. How many times was he up to 3rd., coming out of turn 12, then got beaten down to about 10th., by the time they were on the brakes!! 6th. is not bad for a Wildcard ride, is it.
Just going through a heap of old VHS tapes from over the years, to be honest I have no idea what is on most of them as they are unlabelled, its going to be a big job, but you never know, I remeber going to a few of their races
Pete was arguably our best ever Touring Car driver! That Mustang was made for him! He wouldn't do press interviews (I guess) due to his speech stutter, which you can hear in this documentary at the end, but he would have the biggest grin out of all the drivers in the winners circle! Absolutely brilliant post!!!!
@@lsemnewton that would make sense being so close to Jan 1 2001. I wonder if any other 2000 events have the same setup (widescreen with red bars for 4:3 footage)
@@qwerty21345 Actually, for the 2000 race onboard cameras and some of the pit lane cameras were 4:3 so they had the red bars while everything else was 16:9. Thank you Kayo for checking
all good, just going through old VHS tapes before they become completely unwatchable, hence the quality isn't that good but it hasn't been lost completely
@aussiemotorsport1 have you got the complete pre race with all the supports as the Official dvd couldn't be bothered? Also do have any Full Saturdays from 97 onwards.
Even better when there's 20 Sprintcars on a 1/3 of a mile dirt track, or better!! To bad we only have one track that even comes close to the description, and that's the Perth Motorplex. Wish we still had one over here in Sydney!!
So many great Aussie talents that never got the sponsors that half arsed riders like Carlos Chucka Sete Gibernau & many others got just because they were born in the right country despite any real talent.
For my money when it comes to stripped down built for purpose machines the 1966 Repco BT-19 along with the Spitfire & the 74 Ducati SS 900 will never be surpassed when it comes to aesthetics meets functionality.
Interesting call to ping Brock for a jumped start. James brock was right, if he jumped the start he would have gotten an advantage going into the kink and turn 2. After all, its not like he could have missed a gear in that Monaro because they were built with a Holinger 6-speed sequential shift transmission and both of the 7.0L V8's in those cars were built by Mike Excel at Garry Rogers Motorsport so they were identical in power and torque. Ah well.
He was great. One of my favorite F1 drivers. A few years ago, I wrote an article based on his biography written by Tony Davis. An amazing life story, Jack Brabham was a legend, a great driver and constructor.
Great video, great memories, thanks for sharing. This is 1993 by the way, I'm 100%. Mikres beat Jim Read in the final of the first triple challenge held in 1992.
