Attempted this today but had to turn around at the keyhole due to 50-70 mph winds and white outs. This mountain ain’t messing around. You guys are impressive.
Well, it’s six years on and I just watched this video for the first time and am in the market potentially for a first plane, though I’ll likely end up joining a flight club… What’s the state of the airplane now? Did you finish your training? Have you upgraded the plane at all? Etc. etc. etc. more over, how do you like the Tripp pacer as an airplane?
Just stumbled on this, well done ... not sure why, but I've always had a soft-spot in my heart for the Tripacer/Colt (flying milking stool) family of birds...
We both had a layering system but for pants, it was synthetic leggings, climbing pants, and then a waterproof shell. We did not get wet at all, the powder was very dry. The boots we had could have been more robust we just had normal hiking boots with Micro Spikes. Later in the season, we will use insulated mounting boots and crampons.
Man that was an awesome flight. Please tell me your average speed during your flight, and how much did your plane cost? What you did is a dream of mine. I want to get my pilot's license but I don't have the cash.
The instructor here… winds were pretty strong in the wrong direction, the highway traffic under us was moving faster. We got anywhere from the mid 60s to the mid 90s ground speed. Was a slow ride, but a great trip with Sam.
Love the Tripe! My buddy has one and we’ve flown together for over 30 years. I’ve got a few videos of our trips on my channel, and they’re the ones with the highest view count. Maybe I’m not the only one who loves this plane
One of the little short wing airplanes that helped save Piper Aircraft from bankruptcy The Flying Milk Stool...... if you have an engine out, just fallow a brick to point of impact.
Great little plane for a starter. Just watch your gross weight on a hot day...knocked the pollen off the top of pine trees taking off after misjudging passenger weight.
Nice adventure. I bought my Tripacer, my first airplane in North Carolina about 50 miles from Kitty Hawk. Flew it home to New Mexico. Incredible airplanes. I am 70 now and just sold my tripacers (had two) a few months ago. One question, are you a satinist? I just saw your satanic horn hand gesture coming out of Nebraska. Anyway, hope you are still flying her. Fly as long as you can!
I'm late to this party but wanted to congratulate you on plane ownership. Looks like Jason was your auto-plot! I love the music and the way you stitched the video together.
This brought back memories. I owned a Piper Tri-Pacer with the 150 engine and a basic Navcom radio. I did enjoy flying it in Alberta, Canada. I sold it to a man who flew it up to Whitehorse, Yukon.
I had a 56 150hp Tri Pacer (Caribbean) N3804P for about 8 years, I too live in Wyoming, and I loved that plane! So much so that when I did sell it, my next plane was a converted 150hp Pacer (converted to a tail wheel from a tri-pacer) N3460A, loved that one too. The bug to go higher and faster kept biting so I have Piper Twin Comanche now which is great for traveling but not nearly as cost efficient at the Pacer or the Tri-Pacer. Two kinds of people when it comes to Tri-Pacers; those that love them and those that have never flown them! (Words of a buddy of mine, he was sooo right!)
