Dude thank you. I'm having an issue with my board not getting dark enough and I'm think I need to leave the stain on for way longer then recommended (at least an hour), but I'm afraid of it becoming tacky and messing it all up. Now I feel more confident that i can undo it but also get this damn thing to turn dark!
It worked! Leaving the stain on (for 5 - 6 hours) made MASSIVE difference, finally! I followed this technique to undo the tacky bits and after two attempts finally have a nearly matched look. I think poly or Danish oil will get me to a finally next. Thank you! @@jbsdiygarage
Hi. We used a white paint and primer and then stained our table. We found a great video on YT for that. The table was tacky, the minwax wood finish was used. We used the mineral spirits like you recommended and reapplied the wood stain. This was last night and the table is still tacky but not as much this time. I’m wondering if we didn’t leave enough time in between the mineral spirits and the stain we reapplied. I dont know what to do. I don’t want to sand it again. So do you think I didn’t leave enough time or is it possibly something else? Please help me
If you applied stain directly on top of paint, theres no where for the pigments to seep into the wood and allow the stain to dry. You'd be better off removing all of the stain with mineral spirits and then using a all-in-one polyshades mixture that has stain pigments mixed in with polyurethane so the stain/poly mixture will sit on top of the paint. Hope this helps!
@@jbsdiygarage hi. Thank you for responding. I need help on another recommendation. I bought the minwax polycrylic to top coat the table and chairs. In your opinion and experience is that a good topcoat for furniture? I am worried about scuffing mainly because the chairs are white. I mean I am worried about the table top too.
Thank you, your video was just what i needed to hear. I've been working on my stairs, a learning experience and work in progress. I have two steps that are tacky and didn't know how to fix the problem. I can now progress to the poly. 😊
THANK YOU! Your video & info just saved my exterior door. I’ve already put so much time into this as I had to stripe 8,000 layers of paint off of it. Thx again!!
Thank you for posting this advice! Like so many others, it worked for my issue. Just wanted to leave a comment to help the algorithm for others to find this, too.
