Apparently American democrats looked at this and thought it was a roadmap, not satire.

This was one of the earlier episodes. The first thing that struck me is how fast the actors spoke when delivering their lines. I think they gradually slowed down as the series, followed later by Yes Prime Minister, progressed. It needed to be a bit slower for the audience to catch all the jokes.

Perfect comedy, much of which is still frighteningly relevant. Sir Humphrey’s speeches highlighted the brilliance of Sir Nigel Hawthorne.

@Vincent I don’t know a national integrated database of the public’s information feels surprisingly relevant especially considering the controversies surrounding the UK care data scheme and their wider relevance for biomedical research from as recent as 2015.

I'm currently re-reading my aunt's hardback copy of Yes Minister. Must be the seventh or eighth time. I'm also lucky enough to have watched both shows in three countries. When enacted, the humour hits so much quicker and is so much ticklier, what with the actors' expressions and all.

I stumbled across a random comment elsewhere about this magnificent show and this is my first viewing. Very impressed! This is close to what we have in the U.S. but, we can waste more money AND screw over the workers at the same time.

Yes, change the playback speed to .75. Also, the screen ratio should be reduced, as mentioned, and the canned laughter made me stop watching what should have been an enjoyable show bu alas, t not so. I will watch something else.

Seeing Hacker loose his mind when Humphry tells him the long list of reasons as to why the staff are there, all the while ignoring that actually the real reason as to why there is no actual medical staff at the hospital is because of decisions made by other departments which he has no direct control over because the thought of him not being in control terrified him, is quite entertaining. He is like an ignorant glory-addicted child: he doesn't want to accept that he just doesn't want to take the time and effort to understand why the hospital isn't opened he only cares about what the simple-minded popular people who criticise him say, and so he stamps his feet in impatience and when it all comes back to bite him later on he panics.

I dimly remember reading that John Cleese was sounded out to play Humphrey. Back then, in my teens, I was a fan of Terry Thomas and thought that he too would have made a great Humphrey. And Norman Wisdom as Hacker? Delicious!

So it doesn't get detected by the RU-vid copywrong algorithms and taken down?
@DrAnne-mc8er
@DrAnne-mc8er 3 года назад
@@samsowden You mean there are *still* conspiracy theories floating around regarding _"Fair Usage Policy"_ under International Copyright Laws Sam? That's incredible! RU-vid stopped using *ALL* algorithms to detect illegal breaches of copyright, way back in May 2016, when the UK and US governments agreed to a joint fair use policy. Then I think Australia, Canada and Japan signed up to it next, followed eventually by the rest of the world with very few exceptions, most notably China, North Korea and some of the smaller African countries. All anyone has to do to comply these days, is acknowledge who owns the original copyright in the info beneath the video if known. In other words, avoid claiming it to be there own property. So you, I, or anyone else could upload full HD episodes of _"Yes Minister"_ to RU-vid *as long as* we acknowledge in the written blurb underneath, that the copyright of the material is still owned by the BBC. Sorry to be so long-winded, but I hope that's clarified things for you? Take care.
