What’s the best food for these little fellas? Found a baby one on the ground at the dog park, fell out of the nest. Going to call rspca tomorrow, took him to the vet and they said to call them. Got some worms for him and he loves it, being careful not to over feed.

Glyphosate? 🥴 it's a toxin for humans, gets everywhere in the water, air, ground... say thanks to companies as Monsanto for this one .. pls think twice before supporting these companies... it's an edible isnt it? Free food? Eat it?

I work in bush regeneration in SE QLD. We have acres of this stuff and it will be a never ending journey I guess. I have read online that they are easier to treat in the Blue Mountains/Sydney region as they grow different in a cooler climate. Any truth to this? Great job mate

Jim and Marty from NBC bush-care have quickly and effectively eradicated this weed outbreak. The site will need monitoring but this is a great outcome

To kill a madeira vine, scuff the surface of shoots and leaves and immediately spray with a glyphosate poison as they reseal after only twenty seconds. Took me years of fighting this tenacious invader to learn this.

I have a single butcherbird in the tree near front porch and after having his morning feed her he sings and sings...just delightful to sit on my porch and watch and listen. It's the simple things in life that makes each day worth living.

My gardener says the roots and nodules will pro -create, but this video says no ?
@PittwaterEcowarriors
@PittwaterEcowarriors Год назад
Your gardener is wrong. This plant regenerates from seeds in the red berries and from the the central corm (or fragments of it). The corm is the hard mass that the stems and roots emanate from. That's what you must dig out to stop regeneration. The roots and associated water sacs can be left in situ.

Not to my eye but my opinion doesn't matter. But letting the plant run wild does matter to the Australian landscape, think lantana, privet etc.

Great thing about this method is that whilst the concentration of herbicide is far higher than when using "traditional" spraying, the droplet size is much greater and therefore less prone to spray drift affecting non-target species. Haven't used it on Bitou, but it works a treat on Lantana. The ability to hit target plants up to 10m away means you can reach inaccessible areas. It also means not having to trample ground and impact other desirable natives.

An adjacent block has been cleared for development and of course the vine was coming onto our property. The development went ahead without consideration of what the monster would do. I am waiting for the new townhouses to get new topsoil and fertiliser as a result of landscaping - the vine will be out of control within days, it already is now.

Well spotted! Alan Hill's work with the entire South West Rocks Dune Care group is inspirational, their achievements magnificent. In my view (the editor) Alan's pioneering work and ethic is a model to save Australia. Others are coming same view it seems with Alan receiving an OAM in 2023.

These are the common myna birds of Australia, and should never be classified as an Indian myna bird . The Indian myna bird are a viral and dangerous introduced pest a serious threat to our rare native birds (rosellas and other parrots) whilst the common Australian myna bird is of a different colour - alert, smart native birds and very protective of their chicks and other native birds in their boundaries - they will even challenge Ravens to retreat pretty fast too and at the same time respect the Magpies in their territory.

Good day. I am in the second year of trialling a method to control Gloriosa Lily here on the Sunshine Coast. Over the past decade G.L. has run riot despite our Bushcare group religiously stripping seed pods at the start of each weeding season in March. In October/November 2021 the upshoot of G.L. was such that would have made any wheat farmer proud. Accordingly I marked off a 6000m2 section of Coastal Dune. Instead of waiting for the plant to flower and produce seed I trialled pruning the tips of the shoots when they got to about 500mm. A very light Ozito cordless edge trimmer made easy work of the task. I did a follow up in December on new shoots and any missed on the first run. Now in late January 23 I found the odd plant that I missed on my earlier runs had produced a flower which were easy to see and tip prune. My hope was that over 4 to 5 years the G.L. would wither as its rhizome did not receive sufficient food through process of dying back. To my surprise and satisfaction the G.L., although looking green, was still only that 500mm high and had no flowers nor seed pods and looked quite feeble. I expect over the ensuing couple of months it will shrivel away and when it returns next years will be that much weaker!!!!

The chicks make a constant, irritating peep sound, and the adults are bullies. They drive away other bird species from the garden, I will play this sound track very loudly outside to confuse the adults - it does work here in Brisbane. They do have to be culled, though.

Excellent video - many thanks. The western Yarra River corridor in Abbotsford, inner Melbourne where my organisation is conducting long-term rehabilitation works, is soaked in Madeira Vine. We are not quite ready to get to the difficult canopy infestation in this steep, highly degraded terrain, but this video has been a great refresher and reinforcer.
