Bought one of these; one of the internal stick pockets was barely sewed and the sticks felt after a little while. Went back and got another exactly the same. The second one holds the stick, but the upper zipper does not open fully because it’s sewed at one point. So the design is nice but the QC is crap.
Closest demo I have heard to the one I have. Kinda eerie. 😂 mine is apparently 2400 grams. I always wondered if they threw it in the wrong pile and was supposed to be a heavy ride.
I had the opportunity to try them in a music store in my city and I didn't like them. I ended up taking some from the same brand but from the same series.
The 13x7" PDP Chad Smith Acrylic is my favourite of the three versions. When tuned low, it sounds deeper and fuller to me while still having a strong attack. Despite the acrylic shell of this snare (which I like to call my "plastic drum"), the tones sound surprisingly woody. I would love to see drummers doing "blind tests" with these and other drums to see if they could spot the differences by just listening. I believe the 13x7 is the most versatile of the three and useful for a wider variety of genres because it can still be tuned high for bebop jazz, reggae and funk, as well as lower for rock, etc. There is also an impressive dynamic range: it's not only capable of being "Chad Smith Loud" but also pleasing at lower volumes, with ghost notes, buzz rolls and rim shots easily produced at all levels. The matching clear heads look good but, of course, are too smooth for normal brush work. There are 16 individual tuning lugs on the 13x7, because of the depth, compared to the double-ended PDP dual-turret lugs on the 12x6, which has 6 lugs, and the 14x6, which has 10 lugs. The 13x7, like the other two, has 6mm thick shells with 45 degree bearing edges. The chrome plated triple-flanged hoops are 2.5mm thick. They all have the lovely DW designed MAG throw-off, which is a dream to use with the stock 20-strand snare wires. Unfortunately, these PDP Chad Smith Acrylic snare drums are no longer available, which I find strange because I'm sure a lot of drummers would like at least one of them.
From this series you could say that perhaps I would only take the ride cymbal and although it is not shown in this video the 18 China Dark S also has a good one, but although there are people who have commented that they like the Hi Hat, believe me, I have tried them and They really sound ugly, they feel very light and are extremely thin.
They have HCS brass and they have HCS bronze now. I don't know why they didn't just rename it. They both sound good, but I would go for bronze for the durability! I also have the HCS brass ride that came with a kit, it's a little hand custom hammered but still sounds good for light music like practice.
Love youre sound mate great playing ' i just got one of these - no plans to use it as a ride though Crash only i reckon ' bell has no promenance at all on these
