I don't speak guinea pig, but I am willing to bet that if the pig could talk, it would probably say, "STOP GRAPING ME". Guinea pigs are like cats, they really don't wanna be bothered, but of course, emotionally unfulfilled people need to get their emotional needs met through an animal that wants nothing to do with them.
Eh, it's not happy. I can assure you as a piggie-guy. It's a sign of concern. When guinea pigs get territorial they climb up other guinea pigs back. It's an instinct for them to vibrate whenever they get uncomfortable or you rub their back. Just, don't.
@@Chilov3 It's extremely rare for guinea pigs to actually bite. They will run if they can, but they will freeze if they feel they can't get away and will make warning sounds. If you just pet higher on the head she may like it. One of mine is okay with going further down her body like that, but my other one will only handle the top of her head and ears being scratched.
I don’t think your guinea pig is very happy, I heard that apparently a guinea pig doesn’t like whenever you stroke the bottom part of the guinea pig it doesn’t like it
This does NOT mean they are happy. Guinea pigs dominate each other by mounting and poking at each other's butts. You can see that the pig only starts chattering when you pet all the way to their butt. They don't like this. When I pet my guinea pigs, they lie down (with their head resting on my leg) and I can see their eyes slowly start to close. This is the ultimate sign of trust. GPs are prey animals, and typically sleep with their eyes open to watch for predators. So closing their eyes means they feel so safe and secure when I pet them. I only ever pet from their nose to halfway down their body, and it takes a lot of time and patience to gain this much trust.
Guinea pigs can also like scratches behind the ears and under the chin! But under the chin is a controversial one, only one of my pigs (of 3) likes it. All three rumble at me when I get too close to the butt. Never pet them there.
Still not sure about people saying that this is a sign of happiness. I had over 20 piggies by now and they never did that in comfortable situations. They do it after being scared by loud noises, at the vet, being pet while eating and being touched in a special spot at the flank like the guine pig in this video. I'm really sure it's not a happy noise but a noise of concern.
That is called either purring or rumbling, and for my guinea pigs, it meant they didn't like what you were doing/were getting annoyed with you and were warning you to back off before they have to bite. For other piggies, it's their way of expressing pleasure. It apparently varies based on the piggy's personality!
This isn't a purr, it's a chutter, my pigs have only done this in a new and threatening situation - almost always accompanied by being frozen and alert.
I’m pretty sure this means the guinea pig is mildly agitated. It may be the way you are stroking him/her. My guinea pigs often make this noise at each other when one is trying to steal food from the other or trying to steal their hidey. They also sometimes make this noise at me when I stroke them in a way they feel is me asserting my dominance, this is usually them trying to tell you ‘I am the dominant one, leave me alone please’.
My FiFi does this alot I'm glad she happy I thought she was getting cold or coming down with something. My other Guinea pig Mimi is not that comfortable with me yet but maybe she will me some 🙂
It can me their are angry or happy. If you pet their butt they will purr like this too, because that is a sign of dominance, but they also do it when they are super happy
Is it a higher pitched purr like this or a deep rumble? A deep rumble is called a growl and from what I've read it means the guinea pig is usually annoyed or angered. This one here seems to be a happier purr.
Nevermind I'm stupid. Edit: (Probably should've originally edited my first comment to make this less confusing. Oh well. We were both right. Their purrs have multiple meanings. Sometimes they do it when their scared (for instance, whenever I accidentally make a really loud noise, my guinea pig will purr.) or other times they'll do it when they're happy like cats.
I made a video on channel..and it was about my guinea pig..and I couldn't figure out the sound he was making was a happy sound or a upset sound..so if you can and want to and if you know what sound he is making can you tell me? Thank you!
Kinda does sound like that rumble strutting noise. My guinea pig did this to me once. When i was cuddling him :/. But minus the noise. He just vibrated. & Hes the more talkitive one too. He went night night. The other ones just doing his thing, staring... I miss their morning jogs. Sigh
lol, when you usually pet their behind, (the area you kept petting) it actually means they’re frightened or uncomfortable, however they also purr when they might be discovering something new. But, that type of purr means your guinea pig is uncomfortable, since you’re petting it’s behind.
To everyone saying that this means happy and how they purr! No it does not, they are basically telling you to leave them alone or else 😂😂 I have 9 guinea pigs and I adore all of them. So do NOT tell me i am wrong because I know I am not because I think I can handle/ look after them myself thx! If you stroke your guinea pigs fur backwards they will make this noise, if your stress them out and want to be alone they will make this sound. This sound is a distressed noise it does NOT mean happy and calm ok! If you have any questions ( I mean any) just ask away 😃😆 please do not tell me different because if you search it up and scroll down for a bit it will tell you :) or go on “what makes guinea pigs stressed” and it should tell you there.
My guinea pigs are so opposite. *My American breed* Quiet, adventurous guy. Doesn't enjoy cuddles. Not hesitant for when I reach in for pets. Greets me more often, seems more aware. Seems protective & patient over the other one at times. Is more of a picky eater & loves bananas. Can smell them from a distance & it's one of the few times he's loud. Only popcorns when I pet him, when I clean the cage, other random things. Wants to be out in the open more often. Does his chinning higher. *Peruvian* eats anything I feed him. That's appropriate, of course. Is loud & meaner to the other one. Always wants to butt hump. But runs to him when scared. The other one grooms him. Is more skittish, & seems more afraid. Seems to popcorn just to be pop corning. Enjoys cuddles, is patient w/ bath time. Runs away for when I reach in for pets more often :/. Hides more often. Why r they always putting their butts in my face? Bc they trust me that much &/ they think I smother them w/ too many kisses? Also, do guinea pigs get jealous of each other? They completely seem to put up fronts to each other.
