Great to see another video Luke! Those were some brutal hiking statistics 😅😅 Highly recommend trying out some via ferrata in the Dolomites!! I've absolutely loved it, exciting in a different way to summiting big mountains 🧗‍♀️

I want to take my girls (10 and 12) on the hike from route number 10 and take the cable car down. I work out everyday so I feel fit. My 12 year old has a warrior's heart. I am wondering if it will be too difficult for my 10 year old. They had no issue in the Dolomites (Tre Cime) but that was only 2700 meters. I climbed Mt Evans on my bike decade plus ago at 4300 meters so I understand how the difficulty of breathing will progress while also battling fatique over 5-6 hours hiking. We hike every Sunday (8-13 km) but it is all flat and sea level. I know it is hard to give your opinion, but how hard would it be (we aren't starting at the sea)? Does the smell of sulfur make the breathing much harder? I think we would be starting near the parking near where the cable car is. We would take that down.
@Luke_Duggan
@Luke_Duggan Месяц назад
Hey - for me I found the breathing noticeably harder above 3000m. I think in my case this was more a function of the 25km I had in the legs prior to this and the dehydration and poor fuelling etc. Given you guys would be starting higher up the mountain you’d certainly be fresher and you’d be able to pace it out to the top with suitable fuel and water. Make sure to get a summit pass and of course check the time the cable car closes ;). It also sounds like you’re all incredibly fit so should have no challenge in my mind doing this - providing you take it steady and listen to your bodies. The smell was fine and not an issue at all - however this may have been offset by how we smelled haha.

Thanks! Ha, does this mean I’m now an influencer!? I see you’ve posted a video about Toubkal - I’ll give it a watch see how it looks this time of year, great place hey. Kilimanjaro was excellent, but I think I downplayed the impact of altitude on me in the video. We recorded that intro about 6x! But I’d definitely recommend it. Amazing part of the world.

@@Luke_Duggan I give you permission to adopt the title 😂 Well as you'll see in the video, the conditions weren't quite as we were expecting, but still amazing! Altitude sickness is definitely a concern, but I think you did one of the shorter routes? Maybe I should consider a longer one. Also interested in Everest Base Camp but apprehensive for the same reason!
@Luke_Duggan
@Luke_Duggan 5 месяцев назад
We did yes and it’s considered the easiest route because of the huts and it’s quite short. I still can’t say if how I felt was due to the malaria tablets, the altitude or the D&V… so I need to do another higher one! Peak Lenin would be cool. Everest Base camp looks like an excellent trek, and it’s quite affordable…

Cheers! Certainly, we started at 0900 on Playa Del Socorro. We arrived at the summit for 1630 and the cable car for 1745, it then took us about another 2hrs to jog down to the car park ( where we had managed to arrange for a taxi to meet us. If I were to do it again I’d triple check the cable car times. take a bit more food in case of any incidents and also take some ibuprofen to stave off the headache from the altitude that’s quite common given the rate of ascent. We drank 1L per 500m so definitely be sure to carry a lot of water also. Good luck and enjoy it, it is very beautiful.

Hello! Yes, I’d absolutely recommend reaching out to Mitja actually, he was excellent - knows the mountain like the back of his hand and goes at whatever pace you want. Not sure on conditions in April but worth reaching out to Mitja for sure. I filmed this on a GoPro hero 7 black and a Nikon Z5 and the 3D camera was a Insta360 X3.

Great video. Thanks for taking the efforts of filming! I'm hoping to do it in March-April 2024. Is it common to have snow on the route at this time of the year? I'm really surprised that your guide made you climb down that exposed snowy route without crampons and ice axe!
@Luke_Duggan
@Luke_Duggan 6 месяцев назад
Hello! We did it on the 23rd of April and you can see there is some snow, according to our guides at the time this is typical. When we climbed down we were wearing crampons, and we had poles to arrest in case we slipped. I think the wide lens of the GoPro also exaggerates the gradient perhaps! Don’t get me wrong it is steep but not dangerously so, in my opinion. Have a great time sir!

I liked that in the video you said that it was challenging and "you have to be ready for it and train for it", because nowadays you hear less and less of that from people who conquer the top of the mountain - they just recommend it because they loved it so much, but they forget the fact how deadly mountains can be if you are not mentally and physically prepared, especially in Slovenia, where (too) many accidents occur every year. It's nice to see responsible foreigners who get a guide for such a climb. Congratulations on summiting! Greetings from Slovenia! :)

If you haven't been any higher than Triglav, I recommend you Mont Blanc, to see and feel some altitude. Kilimandzaro is to expensive for just 10 days of hiking. About 4000€ per person. After Mont Blanc you can try peak in Kirgisistan called Pik Razdelnaya. Only 50m above camp 3 on 6100m. This is also the track to Pik Lenin 7134m. With appropriate Acclimatization you'll need 12 days to the 6150m and back to the city and airport. Costs: around 1600€ all inclusive.

Thanks! I only really have January free, and so I’m quite limited on where to go. I would love to do Mont Blanc and Lenin Peak at some stage in my life. Hopefully I can record it and put it up here. I’m thinking Kilimanjaro, because I can combine it with a safari perhaps. Plus there’s a few good last minute deals about. Highest I’ve been Toubkal - again a hike but went up to 4,200m where I could feel the altitude a bit. There’s a video of that if you’re interested! Cheers.

Beautiful video, great weather and visibility! 👌 When I loaded my RU-vid page now you were up there among the recommendations so I decided to check it out. Looks like algorithm knows I like hiking and Julian Alps (of course) and sometimes works even for small creators haha It just needs to be stated that this obviously early winter ascent, or more precisely even late autumn (although feels like winter of course), without much snow. Soon it will become much more demanding, when snow covers it all, and rocks, hand rails, pegs and steel ropes disappear. Then it becomes 70° sheer snowy side, which is only for experienced climbers
@Luke_Duggan
@Luke_Duggan 8 месяцев назад
Thanks! And yes very definitely an early winter climb. I’ve seen some of the photos of the summit in peak winter and the Aljaž Tower is totally buried in snow. Must be a crazy climb when it’s like that.
@mitjasorn8410
@mitjasorn8410 7 месяцев назад
Hi @AleksandarGospic The main thing that changes in winter with more snow is the approach till the hut. It can be more dangerous becaouse of avalancehs and it is more chalenging, as the snow covers the valley also. It means you fall through the snow more plus the approach is 1,5 hours longer(valley floor) in each direction. The top of Triglav doesn't change much through the winter, as the snow gets blown of. What you see on the video stays more or less the same thruout the all winter. Maybe some more cables get covered on the approach till small Triglav, the ridge cables are more or less out. The whole tower and cables get covered in May, when the snow that falls is wetter and sticks on the ridge. And it never gets 70° steep, if you take out your phone and messure the inclination you see it is never much over 50°, but the exposure gives you the feeling of sheer drop😃 Regards, Mitja, guide from the movie
