My name is G and welcome to my Channel Big Grizzly Outdoors! I am rekindling my love of the outdoors after a 16 year absence where I traveled all over the UK and Europe as a keen Rock Climber specializing in Multi Pitch routes. However after I retired from hanging from my fingers I found myself caught up in the rat race and focused on my career in sales. In 2018 I suffered a head injury at home which left me Epilepsy and after a two year recovery period I find myself again back in the outdoors and learning lots of new skills. So if you like me are a lover of the great outdoors and camping then follow me on my journey as I discover how to set up shelters, light fires, cook on open flame and genuinely just experience the Great Outdoors.
If you want to keep up to date with all things Big Grizzly then why not check out the Big Grizzly web page where you see what gear I use and catch up on my Blog! biggrizzlyoutdoors.com/
Great video and outing! amazingly I have collected a very similar kit. Nice to see the Savotta Finnish Defense Forces mat in use. It kept me alive for a year in the service. Same exact Carinthia D4 bag for me. And I've just bought the Snugpak SF bivvy in XL size. I'll try that up in the mountains when it gets colder. But based on your comments if it doesn't really work on its own, I can revert back to my Dutch army hooped bivy that's similar to your MSS in this video, being 3-layer goretex laminated.
I have the MSR Windburner which uses the same technology, that is an integrated wind screen and radiant heat burner. Not only do I heat my water efficiently I am able to cook eggs and bacon right on a skillet without burning them. Also after removing the skillet or water pot I use the radiant burner as a local (in well ventilated areas)heater. Warming my hands and face for a couple of minutes because of the infrared energy like hot red coals in a fire to do it. Obviously I figure in how much fuel I want to expend for this function.
It's a Eureka TCOP Tent, US military, you can pick them up on eBay. There are a couple more videos of then tent on the channel if you wanted a deeper dive. Thanks for watching, Atb G🐾
So Luke, misread your question, it has a heavy duty fly, probably the heaviest fly I've seen on a tent ever. The inner has very little netting. In fact there is no light leakage at all when looking from the outside, I guess that's a military thing? The whole kit is heavy for a 1 person tent, it's over 3kgs!
Whoa your pace was epic! Congratulations, a pb as well. Huge effort. How long did it take you to build up to this kind of distance, weight and time? Thanks for making this video 👍
I'm not sure really, I started rucking in the November, did the Fan Dance in June, then the Marathon the following April so I would a year to 18 months. If you're interested then a lot of what happened and in what time frame is in my book! bravogolfoscar.com/what-the-ruck-book
Hiya i have just subscribed. I am relatively new to tabbing. Really enjoyed this video cant wait to watch your other videos. Thanks for making it. Sam from Yorkshire 👍
Hey Sam, thanks for watching! And welcome to Tabbing! There are a few videos on the channel that may help This one maybe a good place to start! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BeiMZ6KoaUg.htmlsi=fk15vUmyBuef5o-M This one was a 20 mile tab! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M3o8ECHrJiQ.htmlsi=GCAOWK9R4v-ZjlAt I was also recently on the Debrief Podcast with former SAS Trooper Big Phil Campion, which you may want to check out!!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bxHgrI8jLQs.htmlsi=Jh1S3BHiFi0MEujw Atb G🐾
New viewer and sub'd. I recently ordered an un-issued TCOP. Not a stealth camper but wanted a tent that wasn't mountaineering orange. When I was in the Marines, we had shelter halves! I intend to mark the "shorter" pole. Next, set it up in the yard and check the seams. Straight forward review. Really looking forward to using this tent. Impressed with your video library.
Hi Casey, glad you enjoyed the video! I've the TCOP for quite a while now and still enjoy using it! Maybe check out this video of the tent in some harsher weather! Atb G🐾 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D0bcpqZn6g8.htmlsi=Eny6LlURNUFx_RGt
Hi G found your channel from reading your book great book by the way nearly finished it 👌 can I ask what the danner tachyon are like size wise been looking at them but I have quite a wide foot so I sure to stick with a 12uk or go for a 13 ? If you can help with any advice that would be great. Stay safe and keep not giving a ruck 💪
Hi Craig! Glad you're enjoying the book!!!! I found the sizing to be pretty accurate, I too have a wide foot. As you would have seen from the video I lace them up to take this into consideration. Danner however do a wide fit in the Tachyons and may try the wider fit. Thanks again, all the best G 🐾
Wow can't believe I've found this, I've always been a bit perplexed about folk raving about gel stoves. I was using the Swiss gel stove throughout my british army career during the late 80s, 90s it fitted perfectly in your pouch, making a brew in a jiffy. Happy days
Hi! Firstly...thank you for your service! Glad you enjoyed the vid, thanks for watching. Maybe consider subscribing, there's of vids which should take you back to your Ar.y day! Atb G🐾
Hexamine has been deemed illegal to own or use in the UK now guys, penalty up to two years in prison. I am switching back to alcohol stoves, annoying but needs must.
Hi! I've not actually done the West Highland Way yet so can't really compare. With regards midges, if you avoid late spring and summer and plan you hike mid to late autumn you should avoid the midges. Thanks for watching Atb G🐾
It's all weather dependent, if Scotland has a hot dry summer, then yes it could be miserable, however if its mild, wet and a bit windy it won't be so bad.
RU-vids algorithm brought me here after watching loads of 'kent survival' 'east anglian bushcraft' etc. Loving your videos.....theyre works of art !!! Just subbed. Great stuff 😊 👍
Hi Oscar, thanks for the sub! I've been a bit slack with vids recently as I have been promoting my book bravogolfoscar.com/what-the-ruck-book . But hang in there more are on the way. Atb G🐾
This video is a couple of years old now. I've actually done the Fan Dance twice. And yes, I did get woken in the night after with horrendous cramps! If you're intersection I have a book out about my journey, from head injury to Tabbing the London Marathon. bravogolfoscar.com/what-the-ruck-book
Ive just been using meths in this cooker without a trangia or fire rope or anything. Is that a no no?? I've found that filling the little cup in the base will happily boil a full 750ml pot of water.... which is all I want really!?
A stove should be able to heat water, cook food, and use different pot/pans, this stove is a one trick pony that is heavy & expensive. Its a rubbish stove, poor value for money.
I agree overpriced just like jet boil save yourself 300 dollars and go buy a 50 dollar widesea cook kit with jetboil unit there awsome and just as fast if not faster
Just going over from the start of your you Tube journey you have come along way Big G and you have inspired many people me being one of them its amazing what you have achieved since this recording much love....Dean...🤝
@@bravogolfoscar nice! I consider buying this tent, but have recently noticed that its width at both ends is 55 cm. I am wondering if it is possible to squeeze a 64 cm sleeping pad into it, or the pad will protrude too much. What do you think?
T ent C ombat O ne P erson Love mine Best tent I've ever used or seen . Subbed Great video .. Am not wanting the giveaway prize , just wanted you to use the correct description.
