Not true!!! I've had standing ovations at venues and the venue never booked me again!! Waitresses were jealous cuz I got all the tips!! Venue owner hid the whole dam night!!!
@@SimonMorelguitar not true, they won't book me!!! I tried!! I can even show you their compliments on my gig, venue owners are horrible!! I hope they all shut down
@@rickgrebenikpuggles56 Hmmmm, not sure I agree with you here Rick. Musos need venues. I appreciate there are good and bad ones. Whatever happens with the rebooking or on the night from the venues point of view, as long as we're always the best version of ourselves when we go play a show, you can leave with your head held high. Just go book a show somewhere else!
@@SimonMorelguitar I can't find anywhere else, they won't let me, even for donation and tips!!! Asked hundreds of venues!!! No replys!!!! I perform pro level to,that's insult from these trash venue owners, hope they all close down!!!! Ha ha!!
Sorry, but this is a 2 & 4 skank which is the ON BEAT (the quarter notes of a 4/4 rhythm) and should ALWAYS be played with a DOWNSTROKE like you switched to at 5:10 for a bit in this video. Notice how much better that sounds. This is because it is a reggae skank, NOT a ska skank. It won't ever sound right playing it with upstrokes. When playing ska you are moving your hand at at the exact same rate but playing the upstrokes on the & of 1, & of 2, & of 3, & of 4... for that you play the UPSTROKES
Thanks for the note John, appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Thanks for the detailed explanation of 4/4 time. I'm playing this on the offs here, so a bar consists of 2 strikes of Cm then 2 strikes of G7-9. If you counted it as 2 bars, one of Cm and one of G7-9 then the chords fall of 2 and 4 and I would play downstrokes. As a full-time guitar player I get booked for all sorts of shows and have to learn all sorts of repertoire, so insights like this are very helpful. I'll rejig the chart, so the chords fall on on the 2 and 4 (and thus downbeats) at the next gig. All the best Simon
Ooooh!!! Stoked that you're tackling this ripper. An 80's surf movie classic that was on my 'unplayable' list since I was a teenager. Looking forward to this one!
Thank you for this lesson. I saw her concern at Woodstock East Stage on RU-vid and I knew I wanted to proclaim her song genuinely on my acoustic. So thank you kind sir. Great lesson. Do you have an app or tutoring on a smart device at all.
Hi there, thanks for watching, I'm glad I was able to help. I don't have an app, but I do use Guitar Pro to write tabs/charts (www.guitar-pro.com/#ae483). Is that what you mean? I also have a subscription service over at Patreon.com/simonmorel - there you can get charts and extra lessons. Hope that helps, all the best Simon
I was researching Ultra noiseless pickups as I was planning to buy some to put on my strat. But oh boy did this take a turn. I guess a pair of Vintage '57's is the only option now.
@@suncat5160 I don't get it, but I like it! Check out the full lesson at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rFMm8A7accw.htmlsi=SV3Oqr5mGCGxCZIZ Thanks for watching
Hi Kerry, thanks for watching. Both versions are in the same key and follow the same form. The only difference is that the Otis version plays the second riff starting from G an octave higher. Here's the link to the chart - www.patreon.com/posts/my-girl-guitar-67831699 - all the best, Simon
@@SimonMorelguitar Thanks for the quick reply. I just joined your Patreon. I appreciate your explanation as to the Otis Redding version. I play Electric, Acoustic, Bass and Baritone guitars. Started learning late at 58 and I am 63 now, this last year has been great with my skill level improvement.
@@kerryfromaj9032 Welcome to Patreon. There are a number of Otis lessons there. Just search 'Otis Redding' in the search bar. Thanks for the support. Cheers Simon
Studying the original song (and Neil Finn's solo version) I found it interesting that at the end of verse 1 there are 2 bars of F immediately before the chorus, but at the end of verse 2 there is only 1 bar.
Hi Ben, that sounds like a Neil Finn sort of thing. He does a lot of that Beatles tricks, short bars, cut bars etc. Thanks for watching this old video! Cheers Simon
Hi there, sorry don't quite get what you mean here? All what? You can see the second fret capo right? If you don't want to use a capo and can play barre chords, here's another free lesson for you (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7wGuAsVSp3g.html). Hope that makes sense. Cheers Simon
@@SimonMorelguitar I have no problem with the capo, its just that you do not even mention that you are using it. I only noticed half way through the tutorial.
@@fishureman Fair enough, then can I suggest that this isn't the song for you. Try this instead (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B7nv_g2ORtY.html), fewer chords and as you improve you can play 'extra' bits.
