Did you and your classmates purchase the same study material? For my school we were given options. Some of my classmates purchased Student RDH and I purchased Dental Hygiene Seminar. We ended up referencing each other’s material. Some subjects were dense and some subjects were superficial. Same goes for practice questions. Similar but different. I’m grateful we were able to share material and practice each others tests. We all passed in our cohort. But I would like to know for future reference what book is the best for recommendations for future aspiring DH?
Hi ,i want to take.my National Board , but I am based overseas, how do i prepare?. Am.an oversea dentist coming to the usa to wlrk as hygienist. What text do i use . Please help a beginner . Thanks
I took the NDHBE on 3/23/24. I used Dental Hygiene Seminar and passed. A lot of my classmates purchased Student RDH and also passed. We also used the Andy RDH app for practice tests. There’s lots of practice tests out there to help you build stamina for the amount of questions. Keep in mind Dental Hygiene Seminar and Student RDH are pricey BUT WORTH IT.
I feel like all classes are hard LOL but this class was not too bad! I would say this is the one class that didn't have a lot of contents because the most important things to know is the types of anesthetics and technique. it's very important to know the contraindications as well.
I wouldn’t say that we make more than nurses. We definitely are on the same pay range as nursing and it does depend on the state you work for. I think one of the pros is the work life balance is def better! But I do recommend this career and if you do end up pursuing it, I hope you like it and goodluck!
I have passed my national board. I am scheduled to take my clinical exam on Oct 21 for adex but I just took the conputer stimulated exam with prometrics for Adex and I failed that exam. I am scared because if I fail prometrics 3 times then I will have to take my hands on clinical exam again. Do you have any tips for the prometrics exam ? Did you use Andy's rdh or dental tease ? I used that to study for the national board but I haven't heard of dental tease.
You do such a good job im 24 debating over dental or nursing. Recently I have been interested in dental because its more layed back and I like 1:1 care.
Thank you!! That was definitely me my senior year of high school! Majority of my family are register nurses so maybe I could do a video with them to compare the two professions.
Hi! Thanks so much :) I posted my note template on this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9C5Re_Nhkcc.htmlsi=yFUMu7sXNnBCXQ5Z hope this helps!
the two most popular ones are from StudentRDH and AndyRDH A less expensive review is CrackNBDHE nbdhe.com/boardprep/9805/ you can use my code ‘GWEN 10’ for 10% off If you are interested!
these are my must haves in my kit - EXD11/12 explorer, Barnhart 5/6 currette, Nevi 4 posterior scaler, Nevi 2 anterior scaler. I need to have fat instrument handles or my fingers cramp up working 5 days. For SCRP kits - I need to have all the gracy's lol. People have different opinions on this, but I buy all of my instruments myself because I like what I like and I like to sharpen often. I have severe work OCD so I can't function if someone over sharpens or misplaces my tools. =/ So to avoid all this, I just buy all my stuff.
If I’m currently a junior in undergrad (general biology track) would I still need dental hygiene school? Or could I go straight into working in a dental office as a dental hygienist once I graduate?
Hey Gewn! I’m entering my first semester of DH school in August 2023 and have been bingeing your videos. What school did you go to? Thanks for the videos. They are a great resource!
My school only offered orascoptic so that’s the loupes I have only tried and used. I still use my loupes from school because I’m only a year out of school and they’re expensive so I’ll make them last as much as possible LOL. I do like them they have different styles and options depending on your preferences!
Did you get an associates or bachelors? If you don’t mind me asking I’m debating on taking an accelerated 18 month program or if I should get a bachelors
I got my associates last year and started working :) but I actually finished up my bachelor’s just this month!! I wanted to get my bachelor’s in case I ever want to dive into other non-chair side parts of dental hygiene but you certainly do not need a bachelors to work chair side
Yes it is! The second part are the case studies. Personally, I think that the first half was the hardest compared to case studies! Case studies are something I’ve always been good at cause I tried to imagine as if I actually had a patient.
@@ssweeting1 on my most recent upload, I talked about how I studied for any exams and even for boards!! I even give specific examples on how I personally succeeded and what NOT to do as well :)
I’m a dental assistant and I make minimum $30hr, RDH always have to sit and wait while the dentist choose who they will see first and forget you need an exam after you leave a note in their operatory, which makes you more on go and rushing that’s where the higher pay will come in play top tier here I will not be used I give an amazing dental experience! Thank you for sharing
@@amorknox937 No I put what I would like on my profile I have great reviews and reliable so that plays a big part but a lot of assistants average that in my area through temping.
So cool if you don’t mind what state do u stay in ? I’m in Detroit Michigan Is it work the just doing dental Assitant rather than going for a hygienist ?
I work for an office that still pays me even if my patient cancelled or no show. BUT, be aware that there are other offices that do not pay you for cancellations and no show. There’s even offices who will not pay you after the whole hour is done and you’re still working on your patient. I strongly suggest asking this question to the employer on ever interview.
I knowww! But honestly I’m glad tho because all the information is fresh!! My school’s statistics showed that students who took it later had a higher chance of retaking it. I felt like I was not prepared at all, I don’t think I would have ever felt prepared but I highly recommend you taking it asap!
@@gwenfarrales yes our professors say not to take it later than august, we graduate in May. I'm planning for late July fingers crossed. You still work in CT?
I go to University of Hawai’i @ Manoa and our professors recommend us to take it before or during our last semester. I used Dental Hygiene Seminar to study for the NDHBE. I ended up taking ADEX for the clinical performance exam. I just got all 3 of my results just a few days ago and PASSED all😭🤩
Congrats!! So excited for youu! Yes, just because you’re a new grad doesn’t mean you’re any less valuable to ANY dentist. I feel like you’re more valuable because of the fresh/new knowledge you have straight out of school. Good luck🥰🥰
There’s two instruments that I can never work without! It’s either anterior or posterior sickle scaler and the hu friedy sickle scaler 204S. For heavy patients I live to use the anterior curette cause it’s more comfortable for patients around gum lines. Idk what it is but I don’t think I’m a universal type of gal 😭 I hope that helps!!
Hey thanks for the video. Im thinking of becoming a male RDH from New Zealand. When you graduate from school, can you work in other states? how does that work? thanks
Yess you can work in other states! Some states do have more requirements than others. You may need to take extra tests to be licensed in doing nitrous and other things. Depending on the state!
