You should NEVER use a knife to pry the edge of the wood glue, just use a fucking wood toothpick.

I would be willing to give this a go, provided that i can purchase Tite Bond glue in Canada ? However, i would not recommend using a utility knife or any other sharp object to remove the glue. Instead, try placing strips of construction paper or perhaps duct tape to aid in removing dry glue. On another note... do not try Elmers or LaPage glue as these types will not dry like Tite Bond. They will leave your record in a right mess. Your dollar bin album will go straight to the trash.

I basically due the same thing except I just use my finger to apply it. And I honestly never run into the problem you have where you're picking glue off the edge, just don't apply it too close to the edge and you're good 👍🏼 this method is the best I've found but I'd say it's mandatory to wet clean afterwords. Also creates lots of static!

People use wood glue because it's cheaper than a dedicated vinyl cleaning gel and not because it's better. Or they dont know about record cleaning gels. You pay your money and take your chances. I personally use Winyl pro gel record cleaner because it's brilliant at cleaning older and well used vinyl and I care a lot about my records. One tip, if you do use wood glue put a tab of paper hanging over the edge of the record as it helps to start the peeling and removal of said glue.

This kinda stuff drives me nuts. I have a large vinyl collection that I started back in 1973. It was sitting in the attic for 20 years until I decided to buy a new turntable on my retirement and bring the vinyl out of storage. I started watching YT videos for advice on what turntable would be suitable. I was shocked to discover the industry that had grown around "cleaning" and "caring" for vinyl. Most of what I saw horrified me. Slathering PVA wood glue, WD40, Washing up liquid, machines that cost thousands of dollars with silly names and the most bonkers- placing vinyl in a domestic oven to fix warps- a special electric blanket type device for the same- or placing your vinyl between 2 plates of glass and leaving it out in the sun!!!!! I wonder, what on earth are people doing to their records that require these aggressive interventions? Buying vinyl from 2nd hand stores or "thrift'/charity shops not knowing where they came from- YIKES! After 20 years of careful storage my vinyl only required a light brush before playing- perfectly. The very thought of trying any of these wacko ideas sets my teeth on edge. I would Never let any record that had been exposed to such treatment anywhere near my turntable- I value it and my cartridge too much to cause irreparable damage.

I have a lot of lps too and if I clean them they don't pop or click. You don't have to go crazy. Lps just play better after cleaning. Just don't use wood glue.

can you lift the glue up with a piece of tape instead?
@bedouga
@bedouga 10 месяцев назад
Good question! I don't think "regular" tape, like Scotch, would provide enough pulling power. tape That would be sticky enough would probably leave unwanted residue behind on the vinyl itself. This is all speculation, I haven't tested it myself but would guess it to be the outcome.

Put a little dot of glue at the edge and there's no need for a knife.

Do not use fuckin wood glue on your records. It is the slowest, messiest, and least efficient method to cleaning any LP. Just get a spin clean or some knock off, or even better, a vacuum machine. So much risk and time with this dumbass method.
