@@bstrippy1664 My second home 😀spent many years out near long buckby and many nights out as a young lad in town lol, im back in London now but will try to get up sometime and visit family and stop by for a bird👍🏻
Thing is if you sell to a shop, it’s just a different means to the same end. It just distances you from the moral dilemma of who is going to ultimately keep the bird.
I would love to get one your budgie and give it a home, to keep Rocky company, but I don't drive ,but may I ask, would a finch keep him company & do they eat same food, just asking I'm not a robot lol
They get on 90% of the time…. But not advised just 2 birds together…. They pretty much eat the same (aviary mix) seed and leave the same stuff from it… it has a mix that budgies, canaries and finches eat… that with treats such as millet spray cucumber.. eggs etc… they do eat pretty much the same.
@@bstrippy1664 thank you for advice, funny when you want a budgie you can't find for love or money, took me ages 4 years ago to find someone selling, might just keep him on he's own
Nice surprise when you finally get one you bred yourself, I’ve had a black cheek black breast this year as both parents carried bc , dads a black breast split black cheek and mums split bb and bc , I still haven’t bred a chestnut flanked white bc yet , that’s a work in progress lol
Why don't you put a gazebo curtain on the front of avery I do with mine, just pull it at night. I have 13 budgies all from the same mum and dad, mu granddaughters won't let me sell any so out come the nesting box's , I have finches soon as they nest the budgies wreck them.
My budgies don’t wreck the finches nests they wrecked the boxes before the finches nest but I’ve never destroyed a nesting nest if you know what I mean
I only sell mine using online sites , pets4homes , preloved and freeads . I prefer to meet the people my birds go too and if going to be kept in the home I want to know the cage size is suitable and I can also give the person hatch dates and preventative treatment dates and advice on supplements which pet shop staff lack the knowledge off. Being in pet shops can be quite stressful for birds and to be honest pet shops don’t know the condition the birds have come from either, it’s always advisable to go to a breeder directly because you can see how good the hygiene is and how the adults are kept and if it’s not to your liking you can just walk away but you wouldn’t know that when getting birds via a pet shop .The only downside as you said yes you have to be careful of scammers just wanting your address, no shows can sometimes be down to other breeders wanting to sell there’s so you hold onto yours . I don’t carrier (post) my birds myself as it would cost the buyer about £60 by a few companies that actually transport birds. but also I wouldn’t want my birds having to travel 3-4hrs to some places , had a guy last year wanting some of my mosaic cross canaries , my ad clearly stated collection only and he wanted them sent to Scotland at his cost but I refused as I wasn’t going to give him my bank details , cash in hand only with me unless I personally know the person.
Well said Ben, we have sold birds through pets for homes, and have been fortunate with genuine buyers, but as the saying goes’There’s nowt weirder than folk’!!!
Ben, just found your channel mate, great video, my grandad bred all types of birds from finches to parrots, I’ve always loved birds. I’ve been searching for some budgies for ages and can’t seem to find any unless they are way too expensive or the breeding conditions or breeders didn’t give me good vibes. Maybe we could help each other, I could maybe relieve you of a few birds, 👍👍 Let me know if we can an help each other!!
@@bstrippy1664 of course I subbed mate. How many birds require a new home? Also is there any way of using a specialist pet courier to bring them to me at my cost obviously? I have an aviary set up attached to my log cabin with electric supply so I can provide heat and light at winter same as I do for my chickens. I currently don’t have any budgies due to not being able to find any near me, I was thinking maybe 4 unrelated birds to start off with and hoping they would breed or maybe introduce a couple from another source at a later date for dna diversity, I learned lots growing up from my grandad but your videos help to. Let me know your thoughts.
Sparrowhawks don’t just terrorise your aviary. They also ambush birds through hedges or on a bird feeder, Male Sparrowhawks tend to prey on smaller species of birds such as sparrows tits starlings thrushes and finches. And rarely take prey larger than a Mistle thrush. Whereas Female Sparrowhawks will also take larger birds such as feral pigeons Wood pigeons collared doves magpies jays and jackdaws
@@bstrippy1664 Started with a 'Budgie' as a kid, now just got a Senegal. ( hand reared but left for over ten years ( It was a mates bird, ) in its cage 😪. So not to friendly. It's ok with men but dislikes Women intensely. 🤣. Shame really, because I got it for the Mr's, whose always wanted a parrot. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤣🤣
Id take one lol, my budgie is desperate for a friend, bought 2 for him over the last 2 years from a shop and both died, one was old and the other must of had a genetic issue as it was fine one day and dead the next and he was young, don't trust these shops anymore
thats an awful lot of budgies/birds :) i would happily accept a couple lol but I don't think they would like to sit in a box to get sent to jersey channel islands :) i was looking only to see if anyone was selling eggs, i was watching someone raise them from eggs and it looked really interesting
@@kquinny it does look really interesting but it is also very time-consuming. I know someone that does it with Cockatiels and he’s up every two hours feeding them?!!
@bstrippy1664 worse then a baby :) 1 baby was enough for me, I will skip the egg idea.. I would have gladly taken a couple, but I doubt there is a safe way to send them.. looking forward to seeing the new babies grow
Im pretty sure there many websites you can list them for sell & ship them overseas. Also listing them below the average price might be sold quickly. God bless sir 🙏
@@ramiroreynajr2574 thank you for the comment… I have done just this it’s been a bit more of an effort than I wanted it to be so look out for that in the future video.
Hi just found your channel, when I had budgies I would never give them cucumber as it can be acidic! I used to shutter mine in as soon as it got dark & had a strip light in there & turned it off at 11pm, it gave them more time to feed especially in the cold winter months, I would take them off in the morning, only had a kestrel come down once but the neighbourhood cats were a problem! Nice aviary mate!
@@schuey089 thanks for watching… appreciate the feed back… never ever heard cucumber being bad for budgies. It’s one of the recommended treats for a bird such as a budgie….. but we all live in Lebanon and we all get taught different rights and wrongs.
I think black cheeks are recessive so both parents have to be either black cheeks or carrying the gene. So for the last three years you've been breeding carriers of the black cheek gene and eventually 2 gave paired together and produced a visual black cheek
I want to build an aviary that has enough buffeting between the birds and inquisitive cats so they can’t frighten my birds but still let’s in enough natural light
The best thing to do is double mesh it with a void in between, the only reason I haven’t done that yet is we enjoy feeding the birds through the mesh, with a double mesh with a void that won’t be easy or even possible, but the birds will be 100% safer.
So you have too many birds but why are you still offering them nesting boxes🤔🤷♂️ As long as they have fresh food and nesting boxes available they won't stop breeding. That‘s what budgies and finches are made for. That's how they survive in the Aussie Outback
