Do you know how to fill out forms, read disclosure, hire inspectors and set up times for them to view the property so constantly opening the property and paying all the dues to access Market data, supra keys, MLS comps, and negotiate lots of money on behalf of your clients whether working with a seller or a buyer? Or possibly even being a dual agent? I'm sure your answer is No! You can't expect to have a whole new job to do by yourself as a consumer when buying the most important purchases of your life. Answers like yours only show how uneducated you are about what Realtors do in the US and around the world.
The list is so long, can't fit everything we do in comments section: Off market opportunities that you as a consumer will never know about because realtors have a wide network of people they know, they market to, their sphere of influence, their mentors and team mates. Endless education in insurance, interest rates and lending programs, vendors to hire for repairs such as sewer lateral, plumbing, roof, chimney, electric and so on. We even offer money upfront to help clients remodel their homes so they can increase their value of their home as soon as it hits the market, getting my seller's more money than they could dream of because they didn't have that money to upgrade their home and increase that market value! Real estate lawyers and experts who we are close friends with that help our clients with estates and trust sales, CPA's and tax experts that can help our clients make the right purchase/selling decisions. It's an endless list of services and connections that we provide. You must have had a bad experience but you can't put that one bad experience as a general observation for all Realtors. Next time interview a bunch of realtors before you decide who you work with, as you would when looking for a loan that suits your needs, as you would with your family doctor, family lawyer, or anyone who you would hire to work for you.

Sorry that one person ruined your experience with working with Realtors. We all go through bad experiences with mechanics, doctors, teachers, lawyers, nurses, trainers, so on and so forth.
