My cat name was bubba, ge died on august 12th at 1am. He was only 4 and extremely loving. No signs or indications of HCM, but that night, he was breathing heavily, and has his tongue out, which never happened before. He was pronouced dead in 2 hours . He was found to have HCM and a level 6 of latex acid in him, the normal level is 2. He died in my arms and i was so scared that i couldn't even comfort him other than to look into his eyes for his final moments I miss you bubba you were my loving sweet friend who comforted me from morning to night, greet me at door everytime and always wanted to play. I love you friend, i will see you soon. 🧡
My cat had the same problem. I found the book 'Cat Dental Disease Managing and Overcoming' By Albert Costa on amazon very good advice for my cat and we managed much better. Thank you for this as well.
I lost my Maine Coon boy at just three years old. He was, I thought, sleeping right next to me, like he did for hours. Even though he had been tested for HCM as a kitten, it is what he died of. The vet said he wouldn't have felt a thing. He just went to sleep and didn't wake up.
Thank you to all the kids and their handlers.GOD Bless. A special SEMPER FI to all the USMC K9s and my brothers and sister that handle the K9s. Ooooo rah
It turns out my cat was misdiagnosed. She had an echocardiogram and no sign of HCM. The new vet thinks she may have had an injury (which caused the fluid to build up around her chest and thickened side of her heart)but everything is fine. I had my suspicions because no vet has ever heard a heart murmur with her. I’m just so happy she’s okay.
I applied for Summer 2024!! Now im just waiting to see if i get in. I really hope i do. I have a MAJOR interest in Horses and large animals. And the fact that they have these animals, onsite, is incredible.
My cat was diagnosed with this exactly a year ago today and I’m here to give some hope!! Last year we took her to the vet a few times, no heart murmur was heard but wasn’t eaten well and developed rapid breathing. She had an ultrasound and they found lots of water on her chest (not lungs) this was drained and they noticed the left side of her heart had thickened. I asked the vet how long they thought she had left, she said she couldn’t tell me exactly but said it could be months or it could be years and years- it was impossible for her to estimate. After 2 nights at the vets she came home and started daily medication. Libeo and clopidogrel. Here we are a year later and she’s sitting next to me sleeping. It hasn’t been plain sailing, she’s had to go back to the vet twice this year after a spell of not eating but I’d say she is doing well. She still plays and has a good quality of life but sleeps a bit more than the average cat, which she has always done since a kitten. My advice would be to monitor how rapid your cats breathing is. Google says cats should take 15-30 breaths a minute but my vet said 15-40 is normal. DO NOT TRY TO COUNT WHEN THEY'RE PURRING. Cats breath much faster when they’re purring so don’t scare yourself! Weirdly she still doesn’t seem to have a heart murmur and different vets have tried to listen. She may develop this later down the line? But I hope not. Trust your gut and take them to the vet if they seem off.
My cat just died two days ago on the 26th of September at the age of 11😭. When I just had him as a kitten the vet might of thought she heard a little bit of heart murmur, trough his life nothing was wrong with him until last year he couldn't walk to good with his back legs, took him to the vet had some antibiotics and medicine and after three weeks was able to walk again. I thought it was due to an injury because he just caught a bird, and perhaps he hurt his back by it. Last Sunday he was laying on a strange spot underneath a low table, and was starting to walk bad again. Monday he was the same laying in a hide spot breathing rapidly and walking difficult. Made an appointment with the vet but this was on Tuesday. On Tuesday morning I found him passed away 😭
What is your approach when a cat with HCM needs dental surgery? What is the biggest risk with the anesthesia? Blood clots or something else? and is it more dangerous during or after the surgery. What make it a complication?
Sad day today , had to let my yo-yo 15 yr old male kitty go. Yo-yo had HCM & Heart failure Left ventricular enlargement , pleural effusion had returned after two tries of thoracentesis, CKD , Anemia And medication but had to let him. Crushed hearts we have.
My cat had HCM. He was diagnosed with heart murmur and asthma at 2 years old he almost made it to 8 but went into heart failure and wasn't responding to treatment. I had to put him to sleep, he declined so quickly. I always thought I would have more time with him. Such a terrible disease.
I'm sorry for your loss. Did you cat get diagnosed with HCM as well or was it not detected? My cat was diagnosed with asthma but I currently suspect that she has HCM too. Does this mean that she might die at 8 years old even if she got treatment now or is this without treatment?
@idc5962 he got diagnosed with it 3 days before he passed but the vet at first thought he had pneumonia. Unfortunately most cats don't live more than a year with HCM even with medications
I don't understand why any form of treatment is done only when the disease has advanced into a more apparent complication. Why isn't anything done to lessen those symptoms?
Yes this were this is what happened to my fur baby but no one can tell me ,if there were any treatments . I feel the decision to put my cat down , made without me was not right .
My 13 week old kitten died on Wednesday night from HMC. He hadn’t eaten through the day possibly due to the heat, he sat in out cat box and didn’t want to get out, maybe that was a sign he needed to go to the vets. It was sudden and sudden death and we’re all shocked. He was fine through out the day, he was in the living room with my dad and the next minute his legs gave way, coughing like he was chocking, his lungs full of fluid, crapped him self and was taken to the 24hr vets. My parents believe he had lost consciousness in the car. The vets did the best they could but unfortunately his lungs were to full and he died. Can’t believe it. Now we’re getting all the kittens checked to make sure. This HMC is ab asshole and is genetic. Kittens from 3 months can have this without even knowing… I miss him soo much. 😢😿😭💔
Our cat has a heart murmur picked ip a few years ago after a feint. A scan showed i was told thickened heart and blood not being able to move as it should. Plus water in chest not lungs so much. He was on heart tablets clopidrogrel and water tabs.. water tabs were eventually discontinued by vets. I wqs told he could have two months to live. He had a heart scan yeaterday and his heart was normal aparrt feom murmur and his left side was only slightly thick at 8mm but hes a big cat. So wqs is a mis diagnosis? Hes been taken off all meds by cardio vet
Usually it’s not so bad just a minor stomach ache. But you want to fix it sooner that later my friends horse who was her baby died from an extreme case that happened so fast. It was so sad because horses become family and when you lose them it’s devastating.
Super clear, thank you. I was looking for a video to attach as an end-screen to this video in which my horse was showing all the signs that you were mentioning. I did see him poop, so I did not call my vet and eventually you see him settle and have a long rest and he seems fine after. Thank you for this video! Here's the link to mine, if you are interested in a "case study": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9rEE28Psmrs.html
My cat diagnosed with blood clot today. It’s just happen out of nowhere, no sign of illness at all prior to that. She was suddenly growling in pain, couldn’t walk with both of her back legs, breathing fast. First, I thought something fell on her but couldn’t find anything falling down. Went to the vet and realised that it was very serious. They put her in oxygen case straight away. It was too quick, too soon.
Great explanation! Does the cat have to be vocalizing for it to be a thromboembolism? I understand it's painful but what if they exhibit all the other symptoms, including 0 pain response, except vocalization, does the rule out thromboembolism?
Orphaned means orphaned , it DOES NOT MEAN A HEALTHY EAGLELET ON THE GROUND , IT MEANS THE MOTHER HAS ABONDONED IT , OR HAS PERISHED , PERIOD !!!!! THE IDEA THAT AN BABY EAGLE IS ON THE GROUND WITHOUT THE MOTHER , EVER BEING IN SIGHT IS ABSURD , MOTHER EAGLES DO NOT ROLL LIKE THAT , EVER , IF IT IS HEALTHY , AND THE MOTHER IS ALIVE , THEN SHE IS NEARBY , P E R I O D !!! SHE IS NOT LEAVING HER BABY ON THE GROUND , AND LEAVING HER WATCH !!!
@@nhim2284not necessarily. With stomatitis the ulcers and inflammation can remain. The solution is to keep the bacteria down by brushing and dental solutions for water and inside the mouth. Antibiotics and steroids, also help ❤
My cat was just was diagnosed with ATE feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with secondary iliac thromboembolism He had exactly those symptoms and we don't have much hope according to the vet 😢 he said he was going to give him aspirin and check how he reacted to the medication
My little 3 almost 4 years old cat just died last Saturday Sept 5th, 2020 - she had liquid into her tórax and lungs and also a 1.14 cms gross from the “septo diastole” (don’t know what it is in English) associated to a probable hypertrophic cardiomyopathy 😭
I am in no way a vet or qualified to give medical advice but yellowing of the tooth or enamel is probally nothing to worry about you should be looking at the gum line for any redness, that is where gingivitis starts. If the animals seems fine have your Vet examine on your next yearly visit. If you notice any change in behavior, pain, change in eating, immediately contact your vet or local animal hospital.
@@GeneralJameson Well he has really stinky breath and he doesn't wanna anything to help him. He already has dark yellow teeth. idk, if we try to help he is not willing to take the medicine and we can't force him.
@@eyeeerie Just brush your cat's teeth daily or every other day. Cat's teeth rarely get a darkish yellow because they barely get food on their teeth. You don't want your cat to have diseases
My 13 years old cat died today of heart failure. Yes have the thyroid ckeck. It has link to cause high blood pressure , heart problems. I regret I have not done that when he was younger .
@@nathaliecaron3938 Im sorry to hear that. How are you holding up? I have a question about it. I want to adopt a cat but the pound said he's healthy except that his blood work for HCM were a little high. But is not diagnosed with it. Does this mean I can potentially stop it from developing ? Or is just inevitable?
Thyroid should be checked at the very latest I would say around 7 years. A cat with a murmur I think should have an echo, it will provide much more info including grading the murmur.
