I love everything about this car info, I have two that they are in the proses restoration, so I'm always locking in videos to improve my knowledge of this car, please don't stop showing what you are doing, and we all benefit from it.
Guys im looking forward to buy this wonderful bike, at what amount of kilometers did your issues happen?, how much did u spent on them already? beside these issues would u still recommend buying it? its so rare to find on the market, and if its there its most of the time very overpriced in my opinion
@@Saryotheone the bike has been amazing. My bike is on 15,000 miles. This is the first issue I have had with it and hopefully easily sorted. But it is Italian so can’t expect it always to be plain sailing 😁
I'm at 23ish thousand miles. I had this issue about 4 thousand miles ago. My bike is not a great example, the previous owner didn't take the best care of it, and I'm pretty sure it's been dropped, but It really has been reliable overall. This issue made it unrideable, but the fix was $50 so real simple in the end, and the fact that my mechanic had never seen it before probably means it's really rare. I also have a small leak from the clutch slave cylinder, and this is a common problem on these bikes. My shop replaces it with an aftermarket part because the OEM part is not great, but the leak is very slow so most people top off clutch fluid and go about their day, which is what I am currently doing. I will change it eventually but it is effectively a non-issue at the moment. I don't know if you would need special tools to do the job yourself, but the cylinder is hanging off the left side of the engine block, so no accessibility issues. I mentioned a coolant leak, but it's also very slow and I have a feeling it's a crack in the expansion tank itself, so again not a nightmare. I will say however, I used to have a 2007 Ducati Monster S2R 800 and that bike was supremely reliable and noticeably better put together than this one.
I know what's wrong with it and hopefully, I'm about to save you months of grief. I had the same issue. I'd start the bike it would sound like shit and it would be down on power. It would do this off and on, sometimes it would be ok, others no, but it seemed to get progressively worse. I even lost the dash lights at some point, which I think someone mentioned something similar in the comments. I did what I could, tested, fuses, plugs, etc, but I ended up taking it to my mechanic. This guy works only on Ducati's he's the best in the area, and he couldn't figure it out. Man, the bike was there for weeks. He changed plugs, checked compression, TBs, ran diagnostics, he did everything. He even swapped out the dash from another bike. Nothing. He legitimately gave up, he told me he had never seen anything like this, nobody he called had seen anything like this, he asked me to come take the bike, and he said he didn't feel right charging me anything since he couldn't figure it out. Anyway, I go to pick up the bike, I start it and it sounds like shit again. I'm about to leave, his assistant comes out and stops me, he rolls the bike to the back and reappears five minutes later with the bike fixed. That's the story. The issue is the exhaust valve servo. I'm not sure if I'm saying that correctly. Depending on conditions, the valve opens and closes to control exhaust volume, and also for torque modulation at low RPM. Over time, the mechanism that opens and closes the valve wears and can get stuck shut. The solution is a servo exhaust valve eliminator bypass. I don't know which one my shop uses, but I'm guessing it's something like this: www.desmo-racing.com/en/servo-exhaust-valve-eliminator-bypass-connector-ducati-esed02-xml-426_641-6210.html
@@atlastvstation wow thanks for the advise mate! I’ll certainly look into that! I haven’t had any problems with the dash just yet… but yeah this could be it! Hopefully a cheap fix then
@@m_john_m No worries. It's shocking how cheap the fix was, given the amount of time and effort that went into diagnosing it. My dash issues came later, but the consensus was that it was probably related, so hopefully the problem is fixed before you get to that point. I'd love to see a video of this if it's in fact the fix! Good luck
@@atlastvstation yeah it’s starting to become a nightmare 😂 I will be doing another video on the other bits I’m doing. I’m going to test the injectors to make sure they are OK aswell. I just want it back on the road 😂
@@m_john_m I'll watch what you post brother. It's seems like you're trying to get it back into proper condition, which is the same place I am in. I have a 2011 848 Evo, which is not in the best shape. Mechanically it's fine, minus a small coolant leak I'm trying to track down. Cosmetically it's a mess. My fairings are cracked, it's matte black and the paint is in awful condition, and I have spots of rust everywhere.
It's always good to get Rid of that stupid valve. They say it's for Torque at low Rpms but it's not. Notic no aftermarket Exhausts have them. It's for Emissions and noise pollution. You will notice more power down low without it.
@@patrickduncan3637 I know mate 😢 well it only threw up an EML for a few seconds. I don’t have the adaptor for it (it’s not an OBD2 like a car…. Might look into ordering one). Was planning on testing injectors first 😁
Hi mate, I've got a 848 and the dam thing coughs and splutters at 2000rpm, then at higher rpm, So I changed the sparkplugs and coils but still splutters then goes, I'm guessing my tps is iffy, Does your rpm display go on and off when it splutters 🤔
@@GAVINSenior-r1k hi mate, Yeah I have been told it could be the TPS. Appears to be more a fueling issue but I really don’t know at the moment. No my display is fine, I did have an EML briefly come on once for about 30 seconds though 🤔 next step for me is to get injectors checked over
@@GAVINSenior-r1k hi mate. No my display is fine I think 🤔 someone commented saying it could be something to do with the exhaust valve, apparently you can buy a bypass switch to prevent it from staying shut? So might be worth a try (£60 so potentially cheap fix)
@@m_john_m hi mate I bought 2 spark plugs and two new coils, Still stutters at 2k then at 7to8k, So then bought a regulator Rectifer still doing the same, Then after all that a fault code finally appeared,, Erro PKUP 🤯 Pick up sensor on left hand side, that's what makes the dash flicker plus backfire 🤯 Check your connection from the pickup sensor to the ecu before buying the picup sensor 😎
@@GAVINSenior-r1k I have recently taken the bike to a shop to be plugged in and they found the problem… TPS Will do a video once it’s fixed (hopefully next week) once the part arrives from Germany! My dash never flickered luckily!
@@teecchnoboy yeah a manual would transform the way the car drives 🙌 but your probably right the underside is the worst 😂 this one was pretty clean underneath
a life saving advice for every 159 owner. if out front wheel needs a life saver do as follow... remove your good rear wheel mount the life saver on the rear. then remove front wheel with bad tyre and mount the good rear wheel on it. Thank me later. alfa jtdm front axle load is 1030 kg rear axle load 730 with driver and 50 liters of fuel
@@m_john_m They're a pain to keep clean, the Borbets really make them stand out. lovely car though. I have a TT mk1 currently at 285bhp, cant take it any higher without replacing rods, Im buying either an S5 or S4, keeping the TT but selling my Lexus LS 430 to get more funds for a decent S5 or S4, you shouldn't have any problem selling that though as its a rare one and the right colour 👍🏼 What E30 do you have?
@@Electrotat awesome mate! Make sure it’s a V8 S5 ;) Iv got an e30 325 sport m tec 2, complete resto on it. It’s nearly finished, just need funds to get it off the line. This and the e31 build have crippled me 😂
@@Electrotat yes mate, been an absolute pig to sort, was hilariously rusty to the point the welder nearly walked off the job on the first day 😂 new cills, inner cills, arches 😂 should have started my YT videos then, would have been a laugh for some
Great car, I would’ve taken the subframe off, had it blasted and powder coated and renewed all the bushes mate, would’ve preserved the car for another 30 years
I know mate, usually do this but not getting that deep into this car. Just putting it back onto the road, all the underside work I am doing is an extra really.
