Many young fans probably have no understanding that "Not Fade Away" was written by the great Buddy Holly, partially in tribute to Bo Diddly.

I think the record company made a mistake releasing this song as first single from the second album. It's too similar to My Sharona. Also The Knack was unfairly criticized for being too successful with the first album and single and they got a lot of unwarranted backlash. In hindsight they should have waited another 6 months or a year before releasing second album and could have put another single or two from first album.

Round Trip was a good album but wasn’t close to Get The Knack or But The Little Girls Understand, Round Trip was released well after the 2nd album and unfortunately the rush of their explosion on the scene had fizzled. Selecting Pay The Devil (ooo baby ooo) as the first single was a colossal mistake, I like the song a lot but it’s too slow and unlike their usual gut punch sound. I would have preferred Just Wait And See, Boys Go Crazy or Another Lousy Day In Paradise to try and help them recover from their drought since mid 1980. Seen them in the Fall of 1981 promoting Round Trip in Royal Oak, Michigan and they proved that on stage, they still had it, and continued that feat every time I saw them after up until Doug’s way too young death in 2010. RIP Doug and Bruce.

"Good Girls Don't" is one of the GREATEST tunes EVER in Rock 'N' Roll! Doug's Harmonica (and a SOLO!), Prescott's heavy bass, Burton's harmonies, Gary's driving drums, great lyrics and a "hook"! It's a perfect song! The Beatles would be proud.

In 1981 I was 21 graduating Tech school and getting married in October. I was and still am a drummer. Loved this song, My Sharona,Frustrated & the whole Album. 💿 loved the whole Meet the Beatles vibe of the Album. Such a shame he passed so early. They’d hopefully be touring today.

I recall sitting in my parked 1968 Mustang at Green Lake in Seattle and hearing this on the radio. Remember thinking yeah, these guys are gonna own it for a long time with a sound like that. But.amid the Punk, Disco, Outlaw country, and stadium rock, music tastes were ever changing so fast that a great band like this faded with the synth pop coming from UK. The Knack were one of the last great Rock INSTRUMENTALISTS of the 1970s.

Berton...One of the most under rated guitarists ever. I bought the album when it was originally released. Yeah, I'm old...get over that. Berton is the bridge between the cats in the 1950's to the dudes of the 1980's. I really mean that. His tone is clear. His solos are crisp and clean. The contrast between he and Doug is what made that music really pop. Doug doing the Buddy Holly thing with the Strat and Berton on a Les Paul. Great songwriter. The best thing that I can recall was listening to My Sharona on the radio and then buying the album and getting the full solo. I knew about radio edits but I didn't know that Berton laid down that searing Lead on the record until I bought it. I never bought 45's. I wanted to hear the whole album because these guys used to spend quality time just sequencing the tracks. It sucked losing Doug and Bruce. The Knack arrived just in time with all of the Disco stuff going on. Yes, you can hear their influences but they gave us a different voice. Back then there was no RU-vid. We had to rely on the album photos or an occasional appearance on Dick Clark's show. Thanks Berton and Prescott. There's another guy who influenced my playing. He had that Gibson EB bark thing down cold. I only need a few milliseconds and I knew right away who's bass I was hearing. All of those guys were incredible musicians. It wasn't bubblegum pop; they had real deal chops and that rhythm section kicked major ass.

I remember there was this 'dislike The Knack', and I liked them - then AND now (purputedly about Doug's lyrics being about Humbert Humbert-ish, if you get my meaning). It was HIS lyrics, and that's NOT reality, any more than anything else made by an artist in a film, record, etc. They wrote melodic tunes, and should've had a better chance at 'surviving'.😊
