It's supposed to have an onboard 4k upscaler. The cartridge options are a pretty big deal too - thought those were a great idea from a marketing perspective.

Wont happen. The people behind mars (at the top and the money behind the scenes) have been trying to fork mister for a long time because they want to be in charge of a project and push its direction. I doubt they will ever get behind R2 as it will mean taking a back seat again.

The MARS team definitely have their work cut out ahead of them. Unfortunately delays, which are sometimes inevitable, do decrease public confidence significantly.

This is what I’ve been saying since the beginning. They claim to be some sort of all-star MiSTer dream-team, and maybe they are. But how many times have we seen all-star teams fall apart and fail miserably. All ego and no teamwork. It’s something of a trope really. And just because each was a big fish in their small ponds doesn’t mean they’re automatically qualified to tackle something so completely different. What does being a MiSTer core developer have to do with being an ace hardware developer? Or marketing guru? Or finance manager? Or anything related to the project other than FPGA programming. And so far all their tweets and mind-changing, and failures to make deadlines, failures to show anything tangible, and childish bullying only confirm they’re children pretending to play house in the MiSTer hardware space. And $700 hahahaa!

​@@Mike-B-Jackson The whole "FPGA Avengers" was coined by people who are either friends of the project or people who don't even own a MiSTer. Like you said, each contributor has a track record, but all their experience doesn't translate to a mainstream consumer product.

Yeah, if it does what the MARS team is claiming. An FPGA NAOMI alone is huge if that's possible with current man power resources. Personally I don't have a problem with delays but I did have more of an issue with their early PR which for the most part has settled down.

@@jeremy__hopkins there is no naomi though - those were just gifs and emulation footage. they have never actually said they are releasing naomi have they? if they were serious about it, theyd have focussed everything on that core because its a game-changer. but instead its 3doh, jaguar and probably some obscure coin-op cores.

@@jayjand1306 That's the reason for the caveat "if," in my original comment. Yeah, I don't agree with their PR and this wishy-washy wait and see approach rather than being direct and stating what the goals are to complete. Scrolling back 8 months in atrac17 twitter timeline is not really something I have time to do but if I remember correctly he had a post with Naomi hardware and teasing there should be a better way to play. There's also a video by Video Game Esoterica which goes over some of the same details between CPS3 fighters and Zombie Revenge. Though considering how difficult it has been for Jotego to even get started on CP3, I have concern about the manpower alone necessary to make Naomi happen on FPGA hardware. Still, if they do it, even for select games, that would be a reason to own MARS. For the very basics, expect most cores from the MiSTer and maybe some cart adapters. The rest we really don't know yet.

@@synthiecat5879 that's a good observation, it was definitely the correct mic. I think it was more a case OBS filters, not being optimised. I'll troubleshoot a bit more over the next couple of days. I appreciate the suggestions, as it does sound exactly as you describe.

I bit the bullet and just settled on the Bitfunx component cables. Between waiting for the retrovision cables and RGC ones always being out of stock I was tired of waiting and wanted to cable manage all of my shit.

Agreed, but remember this is done using the (still developing) Scorpion Engine; so that comes with an extra cost in the CPU and memory department and such. And of course the game itself is still unfinished. Lots of games being made with the engine also get extra stuff as soon as the Scorpion Engine itself gets extra stuff and is more capable while being developed.

That's interesting, so if the games are proprietary and are good, it could be an extra incentive to make the purchase.
