No matter who your team was, this was a classic! RIP- Kenny Stabler. At age 14, little did I know how good I had it! The media/NFL deleted the Buoniconti/Fernandez incident after the game. That fan was lucky Fernandez didn't kill him. Even vibration football had a Dolphins-Raiders edition after this... it was that iconic! Ps- I was too young to remember the black bras and panties but would expect nothing less from the Raiders culture 🧐 Nice job!
The dolphins sound like a bunch of whiners in this piece. The raiders were missing hall of fame willie brown and had to deal with the wet field also . Lose with class miami
Love these old NFL game videos, I grew up watching all these games and thankfully I did because I would of missed some of the all time great games and player's. When the NFL was great, now it's really not worth watching.
I was 11 years old and watched this game. My Dolphins had their chances and just came up a bit short. Every time I watch it I revert back to that disappointed and crying 11 year old boy😢.
That was the first NFL game I ever attended. I was hanging out near one of the entrances when a group of middle-aged dudes with an extra ticket invited me in with them midway through the first quarter. I remember the throw and catch like it was yesterday. I was of the fans on the field after the game.
Its crazy these days, lots of players with great physical gifts, in better shape than ever, but yet none of them can tackle. Head on the ball, feet wide, wrap the legs, lift and dump. Now it seems that you get 4 guys to bounce off the ball carrier.
The Raiders could beat you by beating you, or they could outskill you by position or fool you with a better game plan. Otis Sistrunk University of Mars, still makes me chuckle all these years gone by.
Some Spurs-Gervin history, pre-Duncan: This was as close as the Spurs ever got to the Finals pre-Duncan-era. Spurs blew a 3-1 lead in this 1979 Conference Finals against Washington, which included a game-6 loss in San Antonio Spurs also made the Conference Finals in the 1982 and 1983 postseasons in the Gervin era, losing both times to the Lakers. In 1982, Spurs got swept by the Lakers And in 1983, Spurs did win game 2 in LA to steal homecourt, but then the Spurs lost both games 3-4 in San Antonio, and were down 3-1. Spurs won game 5 in LA again, but then the Spurs lost again in San Antonio in game 6, unable to force a game 7 in LA So close for the Gervin era. Then they had the Conference Finals with the Rockets in 1995, and that was a brutal series loss for David Robinson and the Spurs.
Such a great game and great time for football but I've always loved how the Dolphins cried so much about the field and accusing Madden of wetting it down ,which he denied, then the next year in Pittsburgh it was Madden accusing the Steelers of the same thing😅
Back in better times. Don't care who's black or white. Not 8 people in the booth calling games. No strip tease at halftime show. Not 30 tv timeouts. Just good football.
The "snake" is my all time favorite, wasn't the best talent BUT when the game was on the line he always came through 90% of the time, you could count on Stabler to get the job done, i'm a Giants fan for over 60's years but i loved the Raiders, i also loved Miami so this game for me i rooted for both sides!
Linebacker Mike Kolen nicknamed "Captain Crunch" there on that last play who had a shot of breaking up the catch, just a hair short. Mike passed away this year in early April.
as a kid I saw this game. I didn't remember much other than I knew I was pulling for the OAKLAND Raiders and hoping they would win. The thing that was most memorable to me was the last play of the game. Other than that, I don't remember much. I was just a kid. Wow! Starting from Phil Villapiano, to the start the final drive in slow motion. To the background music, and the GREAT Bill King announcing, what a setting. The scene couldn't even be told any better by NFL Films (great job guys!). Kinda reminds me of a Shakespearian play. All these years I didn't even realize this. June 18, 2024, when I saw Cliff Branch's catch. He actually trapped the football. I was surprised at the replay. Yes, I believe Branch trapped the ball. It wasn't a legit catch. The OAKLAND Raiders got lucky. I'm glad they won. The Dolphins is a classy team, class act. My hats off to them. Lot of great players in this game. Many Hall of Famers.
While I appreciate you sharing this, I still can't bring myself to watch this. It broke my 9 year old heart. And then with Csonka Kiick and Warfield leaving for the WFL, It was the beginning of my demise. Back to Back Championships by the time I was 8 and then NOTHING in the 50+ years since.
After three years of being virtually unbeatable, and having an annoying older brother who was a Dolphin fan, this outcome is stamped in my memory under FU Miami!!! The Dolphins were the Borg of the NFL and deserved to be looked upon as such. Enjoy that ride back to Florida...especially Csonka, Kiick and Warfield who were about to join a loser league where players had to rush after practise to cash their pay cheques before they bounced. Good times!!!
This Pittsburgh team became the first American team to win the Cup since the Islanders did it in 1983. Didn't realized the Canadian teams won the Stanley Cup between 1984 to 1990. This happens to be Mario Lemieux first Stanley Cup win. Love Bob Cole's commentary.
Phil I’m an old friend of Jim Plunkett went to his wedding. I joined the Woodside fire department and moved to Sacramento. Lost track of Jim. I know he still lives in the same place anyway good to see your name and your face on the interview. you explained everything perfectly. Nice to hear the old names from Stanford.
