What is the hard cardboard you use to make the cover? Thanks for your video. As you say, there aren't that many out there and yours is straight to the point and quite useful.
DAS, Sea Lemon DIY, Nik the booksmith, and four keys book arts. All very good to learn from on RU-vid. As for the cardboard, when starting off learning bookbinding, go cheap with a first test book. Use cereal box card, fold up some copy/printer paper to make some simple signatures, wrap your card covers in paper instead of bookcloth, and sew and glue it all together. Once you have got the hang of the sewing, folding, gluing and your happy with your new gained experience move on to grey board about 2mm thick. As an additional skill to learn, you could try making your own bookcloth for some practice pieces. But if you don't yet feel confident enough for that, buying bookcloth is absolutely fine.
Thanks for sharing. I've been trying to copy your method. Problem is, the comics are still loose even if I'm pulling the strings really tight. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Correct tension comes with practice/experience. However, glueing an extra strip of paper to the comics spine after gluing the fabric mul on should help.
@@reevrob glad to have been of help. 😊 I'm still new to bookbinding as well but thought I would share what I had learned so far. Happy continuing future comic book binding projects to you. 👍
Someone has been watching DAS bookbinding. You don't want to paste the tapes if you plan to round the back. If you don't plan on rounding, which you didn't, then don't worry about it, and paste everything. When applying the mull (which should be done after rounding) the entire back should get pasted including the tapes.
The 1/2 inch spacer is more about the thickness of the board being used rather than the thickness of the text block. so long as you are using 2.5-3 mm thick board that should be enough to cover the thickness of the spine piece and the grove to form the hinge.
Wow. This is amazing to me. Surprised you left the staples in though. Aren't you worried that leaving staples in makes that one edge of the book thicker?
Very good mate. May i suggest using a more sticky glue for the spine (tile glue is perfect) and adding 2 or 3 pieces of paper (grain on spine direction) on top of the mesh, it helps support the opening/closing of the book better
bonefolder glue (starch, pva, tile glue) string for sewing cloth stripes for sewing papercutter-cutting mat-ruler-pencil cardboard bookcloth (bookbinding cloth, its a piece of cloth with paper on one side, used for book covers and whatnot) bookbinding mesh for the spine
This being your first book, it looks very professionally done! Book Doctor charges whopping 200 bucks for this kind of a job. This is mind blowing, thanks for sharing this video!
Thank you for making this video. I got some paperbacks that I want to bind myself. Will follow this step by step guide. I made a comic book slipcase video...if you wanna check it out its right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9vLWc-H4D3o.html
Gutted I couldn't make this one live! I somehow double booked myself :( Great chat though guys! Although after the last couple of chats I feel like I need to come back on and add some extra picks for each category... apparently you can just pick however many you want :P Don't worry I'm just kidding ;P great picks Phil! And I love this format, it generates some great discussion! Can't wait for the next one!
At the price a few doubles really aren't an issue. I get all the UK partworks as they come out so until that stock runs out and the bundle goes back to being surplus trades actually from DC it's not a lot of use to me, will be picking up a box for my nephews' birthday this summer though. Zavvi packaging in the UK is usually a lot more robust with a box the size you received packed inside a much larger box with air pockets, I suspect having to keep the dimensions down for international is a major factor here. Not sure how fast you're getting around to reading them but be aware that there is an error with Young Justice, issue 1 is missing with Young Justice Secret Files 1 accidentally printed in it's place. That fits in a bit later in the run after the girls are introduced and means the formation of the team, Supercycle origin and Mighty Endowed origin are missing. If you're on Instagram feel free to check out my shelf pictures for the spine art across various Eaglemoss and Hachette books, same name as on here.
We have a chain over here called The Works that's a cut price book and stationary shop, and they used to have a decent stock of reduced trades and hardcovers, but over the last few years they just seem to have gotten rid of them altogether. I don't think we really have anything like an Ollies over here.
Those are some great hard back titles you picked up for a super fair price. In the mystery bag 5e only one I really want is the legion secret files as I’m completing the run of secret files and origins. Overall really great haul 👍🏻
What are the chances, I picked up dark Knight dynasty a couple weeks back, not read it yet. JLA is a great run. Last son of krypton is aces. Well worth a read. All of the year one titles have been really good. The batgirl is one of my favourite. Tower or Babel and JLA Earth 2 YES! this box is awesome. Some great reads in there.
Some good stories there! Man of Steel and Tower of Babel especially. If you take out all the duplicates, how many different books in the collection have you got now?
Last Son of Krypton is a great read, mate. Also, fire me a list of what numbers you have already along with your address on IG, bud and if I see some of these going cheap on eBay here (they often are). I'll grab them for you and get them over to you. 👍🏻
Just found your channel. @sithlordly gave you a shout out on IG so I came to check it out. Impressive that box could still hold those books! How many books are in the whole set?
