I live in Tennessee and once or twice a year I visit my favorite camera store Adorama where I buy all my equipment. This time around my visit was (accidentally) at the same time as Joe's and Daniel's classes. I truly enjoyed them. I'm so grateful to Adorama to keep organizing these classes and I hope they continue to do it. It is one thing to watch it on line but quite another to see it live. Thank you so much.
To demonstrate High-Speed Sync (HSS) maybe? A strobe or speedlight is like your SuperSoaker water gun that you and or kids play with. After fillin it with water (placing batteries) it needs to be pumped up before you can use it (called recycle, recycle time) to shoot water. Now a speedlight/strobe then can only fire once at full power. And needs to be pumped again. In HSS, the device uses the power reserve for one full power flash but evenly splits this into a sequence of lesser power flashes. If the camera decides it needs 5 flashes for the settings you caused, then each of those will be 1/5th (max). So, no, it doesn't need to work very hard, but rather just do what it was designed for. The speedlight might need less than full power and then that's what it uses.
Absolutely superb session - it was presented in such a relaxed, humorous and informative style which places a photographer and model at ease. Great explanation of principles related to lighting set ups, especially in a fairly tight space. Thank you!!
I loved this. Great passion and good tips. I shoot ice hockey over here in Australia (got another game on tomorrow) and may just try out a few of those 'unusual shots'.
That's so cool to know that New York City has a nature preserve. I never would have guessed. If I ever visit, I'll definitely need to go there. Great presentation 👏
Not only the masterclass in single lighting but also an attitude towards the end product that is inspiring. Ab, you rock and if you don't mind I am going to borrow some of that delivery ethic from you!
Cool video, love Emily’s work. When the question came in about the color slice and how that affects saturation, I believe it was explained incorrectly. The boundaries of the slice do not affect saturation, the slider does. What the slice boundary affects is how saturated a range of colors will be picked. Hope that makes sense.
Not being able to get the camera connected looked familiar. I had the same thing after updating to Sonoma 14.5. It seems that Capture Ones access to the harddrive and accessibility settings are changed by the update. You have to change them in the system settings. I got that tip from CO support.
Thanks, Brother's, for putting this together. The world has changed since I retired in 2003. I went into fire investigations and went from film to digital. With the introduction of drones, the products available for them are like a treasure hunt. Thanks for putting it in one place, along with your personal views about them. Thanks, Seth for moderating and keeping the production seamless!
When you had the 3 EL1 lights set up you said the system can determine how much light to use with the on camera flash and set the back lights properly. Are. there specific settings in the flash units to make this work. From what you said that is a huge game changer. Thank you for the presentation.
Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm and feedback during the live chat! If you are watching the replay and have a question, feel free to post it here and I'll reply as soon as I can. Thank you for watching 🥰
Been learning from Cliff since I started wedding photography and learn something new every time I watch his stuff! <3 Do you have a link for that drive he showed right at the end, the portable 8TB one? Thank you!
Great session! Thanks for doing this. A question for you: Why not shoot a couple other f-stops, than use the light meter. It seems that the light meter takes time as you review the photo on the computer anyway. Thanks and love your shots.
This is why you ALWAYS watch a demo by the Inspiration Engineer. Even if you know all of this, you still learn something. For me, I never thought to just play with the color balance in post to change the colors. I’d always just re-gel the lighting and take much more time. I’ve bought the Magic of Gels and shoot with gels from time to time, but it never occurred to me to just flip the colors with a slider or two. When I saw her do it, I just realized it's not cheating! It's just being smart! It’s not like I (you) didn’t light it in the first place.
