Welcome to my RU-vid channel, the aim of which is to produce high quality organ videos.
As Director of Music at a leading Catholic co-educational prep school in the UK a significant part of my job is to play the organ for services in our beautiful Georgian chapel, including at Mass every Sunday. Prior to teaching, I was a first-study organist at Southampton University where I was fortunate to study with Stephen Farr and David Owen Norris before becoming a Choral Scholar for a year at Truro Cathedral.
I hope you enjoy these videos and please do subscribe to the channel to stay up to date with the latest uploads. There's a huge amount we can learn from each other!
And another piece added to my 'must learn this soon' list... The performance is just perfect: perfect tempo, registration, ornamentation. Great stuff indeed! (And a great selection of an organ: I do not think this piece sounds anywhere near as good on a romantic/symphonic organ)
Dear Marcus, another great work from the pen of J.S. Bach. Very beautiful, I experience it again and again, his music captivates me very much, as does your interpretation. Many thanks for the beautiful recording and best wishes, Roland
What a beautifully calm sound, Alexandre Guilmant wrote fantastic compositions, unfortunately they are much too difficult for me. Many thanks, dear Marcus, for the very sensitive recording. Kind regards, Roland
It’s amazing that most French romantic music fits very well on this German instrument. Maybe even more than German Romantic music… well played. This is a lovely piece.
Lovely Marcus - some of these little small pieces are real gems. The sample set also sounds very realistic the way you have registered, well done!! :-)
Just such a great piece… I have to learn this now. It was unknown to me! Great playing as always: good choice of organ, tempo and tasteful videography!
Beautiful! And wonderful to hear another composer that is new to me! There are many gems out there like this that deserve to be heard! (I also loved your gently undulating split screen - very cool!)
There is a great deal of lovely music by Loret. I was introduced by a great friend of mine who is a distant relation of Loret. I’ll have to upload more at some point. (And glad you enjoyed the wavy split screen!)
BRAVO! I love this piece - he wrote a few of these (😜) but this is definitely top shelf! Beautifully played and the clarity of the Romsey tuba really suits them!
Johnson and trumpet tunes are synonymous but this is definitely a good one! Thanks for your kind words, Jerry. (Will the tubas at SMR be even better? 😉)
A splendid performance of this classic Johnson work, Marcus: bravo! The wonderful thing about English organ Tubas is the great variety of these powerful solo reeds, from the great big fat sound of some high pressure variants to the more sparkling trumpet variety, as with this fine Romsey Abbey beauty! (I am particularly addicted to the Father Willis Tuba on the Hereford sample set, as it inspired my own 'Tuba Flourish'!)
Thank you, Graham. We are blessed with so many glorious tubas in the UK (I have to confess that Salisbury is another favourite along with the Willis III tuba at St Mary’s Church in Southampton, which is handily extended down to 32’ in the pedal and enclosed in a choir box!). Expect an email about your Tuba Flourish, I might have to add it to my repertoire!
Thanks, Philip. I use a GoPro for the top view which is mounted to the frame of an angle poise lamp. I’ve tried to create a really minimal camera setup that’s not too obtrusive in the room but I’m still not happy with the angle from the right.
This is the most played Trumpet Tune by Johnson. It has a baroque feel to it as well. Thanks for playing it so excellently and sharing it with us all. I hope to catch up with you one day when I pass through London again. (Let's play a duet!)
Praise God for your talents. You even upgraded his fabulous instrument! Now is the time to turn to your creator and sustainer. Time is extremely short for all mankind's eternal soul. That is what Bach's music is all about. You fill in the dots. My prayer is for man to repent as John Baptist preached. Matthew 4:17. God bless you.
Very nice this Adoro te, and yes, it fits fantastically into the sound world of this sample. You have chosen very beautiful organ stops. Best regards, Roland
