Okay, I watched the rest of it to try and give it a fair shake. As someone who is your equal on paper, I will not be watching any more of your videos personally. Some might be able to watch that and aspire to have your blind positivity and false confidence. But this doesn't help me improve. it just alerts me not to look at the score and think I played well. So... thanks for that and I wish you well.

@@xJeRCx thank you for your honesty. The first thing I learned from recording myself, prior to getting into YT, was that while I thought I shot well, I was making a lot of errors. I’d love to watch a match of yours if you have them uploaded. But if you have any ideas or ways I could improve, I’d be all ears. Just saying I have blind positivity and false confidence isn’t helping. Positivity is a benefit to a community that usually focuses on negativity and complaints. False confidence could be a negative to some I bet as that could lead to narcissism or inflated egos. I have confidence in myself but also am very aware of my skills and hindrances.

@Poolside_Chat I thought I was being clear by describing to you what I thought I was watching in a manner that would key you into exactly why I felt like it wouldn't help my game personally. I could sit here and time stamp every shot that had a speed, control, and selection, I thought could have been done in a different way. One that could produce a better, higher percentage outcome. But I feel that is exactly what your commentary should benefit "us" (everyone, including you) My condensed suggestion might be to have a clear and concise goal or lesson planned for your video. Do that without including the part where you mention being out of your slump because you got a large margin win and clue into the fact you were shooting well enough to recover from what could have been your downfalls from a more skilled player. Hope that helps, I might check back at a later point and hope you're not too off put by a comment I felt I needed to write.

@@xJeRCx the day I stop taking constructive feedback is the day I sell my cues. I’m not too big for my britches to listen. I’ve learned from 4’s and heard dumb ideas from 7’s. That’s the beauty of this game. So many ways to work the table therefore your way might work for you but not for others. Or you could’ve done things way different for an easier outcome.

@Poolside_Chat because I jumped in on your videos in the middle of the book, so to speak, I don't know your intentions behind making videos for the internets. I'm glad my comment was eye-catching enough for attention from the creator that thankfully doesn't have too big of an ego to not be able to ask for feedback in a way that would actually provoke me to do so in a thoughtful manner. Thanks for that. I have thought about doing my videos and commentary and have started a list of certain guidelines to adhere to. It takes a lot of work, and I appreciate your efforts. I'm a captain, a coach, and a friend to many. But I also try to see flaws or room for improvement to help create a better pool of knowledge. Don't know if I'll ever do it "correctly" Or if I'm correct in my ways, but I'm pretty sure I got you thinking something! Just hope it impacts you in a positive way for what your trying to achieve.

@@xJeRCx if you have any questions about how to get started, I can tell you what little I’ve learned along the way from other creators. If you do start a channel, let me know and I’ll sub. Not in a pissing match to prove anything, I think we can all learn from each other. I also know a 7/8 in my area will not be a 7/8 in others. Maybe 7/9 in weaker markets, probably 6/7 or lower in tougher areas. Like you said, on paper we might be equals but I guarantee we aren’t just because of our market variances and different experiences.

I'm gonna keep watching, it's the beginning of rack three and so far I'm thinking it's funny how the video is titled. Should be something along the lines of... sometimes it doesn't matter, you're not getting the win. You are a good shot maker, but you played poorly on over 50٪ of your shots in every aspect other than making good shots and getting lucky. I've been guilty of this myself, but I wouldn't be commentating my game as if I was playing well in the slightest
@georgepotter353
@georgepotter353 День назад
there is a lesson in this match that if he's smart he'll learn from. It's not that he got his ass kicked, but it's what you did to him. No hero shots. Not a high percentage shot for you, good defense locked him up and you got many ball in hands. THAT should be the lesson he learned. Don't play like a f'in gorilla and think you can make a ball on every shot. Learn good defense for when it can help you go from a bad situation to a good situation. As an fyi... I have a buddy that I practice with a few times a month. In that practice we'll play an entire game with each of us using a bridge on every shot, and we'll play an entire rack of 9 ball where made balls are spotted (actually, tossed back onto the table) and you get a point for locking your opponent up making him kick for his next shot. You get to continue shooting on a made ball, but you don't shoot until the made ball is tossed back onto the table. Missed shots (not kicking at) just a loss of turn as normal. But, you want to learn cue ball control to hide the cue for your opponents next shot. We play to 5 because we're both guys that float back and forth between 5/6, so we don't want to be at one game all day. I'm sure an 8/9 could go to 10 points in a heart beat. BTW, just as in a normal game, ball in hand to your opponent will kill you. Just saying :) I disagree with you somewhat about using a push shot benefiting higher than lower ranked player. Being a lower ranked player doesn't have to make you dumb. When I started out as a 3 in cash league, I was really good at understanding and using a push shot. I was also smart enough to call safe, make a ball and leave my opponent hooked. Agree with making open after the break. That punishes everyone. Congrats to the kid. Avoided the skunk :) Sorry you missed out ton the patch though. I got a skunk patch as a three against a 5. It was just one of those games everything worked for me, everything cluster f'ed for him on every miss from me. Nothing to do with my skills, but all about the pool gods bending his ass over a barrel the entire match.. And, I had just joined that team as a recommended 'good 3 that's gonna stay a 3 for a while, but will move up'. The team needed a 3. I was a 5 by end of session and had to leave the team because we couldn't make numbers, plus I wanted to join a different team.

@@Poolside_Chat I misstated a bit. Your not shooting rotation, your shooting each shooting at solids trying to snooker the stripe. You get a point for the snooker. Again, a made ball is tossed back on the table. When you do snooker, your opponent should make a valid attempt at hitting the striped ball. Wherever balls end up after that is where your opponent makes his snooker attempt from.

Just a quick note for ya... Shorten up your bridge length (between the place the cue is resting on your bridge hand and the end of your stroke right before it contacts your cue ball). That distance should be 6-10 inches. You frquently have 15-20 bridge lengths which don't allow for a complete stroke or a level stroke. That, combined with NOT resting your cue on the felt for rail shots have caused you to miss many shots. I actually carry a slick peice of cloth for valley tables. I put it down on the rubber of the pockets or the metal, so I can rest my cue on the actual table, instead of it rubbing and hindering my shots. These 2 issues, when you fix them, will result in many more made shots. Good luck to you and keep hitting the balls. You are on the edge of becoming a better player.
@Poolside_Chat
@Poolside_Chat 5 дней назад
@@JWRobinson1967 I lengthened my bridge because I used to be one of those 2-3” away players and super stabby. I clearly went too far haha. I used to play with a 4” mid cue extension too. Now I just have a 30” shaft and am working on closing the gap to a correct 4-5 balls (8-10” as you said). But I’m so busy with playing and YT, I haven’t had a proper practice session to set it to muscle memory. But it’s my main focus moving forward! Good tip on the rail shot but I’m so used to shoddy tables where there’s a lip on the wood to rail gap that I’ve clipped it and caused miscues. So I hold it a few mm’s above.

Here's a test for you . Place an object ball on the head string about a ball from the long rail. Place the cue ball roughly 1 diamond behind it , set up for a straight - in shot to the corner pocket 6 diamonds away along the same side rail . If you strike the cue ball with follow and hit it JUST hard enough to reach the pocket ... how far will the cue ball roll ? The answer is ONE diamond.If it rolls farther than that , it will be because of excess speed over and above POCKET speed . It travels one sixth as far as the object ball . ALWAYS . 6 to 1 ratio . Constant . Table speed doesn't matter , because it affects both balls equally. Would have been useful on that final 4 ball you shot. Pocket speed , and the cue ball would have rolled 2 to 4 INCHES . Even slightly harder and it would not have scratched . Try it yourself & you'll never forget it when it matters. I LOVE your channel , Todd ! Seriously , make that tool a part of your arsenal .

I'm not usually overly negative about people's games but it's honestly quite surprising that this player is even a 6 with as bad of a stroke as he has. Lifting the cue way up in the air like that is a sign of either tightening the grip when hitting the cue ball or dropping the shoulder, if not both...stroke flaws that are usually corrected early on when getting better at the game. Then there's the overshooting every shot that he takes on top of that, so having an even halfway decent game is at least a bit impressive I suppose.

Lower arm was perfectly parallel to the cue without being a bit forwards or backwards and his wrist was completely straight with no pronation or supination. No shoulder drop on his stroke either. I noticed you got pretty upset on a few shots you missed. (I'm still guilty of that and I'm in my seventies Lol) it may be something you want to work on. Pool is a mental game and controlling your emotions is very important. Maybe look at some videos that can help with that. Just a thought!

I need to learn to meditate!! I’m a passionate player and ultra competitive so I definitely let my emotions get the better of me in the moment. After, I’ll laugh about it while editing and think “yeah, you’re not a pro… so what.”
