She should read that!” And you would then say exactly what I was thinking, I pissed myself when you mentioned Rick Rubin’s Creative Act! As you know this process is so very disorienting disconcerting, painful with the seeking and questioning . But the fruit… the freedom, the growth … wow. 1. The general, 'masculine' cosmos and the special, 'feminine' Earth (Gen 1:1); 2. The Earth, as its own general subject, and its special kind of material wealth: its abiding maximal abundance of open liquid water (v. 2); 3. That water, in general, and its cycling (the water cycle, vs. 3-10); 4. The water cycle, in general, and its beneficiaries: biological life (vs. 11-12); 5. Biological life, in general, and its special category, animal biology (vs. 20-25); 6. Animals, in general, and its special category, humans (vs. 26-29); 7. The general human and the special...woman (Genesis 2:7-25) This pairing sequence is itself paired with the fact there are ONLY FIVE names that Genesis 1 reports that God gives to five things. And, these things seem to be the Earth's own prime three dynamic, feminine subsystems of its water cycle: 1. the thermally regulative day/night cycle ('day' and 'night', v. 5); 2. the thermally regulative atmosphere ('shamayim', v. 8; NOT 'ha-shamayim', for, the latter is general sky, like in Gen 2:4a); 3. the land/sea surface thermal exchange system ('earth' and 'seas', v. 10). If these three sets of things are what these verses are reporting, then it finds analogy in Adam's later naming Woman (Genesis 2:23) I think she, likewise, names him. Of course, the text does not say she did. But the text also does not say she had feet. And, of course, she had feet. These things are the Earth's own basic, feminine subsystems for handling the Sun's radiation for benefit of life on Earth. This is why Genesis 1 says that God saw that the light (v. 3) was good. For the 'light' is in the prior context of the Earth and its wealth of water. It is not (repeat, not) physical light unto itself that Gad called good. It is the relation which the light has for the potential for water-based life on Earth. For, tellingly, the Genesis 1 account does not report that God names gravity, or light, or even water. Only of day-and-night, as such, and the atmosphere, and of land and sea.
While my education, career and relationships have brought a sense of meaning to my life, they have never been able to fulfill it. I am much happier when I place less expectations on achievements to meet my needs, because ultimately they can’t. Learning new skills, working in cool jobs, and sharing life with people we love are all worthwhile pursuits. Though to me, nothing is better than loving your life through the highs and lows. When you have “everything” and when it seems you don’t have “much” by society’s standards. Can you relate to striving after things that ended up still leaving you with an empty feeling? If you want to experience the deep peace, joy, gratitude and awareness that comes from encountering God, then my only advice is this: SLOW DOWN. As John Mark Comer says in his book “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry”, “Hurry is the death of prayer and only impedes and spoils our work. It never advances it.” If you have trouble saying no (like me) and often find yourself stressed, exhausted and racing through your life, I invite you to take some time and reflect on why that is. Is it due to… A scarcity mindset: fear of missing out on opportunities if you don’t say yes, because they might not come again Misplaced worth: the need to prove yourself through productivity, be seen balancing everything successfully Poor prioritization: an inability to see what is a priority versus what isn’t, because you have trouble people pleasing and setting boundaries Perhaps you struggle with one of these; perhaps you struggle with all three. Whatever the reason, it’s important to take time to be alone-to reflect, journal, and really think about what you’re doing day-to-day. Although this might feel like “wasted time” at first glance, it’s actually incredibly useful, clarifying, and productive. And taking this time is essential to unhurrying the pace of your life. Whew. Currently going through what feels like the THICK of my 20s rn. Loneliness, grad school transitions, navigating dating, losing & building new bonds, maintaining long distance friendships, relearning my personality as an adult, lifestyle changes…..the list goes on. Alongside journaling, songwriting, & yapping on FaceTime, it’s been most helpful to simply let myself CRY things out as I’m experiencing the discomfort of all the major life changes. i've never found a video as accurate as what ive experienced for the past 12 years as this i just have to say that ive been in this situation since 2011, my intrusive thoughts would always creep in to worsen it i would always feel alone because i never had anyone in my life to talk to about it especially as someone who lives in a catholic-centric country who studied in a catholic school born and raised in a catholic family i remember my mom throwing me our bible and would advice me to just read it if only this video existed when i was 15 years old instead of just hitting my head multiple times in our bathroom i've learned to manage it 10 years later, but i'd still have episodes of it that would question morals, laws, and philosophies that would lead me to a dark place (again) consumed with intrusive thoughts i would look at the sky and would just shout internally -- what is free will what is god where is god why are we even here and why did god choose this life for me why am i having these thoughts if god is real why is he letting me experience this hell it's true that it really feels repetitive and claustrophobic im glad youtube recommended me this in a drew gooden video... and i feel so safe you're articulating everything i've thought and suffered through so well

This is a good quote actually and it stuck with me after you commented yesterday! I do see the danger of this kind of complacency happening in a time of questioning like the one I’m going through, and this quote was a wake up call to me. The one thing I’ll say is that I’m in conversations with many other people about this journey, Christians and non-christians. I think reaching out to community is very important. However, I also see that some of my spiritual practices have slipped away, and this is a reminder for me to not let uncertainty be the excuse for letting that happen. -Darcie
