I served from 81 to 85 on the USS Okinawa in deck department the working hours were long out at sea and you didn't get paid overtime I made more money in civilian life I work overtime in civilian life you get paid for it most of the time 8 hour days and go home Monday thru Friday yes the benefits are good for the military even the jobs I have in civilian life I didn't mind paying for my insurance also there is no ucmj out here if you do something wrong out here the worst they can do is fire you I don't regret joining the navy I did enjoy the ports have visited and met someone from every state in the nation I had no intention of 20 years

Other than being sexually threatened when I got to the Nimitz, it was still a cool ship. I was on her in 2003-2004 as an Airman. Shes a magnificent piece of machinery and born the same year I was which was cool. Hooyah! Stay safe shipmates. 🇺🇸

I believe these older class carriers will be important in future conflicts as the U.S.'s enemies will most likely use EMP technologies against the newest carriers.

trust me that excitement is only for a few days..😂 when fatigue kicks in when you work at least 13 hours a day 7 days a week.. it sucks.. people onboard ships are one of the hardest jobds in the military..
