I am an outdoor enthusiast living in South Africa. I am passionate about camping, overlanding, mountain biking, photography, and the African bush. Give me a camera, a cold beer, and a warm campfire, and I am in my happy place.
I drive a Ford Ranger Thunder Edition double-cab truck, camp in a Metalian Bowhunter camping trailer, and I ride a Yeti ASR Enduro carbon fibre dual-suspension mountain bike.
I shoot all of my videos and photographs on a Canon EOS R mirrorless camera, a GoPro Hero 11 Black, a GoPro Hero 7 Black, a GoPro Hero 4 Session, a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone, and my iPhone 13 Pro.
Join me on my adventures around South Africa and beyond.

@@linkcubuspark We didn’t fix it to the bed. I didn’t want to drill holes through the body work. The weight of the drawer is enough to keep it down in place.
@@rosafunchal1151 Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Much appreciated. The Lebombo Trail is definitely a bucket list item and well worth doing!
@@wiganrugby yes, we aired down to 1.7 bar. Definitely needed. Some very rocky sections and also a few soft sand sections as well. Thanks for watching! 😊
@@hardusvanniekerk3948 Indrive a Ford Ranger, so my mate was just trying to take the mickey. Our trail guide was very complimentary of the Ford’s. How did you find towing on the trail?
@@CampSeekerAfrica I though it was just nice pickering😀 2x Rangers 2x hilux 1x Amarok and hilux of the Honorary Ranger. We did a strech in a riverbed with big losse rocks that took slow going with the trailers. 4 of the 5 vehicle towed. Only the ranger and the Amarok did not tow. 3 trailers and a conquerer caravan. We all was fine. There is a video from conquerer caravans with a vehicle coming down that look if it's going to fall over. That was taken on the route. One puncher plugged, One Amaroks tyre written off.
Brilliant video and detailed account of our epic Lebombo Overlanding trip. It was an awesome adventure filled with spectacular sights and fantastic people! Thank you for capturing everything in such great detail Richard! You're a LEGEND!
Hi bud. We can help you with that, but only if you are based in Joburg. We would likely have to build it over 2 (possibly 3) weekends (my partner and I both have regular jobs, and as this is a sideline, we can only work over weekends). It is a custom build, so would need your vehicle to ensure a proper fit. We would have to buy all of the components upfront, meaning we need a deposit, and total price would be R15,000. As it is a custom build we can design it with any unique requirements you might have.
😊 good question! I don’t do all of my trips alone - only occasionally. I have a family and do many of my trips with them. Occasionally however, they aren’t able to join me and so I will do a solo trip.
@@Averagemobileeditor Might be going back to Tambuki in the Sondela Nature Reserve at the end of July. Then going back to Kruger in November for a long weekend.
Thanks for the constructive feedback. Noted on the repetitive commentary - I realised that as I was editing the video. I do have a tendency to repeat myself, so definitely something to work on!
Hi, How have you found the reliability of your Ford for camping in the bush? I have a 2021 Everest 2.0 bi-turbo with a 10-speed transmission and want to take trips to Bots and Kalagadie, but I am still a bit nervous. I must also add that I am towing a Companion camper as well.
I personally haven’t had any issues with my Ranger. I also have the 2.0 bi-turbo engine. I sometimes tow my Metalian trailer on trips and So far I’ve not had a problem with reliability. Check out Jason from Epic Africa’s page. He was driving the 2.0 bi-turbo Raptor for a while and he did a number of Kgalagadi trips whilst towing a Bush Lapa caravan, so I am sure you won’t have any issues with reliability.
Late to the party, Nice set up. Quick question, would this be able to fit a 90L National Lunar. I already have a 90L fridge with I use together with the 40L National Lunar fridge on long trips. I am looking into a small off-road trailer that can fit a 90L.
Good question. I’ve got a 70l NL which fits perfectly - there isn’t a lot of room left over though, so I don’t think a 90 would fit to be honest, but I might be wrong. I would suggest checking the specs of the trailer on the Metalian website.
Great channel just subscribed planning on starting to camp out with my little family, thanks for the options of campsites & the much needed info in seting up our Bakkies.Lekker🇿🇦
An absolute pleasure. Thanks for watching and I am glad you enjoy the content and find it useful. Good luck with your camping adventures- you are going to love it!
Mine is a 4x2. Depending on the type of overlanding you want to do and types of places you want to go, a 4x4 is not strictly necessary. A 4x4 is nice though as it opens up a lot more options!
Both actually 😊 The herd moved off so we couldn’t see them anymore, but we chatted to a ranger about it at the next camp and he said a birth can take hours, so we likely wouldn’t have seen it anyway before we had to move on. We had sat there for about 45 minutes watching her and nothing much changed in that time before the herd moved off.
Thanks for watching, and for the comment. Much appreciated. The racks I had installed by Front Runner, in Kyalami. You can buy the racks and install them yourself, but for me it was easier just to get Front Runner to fit them for me. The drawer system in the back of the vehicle, I built and fitted myself with a mate.
No, I use the Jackery to charge my cellphone, watch, camera batteries etc. the fridge is running off my National Luna DC25 battery box with a 100Ah dry cell battery in it. The NL battery box is fitted in the rear of the vehicle.
Howzit. No, the starter battery and the battery in the NL DC25 don’t have to be the same. I have a 100Ah dry cell battery in the DC25 (it can also take lithium). Not sure what my starter battery is to be honest. But the DC25 is wired to the starter battery and alternator via an under-chassis wiring harness, so it charges while driving.
Lucky lion sighting. We have had a few visits where we see no cats, and then at other times we see them around every corner. Thanks for sharing your trip. Can’t wait to get out there again
It’s all luck of the draw! Sometimes you get lucky, other times not. We’d spend 6 days in the park prior to this sighting not seeing any cats - and got treated with a lekker sighting on our way out 😊
