I’d give my right tit for a seat in the cab. I grew up in Kyle when the proper diesel locos were still being used. I was a kid in the 80s and used to hang about the station waiting for them to come in from Inverness…..the smell and the noise of the 37s is something I’ll always love.
Wonderful views not spoiled by trees running wild like on the West Highland line. Although Scot Rail could be given some chivviing to get on with some pruning before nature takes over completely as on the WHL. Lovely video. Thanks. Rmb
You are right, they are set against the movement. They are hydro-pneumatic, self restoring points on all of the loops. So when the trains travels over them, they get pushed across then self restore.
Snow on the line you say? A 37 with a plough you say? Let's give that snow a bit of notch 8 and blast into the farm 7 acres away . What a fantastic piece of engineering ,yes a bit smokey but just magnificent.
That is more than competent, at first I thought you were standing on something very high it was such a perfect shot! Can you remember it it was dead calm then?
Thank you so for this. A few years ago on a coach holiday one of the highlights was this journey but it was completely spoiled by two couples who were obviously not interested in the view and spent the whole journey loudly shouting and laughing.
The Kyle and Wick/ Thurso lines from Inverness are controlled by the Radio Electronic Token Block signalling system. Because the system involves frequent voice calls between signaller and drivers over the radio the film is silent to safeguard security.
Some cuttings would not have remained stable for much longer without them! Shows that these lines do get investment - and that in the aftermath of the Carmont derailment earthworks stability is being taken more seriously.
@@tonywise198 That's Thomas's point. He mutes the sound. Because this one is mute, he doesn't have to, and he isn't missing anything. I don't usually mute the sound. But that means any ad that breaks in is very loud and very annoying. Because this one has no sound, I can mute it and I know I won't miss anything---and I won't be annoyed by loud ads.
Great video, thanks. The weather can change quickly up there in Scotland. Wonderful views of the countryside. Shame that the way to Skye is now mainly by road.
I now have the perfect video to get to sleep! This isn't a criticism, I'm an insomniac and your vids do the job. Thanx Someone mentioned music, something like Enya would be excellent.
Absolutely stunning imagery of this magnificent structure, it's such an important piece of engineering and in my view, enhances the beautiful landscape of the area.
Fantastic shot of Culloden viaduct. The vast expanse of the countryside is a marvellous backdrop to the masterpiece of the viaduct. Makes you realise how man is so ingenious yet so inconsequential all at the same time.....
Nope, inconsequential perhaps harsh, considering the mess we inherited a million years ago we have achieved one hell of a lot! All you see from that shot is 'our' doing, it feeds us, it provides accommodation, it is truly beautiful how 'we' have taken a canvas and painted our version, for the time being!!!
Thank.you.for this video. It was a very nice travel in the north of Scotland. The day was splendid, not common in the.Moray county. I suppose thar the railway line.finish at Aberdeen ?
