I'm Gabe. I write. I read. I edit. And then I talk about it all across the interwebs.
My next novel, THE WICKED BARGAIN, is a YA Fantasy about a trans pirate trying to survive the aftermath of a devil deal gone wrong while hiding magic that could get them killed. It'll be out in 2022 from Random House Children's!
My YA Sci-Fi trilogy, beginning with BEYOND THE RED, was published under my former pseudonym, Ava Jae by Skyhorse Publishing.
Just to add something: fiction and writing is also about modeling behavior for others, especially YA fiction, but also fiction in general. People tend to repeat actions and behaviors from books TV movies things online. Human beings are impressionable. For example the show Breaking Bad caused a huge spike in users and manufacturers of meth and other drugs because it just made it look like a cool thing to do (for some people at least).
I’ve searched this up, because for term two and one I got the highest average of writer a story in composition. Therefore, the teacher left a note that said something like this “Dear, Tina I truly think your going to succeed in life as a writer and I know one day you will be one”. Then my friends assumed since I was so good a writing, that I’m going to be a writer
How do I know I am a writer. I constantly rewrite scenes from movies, tv shows, or games to fit how I think things should go. I sometimes anticipate how a show or movie will end on the basis of how I think it should end. I write.
Ma'am, is there a difference between journalistic writing and novel/fiction writing? Would you call both a writer? Would you agree with the quote that "Journalism is literature in a hurry?"
I just thought of some fun variations of these. Have the death not matter at all to the protagonist and this makes the protag question his value system. Why didn't it matter? It should have. What path am I going down? I'm thinking Breaking Bad, where Walt decides to let Jessie's girlfriend die in bed. At that moment he truly became Heisenberg. As for bringing them back, make it where it doesn't work this one time. People have become used to bringing back the dead but this one time it fails. Something like this was done in one of the Clint Eastwood movies (Good the Bad and the Ugly?) where he was going to shoot the rope his friend was being hanged on. No reprieve. Dead. It was done again in the Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves movie. The whole thrust of the movie was the protag looking for a magic item to bring his wife back to life. He gets it, but then other things happen.
Im currently writing an adventure book and planning two more after it. Ive got the main story and plot, since only two characters are needed, i have alot of characters i can kill of to make it suspenseful
This was and is really great information and I will definitely watch again. Maybe a suggestion to slow down your speaking a bit. I had to rewind a couple of times to catch some of the important information you were sharing. Thank you for shedding light on this much needed topic. Green Fire Motivation
Ironically, in the Game of Thrones books, we do have one revived character, Lady Stoneheart whom you had known as Catelyn Stark, but I actually like this resurrection because the revival actually has a price. Instead of being the same old Catelyn Stark, Lady Stoneheart is colder and harsher and filled with vengeance. It's amazing how George R.R. Martin writes resurrections so well. Unlike some two showrunners who revived a certain character and does nothing with it
I am writing my manuscript in close 3rd (About 1/2 way done with draft), and it was suggested because I'm a gay man writing m/m romance I should try first person, especially since my characters are facing adversities I did in the early 2000s. Book takes place in 1998, characters are in their mid-30s. I tried to convert the first two chapters and it felt weird and clunky to me. I don't know why. It just didn't feel right. So, I'm writing in close 3rd person. I'd like to do first person, but I'd have to try to learn a new style and not sure if the story would be better for it since it is dual POV.
Yeah, I'm a writer. When I hear writers telling me I need to read a lot of fiction just to be able to write, I laugh. Reading and writing are two separate functions in the brain. If you want to write at all, if you want to write better, you need to get off your duff and write. I've done that exclusively for 13 years. It landed me my contracts. Buying someone's fiction and reading it didn't.
THanks for this. I had come up with an idea to create my first story ever but then i realized that there have been shows and books that already came up with it. Very similar to my premise but my plot would take place with different scenarios and settings, and much more. I was really worried if I am taking someones idea, but i never took anyone's idea if i happen to come up with the same as them. But more importantly i dont want to change it. Maybe this is just me as a amateur writer, and should realize that this is normal. Thanks for this.
Hey! I'm new to your channel (and I know this video is 9 months old). However, I wanted to say Congratulations on your new book!!! 🎉 I read the first chapter, and I'm planning on getting The Wicked Bargain really soon. Excited to read it!

My solvings in my story for these: 1 - Describing MC in the mirror "I was met with my brother's light blue eyes, which we both inherited from our mother." "[Love interest]'s hand brushed through my jet black hair that I always let fall onto my shoulders." 2 - Starting with MC waking up Uhm I didn't solve this but I did introduce MC's brother and sorta told how bad the mom was 3 - Curing MC In my book, I'm going to try to write the love interest to introduce more problems for the MC. 4 - Magic cure Not doing it because MC grew up in a household where he basically sold his body- It left PERMANENT body issues and fear of older men and women- Strangely, not enby people
