Nice camping spot and enjoyed your trip. First time the resistance putting the side poles is a bit of a concern - to avoid too much tension (and snapping), feed the rod through whilst simultaneously drawing the canvas into which you are threading, through. This reduces strain on pole. When inserted draw canvas back into the middle, yes its tight but needed for the overall construction - just go steady and there's absolutely no problems. You're very unlucky boys, I ve had my Goose tent over 4 years with multiple set ups - soon loading for a month in France - not the slightest of problems, the quality all round is superb. Don't be put off if you think the quality is suspect, it really is a brilliant, high quality product and the sleep experience, especially ventilation and keeping out the sunlight, is second to none. Go steady with the poles and you will have years of fun.
Thanks Steve, you could have mentioned this before our trial run 🤣 Since that video however, our toucans have been returned to wingman due to other reasons. A month riding in France sounds fab, the balcony roads are on our list 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
You love the triumph again….what do you think of the road 6’s I was thinking of getting them but Paul convinced me to get the Metzlers which I find just as good as the road 5’s… give me your thought once you put some miles in👍
Always loved the Triumph and there lies the problem as to why I find it hard to trade it in 🤔 The Michelin road 6 are fab compared to the Mitas E07+ on the road of course and makes the Tiger feel like a bike again rather than a tractor 🤣 and seems to work better with firmer suspension settings but if the need arises again for a 50/50 tyre the Mitas would be the go-to tyre for me ... Thanks for watching 👍
Got myself a Toucan (even if only myself) will sleep in there). Ditched the foam mattress and their bag though. I will roll it in such a way that the width remains at 90cm. My hard pannier setup on my bike measures 90 cm accross anyway, so the diameter is down to 30 cm uncompressed right now. I have to put on my bike (ride a Yamaha Tracer 700) how it works. The mattress is the real problem, as I have decided on a Outwell Dreamcatcher, also 90 cm wide. Most likely, I have to ditch my topcase. But I can live with that. My sleeping bag packs super tiny (comfort is only around 20 degrees, which is fine for me). One of the panniers will be occupied by my cot (yes, I put that whole thing onto a Klymit Cedar Mesa 90 cm wide cot). There will still be some space left in that pannier. Other pannier will take my other things, plus a tankbag has to do. We shall see how this plays out. We do not intend to cook, so it might work. No kitchen sind for me, I guess...but we exclusively camp on German campgrounds anyway. If there is space for one of those tiny gas cookers, I will bring it. Sounds wild, but it looks really good right now.
I googled your replacements regarding the mattress, sleeping bag and cot and have to say, that compared to the standard wingman kit, you'll be Glamping 5* 😌 looks fab 😊 Wishing you a great trip and hope you enjoy your setup ... Thanks for watching 👍
@@gtube153 Thanks. By now, I packed the whole thing up and it came out the exact same dimensions as my luxurious sleeping mat. So now easily stackable in front of my topbox (which I was prepared to leave at home. Now it most likely will be empty, which is not a bad thing). After reconsidering, I turned the groundsheet into an additional tarp by adding several webbing tabs with eyelets. Also added some more tarp sticks to hold up the thing. This way, my husband and I will have a nice, comfortable sitting area with more than enough shadow and rain protection (I made it so that rain can flow down from the black tarp over the olive one attached to my tent and flow down. It was not difficult to do, and it adds more versatility to their tents. As the groundsheet became a tarp, I also carefully removed the fastening cobra straps and replaced them with ugly generic, neon-orange tightening straps. Which are 200 gr lighter. If it works as intended, I might show it to Wingman of the Road.
Just as of today my '22 Monkey has stopped beeping when i arm/disarm the alarm... Ever hear of this happening? I didn't find anything on Google as yet.
Hi, is your alarm actually arming ? maybe the batteries in the fob have expired, then check the fuse and the contacts to the alarm unit or if your Monkey is still under warranty contact your Honda dealer. Hope you manage to fix it 🤞 ... Thanks for watching 👍
@@gtube153 it looks to be arming since the red light starts flashing as per usual. There is no sound for the "answer back" either so I'm wondering if the beeper has died... The bike is 2 years old now so unfortunately not under warranty.
Hi, yes the db killer is still in, the exhaust has only been on the bike for four months so the condition is still good, with that said though, there is some discolouration from heat and the " Dominator " sticker has peeled off ! ... Thanks for watching 👍
Interesting video. You should use guyline hitches on the top and bottom guys. Makes tensioning the guys easier and shorter, less tripping hazard. I do like the extra set of poles for the awning but I prefer to use the bike and a slack line on one end just in case it rains and the water can drain off. VERY interesting tip about the boots, I'll try that next time.
Thanks for the tip about the guy line hitches 😊 The poles that we used have three sections and we do the same on one side by removing a section so the rain can run off ... Thanks for watching 👍
The new Wingman Toucan comes with a second canvas flap at the awning side which allows you to keep the awning attached to the bike and close the tent opening or if you prefer, roll the second flap up and use the fly screen during better weather 😄 ... Thanks for watching 👍
I'm going to add a better sleeping bag and a Kilos Gear air mattress to my Toucan when I get it. The included pad and sleeping bag won't work for my needs, but packing everything in the tent is pretty cool. No need to buy a Kreiga US40 to put all my camping gear, remove that bag and the tent pays it self 😂
Yes I agree, although wingman state the sleeping bag is only a 2-3 season bag, I found that even at around 10°c I was cold during the night. The foam mattress was ok if the ground was reasonably flat but for us, the simplicity of everything rolled up into one unit was the selling point ... Unfortunately however, both Toucans have since been returned to wingman due to a problem with water ingress ... Thanks for watching 👍
@@gtube153 if I look at the price, my North Face Stormbreak 3, air mattress and -18° sleeping bag is probably a better choice. I just need a Kreiga US40 to carry it all right now, it makes no sense to buy a tent that I'm going to take apart 🤣
The leaking seams were really bad, to the point where we were only left with maybe 40cm of dry mattress. The mattress and sleeping bag soaked up water from both sides with water underneath the mattress also. Wingman identified a problem with the seams and issued us with a refund ... Thanks for watching 👍
@gtube153 thanks for the reply. I'm really torn now as I really like concept but if it lets in water then it fails on first principle. I do have a tarp I could put over if it rains but it's just more faffery...
Don’t rate those tents at all, too expensive, too bulky, too heavy, & just too small for all that shit. Wild country tents all the time for me . All the best lads .
Hi Neil, we appreciate that everyone has their own preferences and at the time the wingman tents suited our needs, unfortunately we had a problem with water ingress on both tents and these have now been returned to wingman. I've had a quick search on wild country tents and will certainly check them out further if we plan some more moto camping trips ... Thanks for watching 👍
Hi, yes both tents were seasoned before our trip and both tents leaked in the same area, Wingman identified a problem with seam stitching. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Dezziedaxrider, our monkey era has come to an end I'm afraid but had enormous fun while we had them and quite miss them to be honest. If the need or opportunity arises in the future though, they would be at the top of the list 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
This will sound crazy, I was checking for tyre reviews for my monkey when I realised that I owe that EXACT same monkey in the video, the same number plate!! 😮 How many miles did you have on it before you sold it? 😅
Hi Dr. H, Wow what's the odds, great to know though and hope the Monkey gives you as much fun as it gave us 😁 I can't remember exactly the milage but I'm sure it was around the 15000m range, maybe a little more 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍
It’s a lovely little thing, I have put almost 3k more miles on it with a big smile on my face. Changing the tyres now to Michellin again, great content, cheers
Hi Markrobertson5305, for us the tents have never really been that wet when they've been rolled up, we have always been lucky enough to have dried them out slightly before hand. Its a good point though and certainly food for thought 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍
I brought mine home from my first trip absolutely soaked, and the sleeping bag and mattress were fine, a little damp but thats to be expected. Just dry your tent out after returning home and youve got nothing to worry about
@@max8519 on a trip of many days and nights in wet weather a damp bed is a worry. It's a tempting thing. But a separate tent and bag may be better for me. Thanks.
Hi midnightrider287, we are quite local to Consett and you're quite right also, we have some great roads especially to the west heading towards the Pennines 😁 ... Thanks for watching 👍
It took a couple of minutes to realise that I was running out of fuel, Oh how I love the good old fashioned fuel tap for reserve 🤣 Thanks for watching 👍
Far too big a pack size and too heavy for my liking taking up too much space on the bike, I'll be getting the Lone Rider Adventure, pack size 44x15cm and only 3,5kg not 13kg .
There's no arguing that the Wingman is on the large size ( these are the larger two man Toucan tents ) However, we like the simplicity the Wingman offers with the mattrass and sleeping bag rolled up inside, we just added an inflatable pillow. I think the Wingman is perfect for touring when overnighting for one maybe two nights but not so practical if you're staying for longer periods due to the internal size. Hope you have some great rides and great times with your set up ... Thanks for watching 👍
We only had the ABS light problem when both the sprocket and tyre size were changed, once the correct size tyres were put back on, the light went off even with the 14 tooth front sprocket still on the bike 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍
@@gtube153 - Big Rodders in Ireland here. I'm experimenting with sprocket sizes as a prelude to fitting 70 profile street tyres. With standard tyres running a 16 tooth sprocket I had no instances of the ABS light coming on. However, with a 14 tooth sprocket and travelling at a constant 50mph GPS speed the light does illuminate occasionally. My understanding is that the ABS is not operational when the light flashes. My real concern is that there may be insurance implications if tyre sizes are changed - any views?
Hi Big Rodders 👋 We learned over time that the ABS on the Monkey is operated via the IMU and is designed to stop less experienced riders from going over the handlebars if they grab to much front brake, it doesn't work nearly as good as conventional ABS so be careful when riding in the rain or any slippery conditions even when the ABS light is out ! Quote taken from Honda " The single-channel ABS is controlled by an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) so the rear of the bike won’t lift under heavy braking ". As for your insurance concerns, we all know that insurance companies globally use the internationally recognised #1 code of practice " Use ANY EXCUSE not to pay out on a claim " . So I guess because we've changed the vehicle from the manufacturers specifications, tyres, front sprockets etc, the insurance companies could try that as an excuse ? You've certainly opened the proverbial can of worms there ... But of course, they would need to know this first, would they check the bike 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍
There's still a little life left in the KLE ... According to @firebladeboy.539 He bought the bike in 2020, painted it blue and shipped it off to Spain 😎 Lucky KLE 😁 ... Thanks for watching 👍
From what I remember the top speed was around 25 Knots which would be about 29 MPH, but that was when conditions were just right ! Prop pitch and engine trim also play a big factor 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍
nice vid, got a good "real feel" for the tyres through the eyes of a rider. just bought a tiger 1200 that needs new tyres and trying to decide which way to go. liked , subscribed and all that.
Thanks for your great comment 😁 When the Michelin tyres needed replaced, I too put on a set of the Mitas E07+ and opted for the Dakar version with 2 ply's of Aramid for better resistance to punctures, on my 2nd set now. Great 50/50 tyre when you want to explore that little further but will never come close to a 100% road tyre in terms of grip, braking etc so adjusting the riding style to suit the tyres is a must 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍
The irony of the guy trying to warn you and he ended up the distraction, had he not been you you probably would of seen it a lot sooner. Strange how that works, he was obviously trying to do you a favour. 😀
I must admit I really fancy one of these. I live in rural Lincolnshire where most roads are 60 mph speed limit or less and usually covered in assorted farm yard stuff. Iv got an old Harley which I dont ride in the winter, One of these would make a great all year bike for my needs. Iv had a sit on one and a test ride is due. Many Thanks for a great informative video as opposed to the usual reviews.
Hi timholt2907, thanks for your kind comment 😁 I think it sounds like you've pretty much already made your mind up ... best take your debit card with you when you go for that test ride 🤣 I remember feeling quite at home on the Himalayan and such an easy bike to ride ... Thanks for watching 👍
Pretty badly if I'm completely honest but it was purely because of being cold 🥶 I think that night the temperature was around 6-7°c ... The mattress was comfy enough and there was plenty of room inside the sleeping bag being the Toucan but just not warm enough ( for me ? ) Wingman does state on their website however that the sleeping bag is only a 2-3 season bag. So we have now bought an additional sleeping bag and put this inside the original making it altogether more cosy 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
Hi David, I think its fab we've been discovered from down under and pretty amazing its from a fellow Geordie 😁 Hope you've enjoyed our vids so far 🤔 There are a few videos on our channel that feature Newcastle and surrounding areas that could hopefully bring back some fond memories for you ( if you watch them 🤣 ) ... Thanks for watching 👍
Hi BazzaB1971, the branch was lying on Church Street near to Castleside Cemetery and you're right the other road is the B6296 from Satley to Lanchester 😁 I hope you studied this training video carefully and now feel confident while out on these crazy roads 🤣🤣 Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Bill, I only had an hour for the test ride and not sure if there were any green lanes locally 🤔 I got the impression off-roading was a no-no during test rides anyhow 🤷♂️ Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Michael, yes we kept the tents and took them with us on a recent Scottish trip, no hotels 🤣 Wingman of the Road replaced the pole without question within a couple of days 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Paul, my son and I both like the simplicity of these tents in terms of you just roll it out, pop some poles in and hey presto, you've got yourself a tent with mattress and sleeping bag all ready inside ( just add pillow ), although on cooler nights I feel I would need an extra layer for warmth. I'm pleased that we bought the larger Toucans for the extra room. For our needs though these Toucans are great while touring and staying for just one night or two at a time at each location. We are certainly looking forward to using these again on our next trip 😁 ... Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Philip, that's what I tried to do but having thick winter gloves on meant my fingers were the size of cucumbers and couldn't turn the valve in time 🤣 ... Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Niklas, we didn't really notice any increase in performance I'm afraid, maybe a little but that might have been psychological 🤔 Black Widow only claim a 1 bhp increase in power but there definitely was an increase in fun and happiness while riding 🤣 ... Thanks for watching 👍
karma was looking after you my friend.. A little tap on the asda car park saves a maybe disastrous tank slap from a buggered Tyre.. keep safe my friend and more buddy biking vids with plenty of banter :)))
Hi David, until I read this comment, that never occurred to me, maybe you're right about karma 🤔 There's another four buddy biking vids in this trip, hope you get time to watch them 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
Is going with the bigger one a huge difference? Looked a bit massive on the back of the bike. I ride a street glide not sure how I feel about the tent resting/rubbing on the saddle bags while on the road
Hi Roberto, I haven't seen a Goose rolled up so can't compare but looking at the dimensions on Wingman's page there's only 6 cm in roll size and 2 cm in length. I have found though, the size differs every time you roll the tent up depending on how far you fold the tarp/ground sheet sides around the tent before you roll. If the roll is too large, it could push against your back. I too was shocked a little when I put the tent on my bike for the first time but after a few days I didn't really notice it. The problem I have, is that my pannier lids are on the top, so obviously when the tent's on my bike I can't access my panniers unlike my son who has side access. As for the rubbing, maybe some small pieces of foam between the tent and your bags 🤔 Once inside the Toucan, even though its only 20 cm larger in width / height and 10 cm in length, I'm pleased I bought the larger size as I think the Goose for me would feel a little cramped ... Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Mike, I had a similar comment a couple of days ago so I've just copied the same reply for you in case maybe you didn't read any comments that may have helped answer some of your queries 🤔 Command V ... " we decided to try our tents ahead of our longer trip simply to see how they sat on the bike, how comfortable it was on the bike, would the tent move around on the bike while on rougher ground, putting the tents up in a real world situation rather than the living room 🤣 etc, etc you understand and thought we'd hopefully demonstrate this in our video 🤔 Wingman show product videos on their own channel that might be of better use " ... Thanks for watching 👍
For a product video that is just shy of 16 minutes long I wish you had shortened the video instead of showing over 10 minutes of ride footage & only about 5 minutes of product video.
Hi Content of Character, we decided to try our tents ahead of our longer trip simply to see how they sat on the bike, how comfortable it was on the bike, would the tent move around on the bike while on rougher ground, putting the tents up in a real world situation rather than the living room 🤣 etc, etc you understand and thought we'd hopefully demonstrate this in our video 🤔 Wingman show product videos on their own channel that might be of better use ... Thanks for watching 👍
great video, really fantastic use of the drone, loved it, gave me some ideas. I have to admit the first time I put my goose up I thought the pole might snap, there is really not much give and I had to give it some beans to clip it in, it's a very tight design, I hope the guys hooked you up with a new pole.
Hi GazOutdoors, thanks for your kind feedback we really appreciate it 😊 Yes, Wingman replaced the pole instantly and was tested straight away ( in the living room 🤣 ) so we're ready to go again ... Our next trip starts in a few days time 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
