Hi! I like talking about nostalgic stuff, video games, Japanese media and more! ✨ My goal is for this to be a comforting, positive and nostalgic space for viewers :)
Dunkable biscorp is quite the clever name! That guy shoving his head in the bag is a mood! Imagine going around and following guests at a hotel! Seems a bit invasive😂 Two doors into a bathroom? Swanky! Guests going about their day and seeing painted windows on the wall sounds like a skit in the making! Those refeltions on the floor are pretty neat!
It really is cool seeing native languages for a games setting to really immerse yourself in the story and world! Still think tekken has the coolest display of languages where each character speaks there own language, which is just amazing! As for fake languages I remember Gravity rush has its own made up one that is heavily inspired by French! Loved the video!
Just watched Swing Girls on yt, with subtitles obviously, as it looked good from the clips in your video. Great film with many lol moments, really enjoyed it! Music was great too even though I'm not really into swing jazz!
Great cozy video to cap off the summer! I've recently been playing Boku 2 and have been having a nice nostalgic time with it. I would recommend the Yokai Watch games, as they also have a similar carefree Summer vibe, but with goofy monsters.
I bought this on impulse from GoG but never really got into it. The restaurant section seems identical to restaurant empire. Even the recipes are the same lol.
Aha. thank you for the lovely watch! I'd stay at this fine hotel with its love pools and salmon on tap. Got my Friday started with a smile. Really hope you make more of them! Lovely format and editing too.
I think it's a very case by case thing for me on whether or not keeping the game in another language can improve immersion. For example, I remember playing Assassin's Creed 2 with Italian audio and genuinely preferring it to the point that it felt weird hearing the English voices for a long time afterwards. Meanwhile, I just can't play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. without the cheesy English voice acting. The buggy English audio and awkward performances just fit so perfectly with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s jank without ruining the genuinely scary moments.
Thanks again for the credit, great vid! I especially like it when games create their own languages. Outside The Sims, I think the first one I've encountered that is in Gravity Rush, wherein they made use of jumbled up Japanese but with a French accent. Or at least it sounds like that to me. Probably a mix of both. It's like it sounds familiar but it doesn't at the same time, really cool stuff.
Of course, thank you for watching!! Ooh yeah I forgot about the language in Gravity Rush- I played it a looong time ago but I certainly remember it being really cool and standing out. I will have to keep it in mind if I make another video like this :)
Nice video, it's interesting seeing so many different languages in games. Got a suggestion if you do a follow up video, Beautiful Desolation a post apocalypse adventure game set in South Africa, it's mostly in English but has a bit of Afrikaans in it and tiny bit of Xhosa and Zulu.
Thank you so much! I've heard of Beautiful Desolation but I didn't know that it's set in South Africa! I didn't come across any Afrikaans in games when making this video but I'll make note of this and I hope that there's more out there! Thank you for sharing that with me :)
Lyoko is for code lyoko? Cuz im a fan Edit: Answered at the end of the vid so nevermid! I wanted to add, its true that the look of many games using prendered graphics adds a lot to the mood. Toriko on sega saturn is one i remember for example or Juggernaut for the ps1. Also i played Amerzone just 3 or 4 years ago and i remember it looking so gorgeus for a 15 year old game!
I cannot believe you have so few followers. I would subscribe to watch you talk about delightful British children's shows series by series because you have such a calm voice! We had a lot of these shows broadcast in Canada as well. Thank you for introducing me to the likes of Huxley Pig and The Herbs however. Hope to see more from you in the future!
Old CGI cutscenes in games always felt like a reward, because there were usually only a couple of them and they were short. Games can look amazing nowadays, to the point where gameplay and cutscenes look the same. That combined with how it feels like a lot of the triple A games have too many cutscenes just makes it way less rewarding and skippable
i understand how you feel about pre rendered cutscenes and the sense of accomplishment! seeing them pop up motivates me to keep playing to see them all
i loved fifi and the flowertots, koala brothers and postman pat :] and i completely forgot about hilltop hospital!! so happy to see your success with this video!
You did give a small mention to COD: Infinite Warfare zombies in spacland, but it’s one of my favorite amusement parks in an fps. Rides and attractions play into the actual gameplay. Bumper cars can knock down you and zombies. The roller coaster is infested with zombies dressed as alien mascots. Tickets can be earned from an arcade to purchase equipment and prizes. All the while David Hasselhoff is the DJ
I'm Canadian and I grew up with a lot of British and Irish shows. And I didn't even notice it. I remember being obsessed with Thomas, In the Night Garden, and Angelina Ballerina
I'm American, but I have always adored British cartoons. I was so obsessed with Bob The Builder as a kid that every time I went to Chuck E Cheese, I HAD to ride the Scoop-themed ride that played the BTB theme song. I also had a lot of Thomas stuff. Fireman Sam and Postman Pat were on Sprout and Qubo respectively, but I also liked watching them. I have recently discovered Engie Benjy, and I have become completely obsessed with the show! Benjy himself has such a cool design and I love how he's basically a machine doctor [kinda accurate to how mechanics are]. There's a lot of fun wit and even some sarcastic moments in the show, courtesy of Cosgrove Hall, and I don't know why there wasn't even an effort to bring Engie Benjy to America. Then again, they would probably ruin it, especially if Mattel got their hands on the franchise. I'm still mad over the Bob The Builder, Fireman Sam, and Thomas [All Engines Go] reboots, they are dumbed down and not as fun as the original shows.
I recall a good number of these, some I didn't know until later, or only saw the VHS trailers for. My absolute favourite, and I do believe shaped my life the most was Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
Ah yes, I remember loving the trailers on VHS tapes :') And I watched Thomas the Tank Engine a bit, but not much! Although I've noticed that it's left an impact on a lot of people!
The one I remember the most but can't find anywhere is a show that featured a pink telephone (or fridge?) that was as big as the human characters. They used to always hang around in the same room and honestly, it was fairly similar to dhmis. When I first watched dhmis I thought it was parodying that exact show
I feel like a lot of these shows were very good at telling children important lessons and I guess “fables”. Me and my brother grew up watching a lot of VHS tapes of these shows and I feel like we have a good moral compass because of the stories we learnt in the shows. It’s such a shame that children’s tv is just CGI and totally disposable content now. The whole art form of puppetry and 2d animation is almost completely lost now in kids tv, replaced with easy to digest mindless content not dissimilar to TikTok videos. It was nice having a walk down memory lane and I’m really glad I got recommended this video!
Good to see so many of these, there are so many I watched regularly. Woahhh I can't remember a Funny Bones episode with ghosts, the lore of that show is more expansive than I thought, and I already thought it was pretty expansive. The head from art attack is the most scared I've been of anything- I literally just mentioned the exact same point in an Inside No. 9 analysis that I only uploaded about 2 days ago- wonder if the algoritihim brought me here because of that coincidence. I vividly remember Titch and the theme song with his lil' jigsaw trike. The Theme tune of the riddlers is....susprisingly dark and dramatic for a show about some puppets cheerfully loitering in a garden. GIVE YOURSELF A SHINY. EL NOMBRE can't be long before he gets a darker edgier reboot, surely. Same with yo ho ahoy. Hotch Potch House is one I like a lot that's so rarely discussed now. P.s my brother looked uncannily like a boobah as a baby, but he was born prior to the series- it's a shame he didn't copyright the look.
Baroque for the sega saturn and ps1 has a very interesting artstyle. the FMV cutscenes are also pretty good. My favorite dreamcast game is one called "Despiria" its a Myst style JRPG where all the graphics are prerendered and it has a dark and merky dystopian feel to it was some gross looking monster designs. It's one of the most Unique looking games ive ever seen
I've heard of "Despiria" but I've never played it! I love the combination of dystopia and prerendered graphics - from screenshots alone it does look really really cool. Thank you for sharing :D
I really enjoyed this, we grew up around the same time and watched similar shows. Love your narration style and the way you tell your story and nostalgic memories. Great work!
It's great to hear that we watched similar shows, and thank you so much for nice words! I actually watched a few of your videos when making this video :) I really enjoy your interviews/podcast!!
I’m an American here, and I enjoyed watching a lot of these shows. Heck, some of them goes as far back to when I used to watch them on PBS Kids Sprout or RU-vid as a kid, and to this day, I still enjoyed them. Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Noddy, Kipper, Rubbadubbers, Little Robots, Charlie Chalk, Sooty, Danger Mouse, Angelina Ballerina, The Wombles, Bill & Ben, etc. Of course, it’s not like I’m gonna be gatekept by anyone from watching these shows just because some of them never aired on US TV.
When I moved to Canada with my parents, I have seen television channels such as TVO Kids, Kids' CBC and Treehouse. The programmes that you have showed and mentioned were airing in those channels that I have mentioned. I, too, miss days when I watch television ever since I was young. If I can find the time to do it, I would gladly do it in a heartbeat.
I didn't know that a lot of these shows aired in Canada - that's cool to hear :) Thank you for sharing! I think a lot of people miss the television they watched when they were younger, including me!
