My son was one of the ones who got transported to the local trauma center. He absolutely knows the fundamentals as a 17-20 expert rider and in a podium position in the high school series. Sometimes things happen in this sport no matter how much training and preparing you have. Thanks for covering the high school series. These kids work hard to represent their schools. It's nice to see them recognized!
I hope he’s doing well! And I agree, but there are some things that can definitely be improved upon fundamentally for all riders at tracks like this one, especially with how many accidents occurred there at the same spots. But hoping for a fast recovery!
What part of Maryland are you from. I’m a 40 year old Marylander that’s thinking of getting back into BMX. Haven’t raced since the late 90s lol. Trying to find a good bike for me. Do you have any recommendations on a decent affordable bike that will get me back in the game without breaking the bank. I also have my old race bike that’s a 95 mongoose solution pro but I think it might be a Little to small for me.
I’m from West Virginia but moved to Southern Maryland for a job! You should get back into it! I would look at a starter bike, 24” probably, but unfortunately I am a terrible reference as I am just getting back into BMX after 10+ years myself, the bikes have changed so much! If you’re around SOMD BMX I can show you a few ideas of what to look for in a bike!
@@Zaniakk_ I’m actually 20 mins north of Baltimore up 95. I was just looking at the mongoose title elite 24” cruiser for a starter bike. Maybe one day soon we will see each other at a race.
I raced there from 1979 to 1981 and again in 1984. The bike shop had a different name back them. The track was all dirt and had more shade. Some of those big trees are now stumps. There was also very little built up around it so no storage units next to the starting hill, no neighborhood behind the track, and so on. Every December they have a race called The Iron Man Classic. Timmy Judge came to that in 1979 and tripled. I finished 2nd in Class and Open. Judge then became World Champion at the JAG World Championships at Indianapolis IN a couple weeks later. I also raced there. He was sponsored by Thruster when he raced at Howell Dec 1979 but when he showed up at the World Championship, he wasn't sponsored. He was wearing a Shimano Jersey which people did back then to indicate they're not sponsored. He was riding a GT, which I think got him sponsored by GT. At the time, GT was not well known. I think he then went to Mongoose and then had a long stint on Hutch. I friended him on Facebook and he's still getting rad.
That’s awesome! I heard a little about the Iron Man Classic from a couple of the riders up there, seems like an awesome community, thanks for sharing dude!🤙🏻
El Guapo!! He had a bad fall in PA at Revolution BMX. With very little gate practice and track time, you still made the main!! SOMD has a Gold Cup on Aug 10th. Hope to see you there.
Thank you for making the trip to our Gold Cup(i work at the track)! It was one of the biggest races we've had in a while moto wise and we worked hard to get the track in tip top shape. Hope you had a good experience and come back again soon!
marcus’ 2-5 pedals are so dialed- been working on catching up with him for a season and a half now haha i just popped it a lil too low, & a little too early in turn one- i’ll be ready for aug 11 in cumberland- probably our best chance at one of us catching marcus haha 🤘🏻
another great race with ya- although i wish we all had our own classes to race, always a pleasure ripping laps with ya. so for a state plate you need to race three of the four state qualifiers to qualify for a place to compete in the championship, in the maryland state series. so only one of the two remaining ones is necessary, but they count your best finishes for points- so if you can improve one of those 2nds to first, that might make it worth it to you. your points for the best three qualifier finishes and the points from how you finish at the championship determine how you finish in the state series. hope this helps
Great video!! Thank you for highlighting the MD Highschool BMX program. These kids have worked so hard! They will be at all of the MD State qualifiers!
