Hi Stef! Thanks for your content. I would like to try claim remote working expenses on my apartment which I am renting. Is there any chance you could make a video on how you get this right?
Thank you Stef Dev! This was very helpful. I have started my channel where I make Mathematics videos for Grade 11 and 12 students. I know I won't become rich and famous, but at least I am helping and making a difference in the lives of South African students.😇
My shein clothes don't shrink. all the other retailers including cotton on that charges 400 rand a shirt at this point, does. Local retailers buy shit anyway and sell it at 300% markups and guess what? it comes from china and there's a good chance the rights violations also are applicable from some of these suppliers anyway. I don't think Either of these companies give less of a shit about the tax cause they know how cheap cost is for the product and will continue their operations. I will continue buying it cause I feel like the quality is just far superior for the pricing compared to what is available in the malls apart from big brand names around South Africa. Alot of people are very fucking lost in terms of where all our clothes come from. It all mostly comes from Asia at dirt cheap bulk prices, logos get slapped on and prints made and boom a shirt with a 15 rand cost and a 26 rand print is sold for R350. Only a fool suffers a fool.
This is a little bit of a naive take on a complex issue. Firstly tax avoidance is perfectly legal, and arguably in the SA context a moral imperative. SA corporates have entire tax departments dedicated to reducing their tax bill - the recent case between Coronation and SARS leaps to mind. Given the levels of household debt in this country it's hardly surprising that people leap at good value. It ultimately boils down to economic stagnation for 15 years which has eroded the purchasing powe of the middle class.
Most shops sell stuff imported from China, and then add a ridiculous markup onto it. Shein and Temu just lets you skip the middle man. My girlfriend wears absolutely stunning outfits on the daily that look expensive AF, have better quality than a lot of local stuff, while costing less than half of the price
People will always vote with their wallets. BUT if they were cheap but took months and were unreliable people would buy local. The point is theyre sometimes up to a quarter of the price for clothes for example, and they can ship it to you in 2 weeks?? They're cheaper and more convenient. So the point is their service and products a better value for money...
This is pure disgusting BS . Its either they paid you or you own a shop that you ordered from Shein all along just like takealot and double the price here in SA. Whats wrong if Shein its bigger than Nike or Reebok? . Ordinary people been ordering on Shein for years, it just got famous here as people are adapting to the internet and financial burden imposed by the same corporations you are pushing propaganda for. Like Robert Mugabe said: Please we are not gays.
This is utter bulsh#@!. If our businesses were competitive this would not be a problem. As to the "toxic" materials used, we did a study and ALL the manufacturers use the same basic raw ingredients. Yes even the big brand names (who all manufacture in the Asiatics). The same factories that produce your niche brands that charge you double. But where is this narritive coming from? If you keep your eye on international politics you will note that the West and Europe is in a major tiff with China. China is a huge threat to the big industries in the west. Mainly because most if not all has outsourced their manufacturing capabilities to China. Now China wants to supply direct and cut out the middleman, hence the huge drop in pricing. So its no "DUMPING" goods on our economies and the only complainers are the brand owners funding this insane narrative of "beware of Chinese goods". Like all good things - our access to affordable goods are in danger of being blocked by the big corporate machine. Look I am all for nice brands, but is the price really justified? I think not.
Stef, I hear what you are saying, but this issues boils back to the Gov. With the insane taxes on everything, local business have to charge R1000+ ( for a hoody, as an example). So if I have to choose between buying something for R1000 or R300 (even if the quality is not as great) I would rather buy 2 of the R300 option, and have change The issue is at Gov's door step, not the big scary overseas companies. (just my opinion)
People are sick of being taken for a ride. Our local businesses has homegrown advantage but they would rather rip off a customer base than to build a loyal lasting base to profit of. Everyone chasing instant success and no longer want to put in the work to deliver good affordable quality products. So we get to choose where we spend our money. I mean we have worked for it and paid taxes while doing so.
I see what your saying but I have rich friends who have enough money to buy at woolworths, ect, but still buy from shein. But I understand that people who are less fortunate can benefit from buying from Shein.
Your storytelling reminds me of MagnatesMedia documentaries. I love how you present your findings. Hopefully In the future, we can collaborate to deliver South African grown documentaries
This is not sympathy on the side of the consumer. Rather on the side of a disconnected business sentiment with the reality of a consumer base it does not understand.
Hmmm Would you therefore argue that the products containing toxic chemicals should just be brought in with no interjection by the SA government. I feel like it's the government's job to keep their people safe from such products, but also create a fair playing ground for local companies to also be able to compete.
I don't buy from these platforms, they are flooding our market with cheap disposable garbage made using child and slave labour, nobody can compete with China, as we have to pay workers a fair and living wage. Most of the stuff you buy on there can only be used once then it will break any way
I guess in a certain sense they've only been using legal loopholes. Now that the government is clamping down on that loophole, if they continue to do it, then it's definitely stealing
I think when it comes to 20% and 45% Tax Fee, the optimal percent I would go for as well is the minimum ,in this case 20% . Since I have a choice to choose the lowest 😂. I think they are not cheating, its just business. if its the loophole then I guess SARS should always stick to 45% or the highest percentage without considering choices then it will be fair. The retailers in South Africa are also expensive, there is also an issue with verifying our retailers as well, who verifies if our retailers are not selling non-toxic stuff? I guess is another thing to compare and have a measure or test to compare if Temu or Shein vs our retailers are not the same, I am sure we will find more similarities difference may only be prices which one will always go with the lowest
Nah They stole fokol. Our retail stores sells dresses that when you are fat you look like a fat pig wrapped in a blanket. Clothes are bad and cost a fortune.I dnt care how they impose more tax. We will buy from oversee
For the people that support Shein and Temu, dont complain about not having job creation in SA, i know a few people that started local manufacturing factories in SA, unfortunately they dont get the support needed by the public to grow their businesses and create job opportunities for more people. Yes businesses do tend to import alot of products from china but they do buy better quality for their stores. I would rather support a local business regardless if their products are imported, so that we can grow our country and still provide jobs instead of people lossing their incomes as businesses are closing their doors rapidly in SA.
@BruceJ999 is this comment meant for me? If yes, regardless of us paying 'taxes' businesses don't have the government telling them how to buy and what to sell in your business, that is completely up to you as an individual. (Yes there are taxes involved) again this doesn't help with job creation when south Africans aren't supporting the local businesses, and when people are supporting 'businesses' it's people that are not even citizens of our country, their money is taken out of the country not helping the economy. South african people can choose where they spend their money, they at the end of the day have the power - you vote with your wallet. NOT THE GOVERNMENT. I want everyone to succeed and have a steady income and be able to move away from the poverty line. If you feel that I have missed the mark on something, please let me know. As I'm a sponge for knowledge and want to learn from other people.
The ones which have not inveted in local production but imported and as a result of their model the pricing was mismatched with the reality of their core market. Dependency is a bad thing and these are the results.
I guess it depends. I would argue the quality you get at retailers are way better than the quality you'd get at sites like these. Or well.. I won't really argue.. I know it is😄 I'd rather pay a slightly higher price for better quality than very cheap for bad quality.
Retailers have to pay to rent a shop and pay wages for workers while making sure that the items they sell comply with regulations, cheap Chinese goods are made with slave and child labour, so how can our local retailers compete?
@rhinoTube I guess then the HR Profesionals should question the c suit criteria given to them. Our retailers should pursue other channels to market which will decrease overhead and positively impact the bottom line.
@@Alpha-pq4cv Well if they fire 90% of their workforce and resell low quality garbage from China that will be easy to do, but at the end of the day they have to act ethically witch the Chinese are not doing at the moment
@@StefDevi think that's fair. you pay more you get better quality, you pay less you get less quality. Like if you pay 0.99$ for a screwdriver and it sucks, is it temu's fault or did you just get what you paid for.
Takealot sells the exact same goods as Temu except at 10X more profit and at buying it at half the cost because they buy from bulk from China. If you claim Temu sellls toxic items then Takealot sells toxic items as Takealot sellers all get the items from China. Takealot always makes losses even before Temu became popular. If they make a loss they do not have to pay tax as they make no profit. South Africa does not produce goods ourselves. Local SA businesses are all middlemen who import goods from China, just do not want competition Everyone buying from Temu pay customs, so much so that Temu's Buffalo partner has the highest tax compliance rate and as a result get special express treatment at the airport.
Thanks for your comment. Makes sense. Although I can agree with you on the premise of Takealot selling items from China, I'd argue that we do have businesses all around the country producing local items, so that's not accurate. The focus of this video is just that international companies should be liable to the same policies and laws that our local producers are, otherwise our SA businesses really do not stand any chance to compete. As a South African, I'd rather support local businesses providing quality at a reasonable price, than cheap low quality international companies that's leading to a lot of SA businesses struggling.
@@StefDev Textile industry has been rather dead for a long time in South Africa. Same Temu goods sold here middlemen buy from China. Name all the local manufacturers impacted by Temu? I bet you can't. It is local middlemen complaining under the guise they are manufacturers
Hmm, I know a ton of local clothing manufacturers and retailers that have been affected. Even though some of them are also importing from china, retailers offer the option of items being filtered and quality controlled. Which deserves a markup price. As we've seen now, direct from China with no middleman is a health and safety concern. But with that, I'll also say, if they actually pay the appropriate taxes and make their products safe for usage, it's all good. The unfair advantage should just be removed so SA companies can compete fairly. The competition has had various advantages and it's not doing South Africa's economy any good.
Where to begin.. Some that are not known as well: - ITG Clothing - Tshepo Some more popular ones: - Freedom of Movement - Old School Retailers: - Mr Price - Markhams - Refinery - Woolworths Like mentioned even if they are importing from China, makes no difference to the points I've mentioned👍
Just got into faceless yt channel, more football based, i haven't reach monitization but my audience is uk, usa and india mostly am i most likely to get a higher cpm or even get monitezed at all considering i use clips and use ai voice?
That's a really good question. Tbh I'm not that experienced in faceless channels. I do however know that faceless channels are way more likely to be hit with copyright strikes. There is however something called "fair usage". Read up on how RU-vid treats that and make sure you are noy just copying clips, but also putting your own spin on it. You stand a better chance at not getting hit with copyright then, but be sure to read RU-vid's T&Cs on this.
Thanks for the informative vid!💪 Could you maybe in the future make a video about dividend stocks or how these type of stocks works on Easy Equities? Keep up the content!🙌
I guess it depends on what the exchange rate is at the time it pays out. RU-vid pays out one time per month. Hence the amount would depend on what the exchange rate is on that payout day.
👍 In my case, i also added, No overtime , No public holidays , thus no increase to income or moving into another tax bracket. On average R3500 less in monthly tax🤗
The longest video I've ever made... I really tried to provide as much value as possible. If you want to know how to be the millionaire at 30 and not the broke bankrupt guy at 60, let me know what you think and what you would like to see next :)
😂People don't seem to realize that the money these gurus make is from the course and not the contents of their course aka they aren't participating what they are preaching hence why it's always a scam, no matter how you flip it, *it's a scam*
